‘Urban Naxals' with overseas funding are stalling development projects in Maharashtra, says Devendra Fadnavis
'While gun-wielding Naxalites are surrendering, reducing Naxalism, urban Naxalism is increasing. So, we need to stay alert about 'urban Naxals' spreading misinformation,' the senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader said, adding that the investigation by the Gadchiroli police investigation had shown that people from other States, including Karnataka, were funding these campaigns.
The Guardian Minister of Gadchiroli district, Mr. Fadnavis also highlighted that social media campaigns claiming killings of tribals and land seizures started right after the foundation of a steel plant had been laid. ''Urban Naxalism' is spreading, and they are using misinformation to derail development projects,' Mr. Fadnavis said, adding he had been shocked to come across the news, when nothing had happened. He asked the Range's Inspector General Sandeep Patil to probe the details.
Mr. Fadnavis revealed that, upon investigation, the four persons involved were from Kolkata and Bengaluru, working on foreign funding to 'instigate people against the Constitution'.
While speaking at the 'ground breaking' ceremony of several projects of Lloyds Metals and Energy Limited at Konsari in Gadchiroli district, Mr. Fadnavis, who is also the State's Home Minister, appealed to Naxalites to enter the mainstream, leaving behind their old life.
'We are on our way to fulfil our dream of making Gadchiroli the steel hub of India. In 2015-2016, the mining started amid the challenges posed by Naxalites, villagers, and safety issues. However, we are on a path to build a steel ecosystem with jobs for the locals,' Mr. Fadnavis said, ealling Gadchiroli the greenest district of Maharashtra.

Will not interfere in Madras High Court order against DMK membership drive, says Supreme Court
The Supreme Court on Monday declined to intervene against an interim order of the Madras High Court restraining the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu from sending OTP verification messages to mobile phone users during its ongoing Oraniyil Tamil Nadu membership drive. 'The court has to protect the citizens. Go back to the High Court. We are not inclined to interfere in the matter. Dismissed,' a Bench, headed by Justice P.S. Narasimha, said. The apex court did not budge even as senior advocate P. Wilson, appearing for the DMK, submitted that the party was not collecting Aadhaar details. On July 21, a Division Bench of Justices S.M. Subramaniam and A.D. Maria Clete of the Madras High Court had issued an interim injunction to the limited extent (of OTP messages) till the issue of right to privacy and data protection were examined in detail. The High Court reasoned that the fundamental rights of the people were at stake. The High Court said that during the door-to-door membership drive, personal information, including mobile phone numbers, were obtained and OTP verification messages were sent to these. 'Data protection of the individuals is an essential element of Article 21 of the Constitution. In the absence of accountability and transparency in the data collected from individuals across the State, it is an issue which needs elaborate analysis,' the Bench had observed.

Amarnath Yatra suspended amid high-level political huddles in Delhi
Amarnath Yatra 2025 was officially suspended late on Monday, with the Jammu district administration relieving all officers and officials deployed at key Facilitation Centres in the city. The move comes amid heightened political activity in New Delhi and specualtion around the possible restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. An order issued by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, directed immediate withdrawal of staff from the Base Camp at Yatri Niwas (Bhagwati Nagar), Ram Mandir (Purani Mandi), and Geeta Bhawan (Parade). Officers have been instructed to return to their original postings for regular duty. The suspension follows the annual yatra's high footfall this year and coincides with a surge in political meetings in the national capital. President Droupadi Murmu recently held back-to-back meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, sparking speculation about a significant political development in the Union Territory. Shah has also met with senior leaders from Jammu and Kashmir, including the BJP chief of the erstwhile state. Significantly, this (August 5) is the sixth anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370. In 2019, J&K was stripped of its statehood. The timing of the yatra's formal suspension has only added fuel to speculation that a major announcement on J&K's political future could be imminent.
