New ‘thrill ride' action movie dominates Amazon Prime Video charts

Metro13 hours ago
Film fans have hailed a new 'thrill ride' action movie, which has soared to the top of the Amazon Prime Video charts
Heads of State was released on July 2, and followed Idris Elba as the UK Prime Minister, whose 'special relationship' with the US President – aka John Cena – crumbles when they find themselves targeted by a ruthless terrorist organization, and betrayed by someone in their teams.
They end up stranded in Belarus and, unsure of who else to trust, are forced to put their bickering to one side so they can both make it out alive.
Priyanka Chopra, Paddy Considine, Stephen Root and Jack Quaid are also among the star-studded cast, with Ilya Naishuller serving as director.
Despite only premiering on streaming a few days ago, the flick has dominated charts on the streaming platform so far, and is currently in the number one spot in both the UK and US.
Fans and critics have clearly been enjoying the action, as Heads of State claims a 67% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, compared to a 76% ranking from the audience.
Heaping praise, Robert M penned: 'Heads of State offers up that rare buddy movie with lots of action without taking itself too seriously.
'It develops its characters with adept writing and direction whilst it's lead actors bring in strong performances resulting in a thoroughly entertaining movie perfect for its 4th of July debut. I enjoyed this thoroughly [sic].'
Shelly S agreed: 'I enjoyed this. It was a solid action flick with some funny stuff and Cena is really becoming a decent actor. He knows his strengths and he continues to choose films that play to those.
'It's fun seeing Idris is a role a little less serious. There are some fun cameos and lots of crazy action.'
Josh H said: 'Fun and entertaining. A thrill ride we have all seen before, but I am here for it. Cena and Elba have great chemistry. A good watch!'
'Super fun buddy action comedy that reminds you of a well done 90's film,' Marcus A posted. 'Action was really cool and better than most action films now days but had a fun, timeless comedy back and forth, feels like Lethal Weapon but with US and British humor dynamic.
'The bad guys were forgettable, probably only fault with the film but worth watching.'
'We need more movies like this, pure, old, mindless action fun,' Red I added. 'Cena did a great job, all actor pulled their weight, the action was top notch. Great action flick, overall.'
The huge success of the film has many fans desperate for a sequel, and director Ilya already has plans in mind for where Heads of State could go next. More Trending
In fact, he is keen to reunite with Jack Quaid, who stole the show as CIA station chief Marty Comer in a brief action scene.
Unpacking the future of the films, the filmmaker told Screenrant: 'If [people] watch the movie and enjoy it, and Amazon feels like it makes sense to do a second one, absolutely. I'd love to get more of Jack in there [and] more of Marty.'
'If it's not Heads of State 2, I will be bugging Jack to work together again,' he added. 'Because he comes in, he knows what he's doing, he's an incredible energy in terms of his positivity and the desire to not just be here and do a great job, but to go above and beyond.'
Heads of State is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video now.

FBI launches probes into former FBI director, ex-CIA director, Fox News reports

WASHINGTON, July 8 (Reuters) - The FBI launched criminal probes into former CIA Director John Brennan and former FBI director James Comey, Fox News Digital reported on Tuesday, citing sources. These probes are over alleged wrongdoing related to past government investigations about claims of Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. elections in which President Donald Trump defeated former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the news report said. The FBI, the CIA and the Justice Department had no immediate comment. Reuters has not independently verified the probes. The scope of the criminal investigations into Brennan and Comey was unclear, the report added. A criminal investigation does not necessarily result in charges. Fox said its sources were from the Justice Department but did not specify the number of sources. A CIA review released last week found flaws in the production of a U.S. intelligence assessment that Russian President Vladimir Putin sought to sway the 2016 U.S. presidential vote to Trump, but it did not contest that conclusion.

But a court ordered cops to vacate her flat after her rent was due for more than a year, according to ScreenRant. This led authorities to discover her body, which local media reported was in a "state of decomposition". Senior police officer Syed Asad Raza told Images: "It appeared that the body was several days old." Dr Summaiya Syed, who is a part of the investigative process, said: "The body is in a very advanced stage of decomposition." While authorities have yet to reveal the cause of her death, they have ruled out murder as a possible cause. This is because no signs of forced entry were found inside her flat after cops broke in. Humaira is best known for starring on the reality show Tamasha Ghar in Pakistan and in the movie Jalaibee. Tamasha is a similar show to Big Brother, with houseguests competing against each other. The contestants are typically celebrities and other well-known people. Humaira also competed with the title of "pageant winner." More to follow... Tulsi Gabbard demanding access to intel agency emails to find spies working to undermine the Trump agenda: report

A team created by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has allegedly sought mass amounts of internal emails and chat logs from top U.S. spy agencies, in an effort to use A.I. tools to screen for government employees opposing the Trump administration agenda. The team, known as the Director's Initiative Group, has reportedly sought information from the CIA, Defense Intelligence Agency, National Security Agency, and other agencies involved in sensitive intelligence work, unnamed insiders told The Washington Post. Sources told the paper the alleged effort, which so far has been unsuccessful, would represent a 'treasure trove of a target for any foreign intelligence service to go after' if ever completed, and was conducted with an underlying emphasis on rooting out ostensible 'Deep State' career officials working to undermine the president. Gabbard's team has reportedly framed its data access efforts as an attempt to pursue increased efficiency and transparency, similar to the Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency initiative that took place across a variety of U.S. agencies. A spokesperson for Gabbard disputed the paper's reporting. 'The truth is, under the leadership of President Trump, DNI Gabbard and her team at [the Office of the Director of National Intelligence] are daring to do what no other has done before — expose the truth and end the politicization and weaponization of intelligence against Americans,' they said. Announced in April, the Director's Initiative Group has a mission of 'restoring transparency and accountability to the Intelligence Community,' according to the Trump administration. The group is tasked with 'investigating weaponization, rooting out deep-seeded politicization, exposing unauthorized disclosures of classified intelligence, and declassifying information that serves a public interest,' read a statement from Gabbard's office announcing the effort. Since taking office, the Trump administration has vowed to end the alleged 'weaponization' of law enforcement and intelligence agencies against perceived opponents. Gabbard has been involved in multiple high-profile firings of intelligence officials, which critics said were motivated by partisan interests, since being confirmed in February. In April, more than 100 members of the intelligence community were fired for using official chatrooms to discuss personal matters, including sexually explicit topics and gender transition surgery, after chat logs were published by conservative activist and commentator Christopher Rufo. The following month, top career officials on the National Intelligence Council were fired for allegedly leaking material to the media. The firings came after the administration was embarrassed by leaks of intelligence assessments that concluded the Venezuelan government was likely not coordinating with the Tren de Aragua gang - a claim that served as the foundation of the White House's use of the Alien Enemies Act to summarily deport alleged gang members inside the U.S.
