Miami football landed a big-time commitment on Tuesday, as coach Mario Cristobal earned a pledge from the highest-ranked recruit of his career.
Five-star offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell, the No. 1-ranked player in the 2026 class according to 247Sports' Composite rankings, chose the Hurricanes over Georgia, Oregon and Ohio State on Tuesday.

'Miami excites me a lot because they have an offensive-line oriented coach in Mario Cristobal,' Cantwell told On3 recently. 'I like Coach Cristobal a lot. I think Coach Mirabal is a top-five O-line coach in the country. Even that could be a little like subjective where in the top five it would be. He does a fantastic job. He does a great developing (sic). They always seem to have the right guys on the offensive line.'
Cantwell has a 6-foot-7, 325-pound frame, according to his 247Sports page. The Nixa High School product from Nixa, Missouri, was also the Missouri state champion in shot put and discus. Cantwell comes from an athletic background, as his dad, Christian Cantwell, won the silver medal in shot put at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. His mother, Teri Steer, was a thrower at the 2000 Sydney Games.
Cantwell reportedly is receiving quite the name, image and likeness package for his commitment. According to a report from Eli Lederman, the national recruiting and college football reporter for ESPN, Miami has an NIL deal in place with Cantwell worth more than $2 million annually.
The Hurricanes' 2026 class now ranks ninth nationally, as they have 10 commitments, four of whom are rated as four stars or higher by 247Sports.

Jose Caballero made a key error in Friday's loss. David Bednar allowed two earned runs. And Caballero's blunder was effectively the nail in the coffin, as the Marlins won on an infield dribbler moments later. Yankees, and their new bullpen acquisitions, implode against Marlins in wild game
One day after the trade deadline, the three newest additions to the New York Yankees' bullpen collapsed in a stunning 13-12 loss to the Miami Marlins. Jake Bird, David Bednar and Camilo Doval combined to allow nine runs in 2 1/3 innings in what was arguably the Yankees' worst loss of the season. 'Not how you draw it up, but those guys are really good at what they do,' manager Aaron Boone said of his new relievers. 'It's not the first time they've had a rough one, and I fully expect them to bounce back.' It was the Yankees' first nine-inning loss while scoring 12 or more runs since Aug. 12, 1973, against Oakland, according to Katie Sharp of Baseball Reference. Yankees' trade deadline additions implode in loss to Marlins: Highlights
The New York Yankees blew multiple leads before losing to the Miami Marlins 13-12 at LoanDepot Park on Friday night. While the Yankees outhit the Marlins 15-12, Miami did enough to come out on top with a win that featured a six-run seventh inning. New York blew leads of 6-0, 9-4 and 12-10. The Yankees' bullpen struggled, including three new pitchers acquired before the trade deadline on Thursday. Jake Bird, David Bednar and Camilo Doval all made their debut for New York on Friday. Their outings were not what fans were hoping for. The three pitchers were brought in by New York in an attempt to overhaul the bullpen. Bird allowed three hits, including a home run, and four earned runs in just 0.1 inning of work. He entered the game with the Yankees leading 9-4 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. With the score at 9-8 Yankees, Bednar was brought into the game in place of Bird. Bednar pitched 1.2 innings, allowing four hits, including one home run, and two earned runs to surrender the lead. He did manage to get the Yankees through the eighth inning without giving up another run. Doval replaced Bednar to start the ninth inning with the Yankees leading 12-10. He allowed two hits and three runs (one earned) in 0.1 innings to take the loss. It wasn't entirely on Doval, though — he was undone in part by a horrible error by another new addition, Jose Caballero. Playing his first game with the Yankees, Caballero misplayed a ground ball hit to right field. With the ball rolling nearly to the warning track, the game-tying runs were able to score and the winning run was suddenly set up on third. Four pitches later, the Yankees' collapse was complete thanks to a dribbler that didn't even make it to the infield grass. YES Network broadcaster Michael Kay called it the Yankees' "worst loss of the year."
