5-star safety includes Alabama in finalists, announces commitment date
Included in those six programs were the Alabama Crimson Tide, who were also joined by Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Oregon, and Texas A&M. Edwards' commitment decision between the six programs will come July 5.

At the moment, Edwards is currently considered as the nation's No. 24 overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite recruiting rankings, as well as the No. 3 safety in the 2026 class. Edwards, a five-star prospect, is also considered as the No. 3 player in the state of Maryland where he attends nationally-known program, St. Frances Academy.
Alabama's 2026 class is already shaping up to be a special one in terms of defensive backs, as the Crimson Tide have a pair of Top 50 players nationally already committed at cornerback in Jorden Edmonds and Zyan Gibson, the former of which is a five-star.
Could Edwards potentially join that duo in the coming months?

4-star CB Davon Benjamin puts Oregon Ducks among top schools ahead of commitment
After a blazing hot recruiting stretch over the last few weeks, things have slowed down for the Oregon Ducks at this point in July, while we await a few major recruiting announcements early next month. The Ducks are in a great position to land a pair of blue-chip players, 4-star CB Davon Benjamin and 4-star DL Deuce Geralds, both of whom are scheduled to announce their commitments on August 2. On Monday, Benjamin announced his top schools ahead of his commitment, with the Ducks unsurprisingly in the mix. Benjamin listed Oregon alongside the Michigan Wolverines, Texas Longhorns, Washington Huskies, and North Carolina Tar Heels. The 247Sports Composite rates the 4-star CB as the No. 38 player in the 2026 class. Oregon is currently the favorite to land Benjamin, but the Wolverines have been making a strong push for him over the last month, and it could come down to the wire to land the blue-chip prospect. Oregon is also currently the heavy favorite to land Geralds, who is rated as the No. 75 player and No. 9 DL in the class. Former Spartan Jase Richardson back around program following strong NBA Summer League
The culture at Michigan State basketball is simply different, and former Spartans star Jase Richardson further proved that in the past few days. Richardson just finished up an impressive showing in his first career professional action during the NBA Summer League so what's next for him? Maybe a tropical trip or some other destination before preparing for his rookie season in the NBA? Nope, he's right back at Michigan State. Richardson posted an Instagram picture on Sunday showing he was back at the Spartans' practice facility with a simple comment about his return to East Lansing, Mich. -- "always home." You can see the post from Richardson below: Richardson starred for the Spartans in his lone year of college hoops this past season. As a true freshman, Richardson became the Spartans' top player and helped lead them to a Big Ten title and Elite Eight finish in the NCAA Tournament. That strong play resulted in him being selected by the Orlando Magic in the first round of the NBA Draft last month. Former players and those close to the program always talk about how the culture at Michigan State is different from many other places. This is just another example of how head coach Tom Izzo and others around the Spartans' program always make it a place where former players want to come back to and visit. Former UNC pitcher named amongst ESPN's Top 50 MLB Trade Deadline candidates
Don't be shocked to see this former Diamond Heel on a new MLB team come August. Athletes will struggle, even at the professional level. Just ask Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Zac Gallen, the former UNC standout who is mired in the worst season of his MLB career. Gallen, who finished top fiv ive in NL CY Young voting for the 2023 MLB season, currently sports a 7-10 win-loss record with a 5.40 earned run average. Despite striking out 110 batters, good enough for 30th amongst all pitchers, Gallen just gave up six runs in a Saturday loss to the sub-.500 Los Angeles Angels. Sometimes, players just need a change of scenery to rediscover their talent. Such could be the case for Gallen, whom ESPN recently named a Top 50 Trade Deadline Candidate. "Gallen was excellent for the past three seasons but now, in a contract year, is posting career-worst numbers in almost every category," Kiley McDaniel and Jeff Passan wrote. "His stuff looks similar, but he's allowing much more damage when hitters make contact. That said, his strikeout-to-walk ratio is back to normal in his past five starts, at 29-to-5, despite a 6.04 ERA in that span. Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen said the team does not plan to deal away players at the deadline, but if Arizona doesn't make a run, it could reap a huge return with all its impending free agents." Arizona is in a comfortable spot itself, sitting at .500 and eight games out of first place in the NL West, with a deficit even closer in the wild card race. I'm sure the Diamondbacks want the former Diamond Heel for their playoff push – and they have until July 31 to decide. Gallen compiled a 14-13 win-loss record at North Carolina, compiling a 3.36 ERA and striking out 231 batters. Gallen was part of Arizona's World Series run in 2023, starting Game 1 as its staff ace, then followed that season up with a 14-6 campaign in 2024. Will Gallen stay put in the desert or join a World Series contender? You'll know by Thursday, July 31, better known as the trade deadline.
