Colorado's Empower Field at Mile High to take precautions for heat during The Weeknd concert

CBS News20-06-2025
This Saturday, thousands of people are expected to attend The Weeknd concert at Empower Field at Mile High, and venue organizers are working to make sure the heat doesn't ruin the fun.
The Weeknd is a popular Canadian singer and songwriter famous for hits such as "Blinding Lights," "Starboy" and "Die For You." His stop in Denver is part of the "After Hours Til Dawn Tour" with Playboi Carti. Officials expect there to be a large crowd and heavy traffic during the concert and are encouraging guests to arrive early. Lots will open at 3 p.m.

The Denver metro area will be under a heat advisory Saturday, with temperatures possibly climbing into the triple digits. The heat advisory will go into effect at 11 a.m. and remain in place until 6 p.m.
The stadium management company said there will be several precautions in place, including additional medical staff to help concert goers with heat related issues. Some areas around the stadium will be used as expanded medical treatment areas, and over 30 free water refilling stations will be positioned throughout the stadium. Organizers said there will also be water refilling stations outside the east and west areas of the stadiums for guests waiting to enter.
Precautions will also be in place to protect staff from the heat, with additional break areas with hydration stations.

Pittsburgh could see isolated thunderstorms before a dry and comfortable 4th of July

Thursday morning begins on a seasonably mild note across all of Western Pennsylvania and Northern West Virginia. Skies are mostly clear to partly cloudy, with more clouds and even a few isolated showers around our I-80 counties. WEATHER LINKS: Current Conditions | School Closings & Delays | Submit Your Weather Photos These clouds and showers are part of a weak but fast-moving upper-level disturbance and cold front that will move across our region later today. High temperatures and rain chances on Thursday, July 3 KDKA Weather Center The strongest lift and jet stream winds with this system will likely pass northeast of Pittsburgh into Central Pennsylvania, but this will still be close enough to give us a chance for some isolated afternoon and evening thunderstorms. Sufficient instability and some wind shear will support a risk of hail and strong downburst winds with one or two cells that are really able to pulse up. Timing for potential severe weather KDKA Weather Center Storm coverage will diminish as the front passes by this evening, and with a loss of daytime heating. Low temperatures on Thursday, July 3, 2025 KDKA Weather Center Overnight into Friday, skies will clear out and temperatures will be seasonable for the Fourth. No weather issues are expected for those who are doing outdoor activities or watching fireworks. High temperatures on the Fourth of July KDKA Weather Center By Saturday, as high pressure moves east and winds shift to the southwest, we expect a warmer and more humid air mass to move in. Highs on Saturday and Sunday will be in the upper 80s to near 90, with the most likely days to see 90+ highs on Sunday and Monday as well. The heat dome that builds in this weekend will not be as strong or long-lived compared to the one last week, so this stretch of 90s will be brief and eventually capped off with a chance of storms late Monday afternoon into Tuesday. As always, any summer storms will be capable of producing downburst winds and small hail. Our pattern will remain slightly unsettled with daily low storm chances into the middle of next week. 7-day forecast: July 3, 2025 KDKA Weather Center Stay up to date with the KDKA Mobile App – which you can download here!
