Currently, the state's industrial tariff stands at ₹8.32 per unit. "After the new tariff is implemented, Maharashtra will have the lowest industrial electricity cost in the country," the CM said, comparing the rates with Tamil Nadu (₹9.04), Gujarat (₹8.98), and Karnataka (₹7.75). He assured tariffs will remain stable in coming years and will not escalate due to the tariff true-up process.
Responding to a query from Nagpur-based MLC Abhijit Wanjarri, and subsequent questions from Shashikant Shinde, Satej Patil, and Leader of Opposition Ambadas Danve, Fadnavis said the state has shifted to a Merit Order Dispatch system for power procurement.
"This allows us to buy electricity from private players at lower rates. With long-term (25-year) contracts for solar, wind, and battery storage, we significantly reduced power purchase costs," he said.
Fadnavis acknowledged that earlier tariff petitions placed a heavier burden on residential consumers to subsidise lower industrial and commercial rates. "That has now changed. The revised structure cuts tariffs across consumer categories," he noted.
Around 70% residential users who consume under 100 units will see a 26% reduction in bills. Those exceeding 100 units will also benefit from price cuts.
In the agriculture sector, the CM announced key changes to the solar pump distribution scheme, including a new booster pump initiative. "Farmers can now get a single-pole connection for ₹15,000, and 10 HP solar pumps will be made available as per demand," he said. Complaints on pump installation are being resolved through a unified solar portal.

Fadnavis also revealed that smart meters would be introduced across farmlands to track electricity usage more accurately. "This will help measure consumption precisely and support future planning in agriculture power policy," he added. Also, the state has drafted a proposal for solarising lift irrigation schemes and is exploring conventional power options in 'dark zones' —areas with low electrification levels.

Day after Uddhav-CM meet, Eknath Shinde accuses Sena UBT chief of ‘backstabbing' Fadnavis in 2019
After two consecutive days of bonhomie between Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, Deputy CM Eknath Shinde on Friday accused Uddhav of 'backstabbing' Fadnavis and 'trying to get him arrested'. 'We are the witness to how Devendraji was abused. The people had voted (in 2019) to Shiv Sena and BJP. But you backstabbed Devendra ji. I know how many phones did Devendra ji do after the results, but it was never answered. Everyone has to pay for their deeds here itself,' said Shinde. He was speaking at the legislative council while replying to the discussion on last week's motion moved by the Opposition. Shinde's remarks came at a time when Fadnavis and Uddhav were seen exchanging cordial greetings to each other. On Wednesday. Fadnavis offered former ally Uddhav to join the Mahayuti while on Thursday both the leaders spent around 20-minutes chatting behind closed doors without the presence of any other leader. Shinde went on to claim that while Fadnavis gave away the Mumbai mayor post to Shiv Sena in 2017, Uddhav paid him back with betrayal. 'Devendra ji was challenged (by Uddhav) by saying either it will be you or me. It was then that I decided to act.. .even Devendraji would be smiling now seeing the present developments,' he added, referring to the recent meetings between the two. The deputy CM claimed that Uddhav hated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and therefore did not attend the programme where Modi was conferred with first Lata Mangeshkar award. 'I don't mess with people, but I do not leave those who mess with me,' he said. Uddhav had termed the MNS as a party which was over during one of the poll campaigns. Referring to this, Shinde took a dig on the possible alliance between Shiv Sena (UBT) and Raj Thackeray led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) saying that 'some are desperate to go with those whom they once called as finished'.
