Government's goal is to achieve ‘zero poverty' by 2047, says Minister

The Hindu07-07-2025
The State government has taken up development plans and vision documents to the district and Assembly Constituency level for the first time ever, said Minister for Revenue, Registration and Stamps Anagani Satya Prasad.

Land registration freeze continues over ‘tampered' records in Andhra Pradesh

Vijayawada: The state govt is virtually left clueless to resolve the contentious free-hold lands issue. The registration of about 20 lakh acres of assigned lands has been put on hold on the suspicion of tampering of records. Although, the govt conducted village level revenue meetings to screen the land records, it could not resolve the free-hold lands issue in the last one year. Several lakhs of farmers have been struggling to sell their lands as the govt is delaying the decision to lift the ban on registration of the lands entered into the prohibitory lands register. The state govt has even appointed a Group of Ministers (GoM) to study the issue after the senior officials failed to come up with a solution. Surprisingly, the GoM too could not ready the roadmap to unlock the controversy even after holding several meetings. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo "We are hopeful of finding a solution by October. It is taking time as the govt wanted to prevent irregularities in transfer of assigned lands to the influential people. We wanted to protect the rights of the genuine landlords as well as the govt property," said revenue minister Anagani Satya Prasad. A large number of farmers and eligible assignees, thought that the govt will free up the freeze orders at least to the extent which were not on the suspicion list. Giving a shocker to the original assignees, the govt has extended the ban by another three months in the guise of further verification of records. "The govt looks keen to hand over the lands of the poor to landlords and corporates with such delay tactics. We demand that an all-party meeting be held immediately to formulate a comprehensive policy on the land issue," CPM state secretary V Srinivasa Rao. He explained that successive govts have stated that approximately 32 lakh acres of surplus land were distributed to the poor since 1970. However, previous govt declared that around 15 lakh acres were encroached upon by influential persons. "Before elections, Naidu had promised to take the assigned lands from the ineligible people back and given to genuine beneficiaries. Not even an acre was distributed besides resolution of the existing 22-A controversy," said Srinivasa Rao.

Population is not a burden, it's our greatest asset: CM Chandrababu Naidu

VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has emphasised the need for population management rather than control. Observing that population is an asset, but not a burden, he said its growth will come in handy to realise the goals of Viksit Bharat and Swarnandhra Vision 2047. Participating in the first Amaravati Summit on World Population Day held behind the State Secretariat on Friday, he underscored the need to increase the fertility rate to avoid scarcity of human resources. He said a robust policy on population growth will be introduced soon. On the occasion, he launched a survey designed on the concept 'Population management starts with every family. Your opinion is our policy guide'. Emphasising that India's ability to compete with developed nations is largely dependent on its population, he said, 'Once, population was seen as a major problem. Before 2004, as the CM, I incentivized family planning. We even brought a law disqualifying those with more than two children from contesting local body elections. But today, there's a need to amend the law to allow those with more than two children to contest the polls. A nation is not just about its land, towns or borders, it is about its people.' Explaining the significance of Population Day, Naidu said, 'Today, 1.8 billion people globally are aged between 10 and 24. Earlier, countries with large population were looked down upon. Now, even developed nations are compelled to look to populous countries. Population is not a burden, it is our greatest asset,' he observed.

‘Noble' persons urged to act as mentors for ‘Bangaru Kutumbalu'

Paderu (ASR District): Ministerfor Tribal Welfare and Women & Child Development Gummadi Sandhya Rani appealed to individuals with noble intentions to come forward and act as mentors to the selected 'Bangaru Kutumbalu' under the P4 programme. She said that mentorship does not mean financial aid alone, but includes sharing knowledge, inspiring confidence, and helping families access better growth opportunities. The Minister conducted a review of Swarnandhra Vision 2047 and P4 programme at the district Collectorate in Paderu on Friday. Speaking at the meeting, she said the 'Bangaru Kutumbam–Margadarsi' initiative was conceptualised and implemented by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu with a generous vision to uplift poor families. Only economically disadvantaged families should be identified under the scheme, she said, and stressed the need to guide their children towards quality education and skill development. The Minister also stressed the importance of helping such families secure bank loans and ensuring that the funds are used effectively. She mentioned that she had recentlyrequested the TTD Chairman to procure tribal products like coffee, tamarind, and turmeric to promote local produce and ensure market support. Sandhya Rani announced that the P4 programme would be implemented from the village level and noted that improving dairy production through the establishment of 100 Gokulams (cow shelters) in each mandal would boost rural development. Highlighting infrastructure works, she said road development projects worth Rs 1,000 crore were underway across the district. She also urged the release of ITDA subsidies for the benefit of tribal communities and called for focused efforts on organic farming. She instructed officials to expedite the distribution of ROFR (Recognition of Forest Rights) land titles and ensure the availability of essential medicines and medical equipment in tribal healthcare facilities. As part of the P4–Bangaru Kutumbam–Margadarsi initiative, Minister Sandhya Rani announced the adoption of ten families, declaring that she would personally mentor them. District Collector AS Dinesh Kumar gave a detailed digital presentation on the roadmap for Swarnandhra Vision 2047, including plans to achieve a 15% growth rate by 2029. He explained strategies across sectors such as agriculture, horticulture, coffee, and industry, and mentioned that organic production would be enhanced in a phased manner over the next five years. He described Araku Coffee as a prime example of India's organic excellence. A poster on the P4 programme was unveiled during the meeting. District SP Amit Bardar, Joint Collector Dr MJ Abhishek Gowda, Paderu Sub-Collector Saurya Maan Patel, and Rampachodavaram MLA Miriyala Sirisha Devi also participated.
