BJP handed JP Centre to LDA, they build fish markets not institutions, says Akhilesh Yadav

India Gazette5 hours ago
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 5 (ANI): Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav strongly criticised the decision to hand over the Jayaprakash Narayan International Centre (JPNIC) to the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA), calling it an insult to the legacy of the socialist icon Jayaprakash Narayan.
Akhilesh expressed deep disappointment over the decision and recalled his connection to the centre. 'We and Chaudhary sahab are particularly sad because we were founder members of JPNIC Society,' he said.
Akhilesh also shared a memory of visiting the centre when it was lying unused. 'It was kept closed for so many years, once I went for an interview, and the guard was suspended. I had kept a water bottle in my pocket, so BJP told me that we have kept the bottle,' he remarked, taking a jibe at the ruling party.
'When Netaji laid the foundation stone of JPNIC, many socialist leaders were present. JPNIC was built so that this generation could see the struggle for democracy. People had to see the change that came with the slogan of total revolution,' Akhilesh further added.
Furthermore, criticising the transfer of the building to the LDA, he said, 'This building was given to LDA, what work does LDA have, LDA does not build buildings but fish markets.'
Reiterating his party's commitment to protecting the institution, Akhilesh added, 'And I say once again from the stage that if they have to be sold, we socialist people will buy JPNIC.'
In a sharp political attack, Akhilesh questioned the BJP's credibility in Bihar, where Jayaprakash Narayan's legacy holds significant political weight. 'With what face will those who want to destroy JPNIC ask for votes in Bihar. This JPNIC was dedicated to JP,' he said.
Meanwhile, Yadav, who inaugurated the new party office in Azamgarh on Thursday took a dig at the BJP, saying that whenever elections are held in Bihar, there are some parties who attempt to distract the public by speaking against reservation, the Constitution, socialism, and secularism.
In a public address after the inauguration of the new office, Yadav said, 'Whenever there are elections in Bihar, they start speaking against reservation, the Constitution, socialism, and secularism. The truth is, they are afraid to speak directly against the reservation because they fear losing votes. So instead, they attack socialism and secularism indirectly.'
Yadav alleged that the BJP had abandoned its original principles, saying that the party that had once officially resolved to follow a socialist and secular path, but has now forgotten that commitment. (ANI)

Patna, Siwan killings put Nitish govt on back foot, give ammo to Oppn on poll eve

Political temperature in poll-bound Bihar soared following the murder of Gopal Khemka, a prominent businessman and owner of Magadh Hospital, who was gunned down late Friday night by bike-borne assailants near his house in the Gandhi Maidan area in Patna. Barely a few hours before Khemka's killing, in a separate incident, three people were killed and two others injured in a violent clash between two groups in Siwan. These killings gave ammunition to the RJD-led Opposition Mahagathbandhan (grand alliance) which targeted the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government, alleging that there has been 'a surge in lawlessness across Bihar under the Nitish government'. Bihar is headed to the Assembly polls in October-November this year, which gave urgency to the Opposition's attack while putting the NDA dispensation on the defensive. Leader of the Opposition (LoP) and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav questioned how could such a high-profile murder occur near a police station in the state capital. 'A prominent businessman in Patna has been shot dead just a few steps away from the police station! Every month, hundreds of traders are being killed in Bihar, but we still can't call it 'jungle raj'? Because this is what the scriptures call media management, perception management, and image management,' Tejashwi alleged in a social media post. CM Nitish held an urgent meeting with the Director General of Police and other senior officials to take stock of the state's law and order situation, following which he tweeted, 'Law and order is the government's top priority. Whoever commits a crime, regardless of who they are, will not be spared under any circumstances. I have instructed that investigations into criminal incidents be expedited and that swift action be taken against the guilty. The police and administration have been directed to work with full alertness and strictness to maintain law and order.' Khemka's killing came about seven years after his son Gunjan Khemka was also shot dead in Hajipur. Gunjan was said to be a BJP worker. RJD spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari alleged that the Bihar-based businessman's killing in one of Patna's most upscale neighbourhoods indicated that law and order situation has collapsed in the state and that the Nitish government has lost its 'moral authority' to remain in power, claiming that 'criminals were emboldened while the police appeared helpless'. Independent MP from Purnea, Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, who is associated with the Congress, said in an X post: 'No one is safe… Criminals are being protected by the current NDA government in the state. Nitish ji, please spare Bihar.' BJP spokesperson Manoj Sharma, however, said, 'The police are actively working on this case. Whoever is responsible won't go unpunished.' Following the Siwan killings, Tejashwi had alleged in an X post: 'Massacre in Bihar! Six people shot in Siwan! Three died on the spot! Under the leadership of an unconscious Chief Minister, law and order have collapsed!'

'Come, let us unite': MK Stalin hails Thackeray brothers' anti-Hindi powerplay; vows to 'teach BJP a lesson'

NEW DELHI: Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin on Saturday welcomed the thaw in ties between Thackeray brothers against the "imposition of Hindi" in Maharashtra " by the Bharatiya Janata Party. A critique of the three-language policy under NEP himself, Stalin slammed the Centre for "withholding Rs 2, 152 crore in funds under Samgara Shiksa Abhiyan" and asked what languages are being taught as a third language in Hindi belt schools. "Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the people of Tamil Nadu, who have been waging a generational battle for linguistic rights to defeat Hindi imposition, have now transcended state boundaries, stirring a storm of protest in Maharashtra. BJP , which acts unlawfully and anarchically by declaring that funds will only be allocated if Hindi is taught as a third language in Tamil Nadu's schools, has been forced to retreat for the second time in Maharashtra, where it governs, out of fear of the people's uprising. The enthusiasm and oratory of the victory rally held in Mumbai today, led by brother Uddhav Thackeray, against Hindi imposition, is truly exhilarating," Stalin wrote on X. — mkstalin (@mkstalin) "I am well aware that the Union government, which prioritises the promotion of Hindi and Sanskrit full-time, has no answers to the questions raised by Mr. Raj Thackeray: 'What is the third language taught in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan?' and 'Hindi-speaking states are lagging behind—why impose Hindi on the people of progressive non-Hindi-speaking states?' Will the Union government change its vindictive stance of withholding ₹2,152 crore in funds under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan for Tamil Nadu unless it accepts the new education policy that imposes Hindi and Sanskrit under the guise of a three-language policy? Will it immediately release the funds legally due for the education of Tamil Nadu's schoolchildren?" he added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Grupo Energía Bogotá CFD: Calcula cuánto podrías ganar invirtiendo solo $100 Actualidad Empieza ahora Undo Tamil Nadu chief minister also vowed to teach BJP and its allies "a lesson they will never forget!" "Come, let us unite! Tamil Nadu will fight! Tamil Nadu will win!" Stalin said. This comes after Shiv Sena (UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chiefs came together at the "Awaz Marathicha" rally to celebrate the rollback on what they called the government's bid to "impose" Hindi over Maharashtra. The Fadnavis government had issued a Government Resolution (GR) on April 16, making Hindi a compulsory third language for students in Classes 1 to 5 studying in English and Marathi medium schools. Since the announcement, both parties had opposed its implementation. Sena (UBT) and MNS called the policy an indirect imposition of Hindi. Uddhav said that the decision was similar to the Emergency, while Raj urged schools not to follow the government order, calling the imposition of Hindi an "anti-Maharashtra activity." The fierce opposition eventually compelled the government to retreat from its decision on June 29. The government also announced the formation of a committee under educationist Dr. Narendra Jadhav to suggest the way forward and oversee the implementation of the language policy. The panel has been given three months to study the issue and prepare a report.

Congress seeks CBI probe into infrastructure projects executed under AINRC-BJP government

The Congress has demanded a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into major projects undertaken by the All India N R Congress - Bharatiya Janata Party government in Puducherry. Talking to reporters after inspecting the reconstructed Rajiv Gandhi Bus Terminus along with Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) and Pradesh Congress Committee chief V. Vaithilingam, former Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy said the bus stand has been opened without providing any facility for the passengers. While the shops inside the commercial complex have not been opened yet, there have been complaints from the commuters about lack of other amenities as well inside the bus terminus, he said. 'We have been complaining about the huge expenditure involved in the construction of the bus terminus. There are also complaints about other infrastructure projects implemented by the present government. An inquiry by the CBI only will bring out the truth,' he said. Mr. Vaithilingam said the Congress would approach the investigating agency demanding a probe into various infrastructure projects undertaken by the AINRC-BJP government. If the CBI failed to initiate inquiry, the party would certainly approach the High Court, he added. In a separate press briefing at the Pradesh Congress Committee office along with the AICC media in-charge Dolly Sharma, Mr. Vaithilingam said the recent election of the BJP president in Puducherry was just a 'sham.' 'The new president V. P. Ramalingam was earlier a nominated legislator of the BJP. His elevation as president of the party was also a nomination by the leadership. Mr. Ramalingam has never faced an election. No election was conducted at the party level. There is no internal democracy in the BJP,' the PCC chief said. The AICC media-in charge said the BJP central leadership was controlling Chief Minister N. Rangasamy. 'The AINRC-BJP government is involved in corrupt practices and even a ruling party member was involved in the encroachment of a temple land. The ruling combine has failed to obtain Statehood for Puducherry,' she said.
