Abreu is having a great season for the Red Sox, but Boston has a lot of outfield depth. In the farm system, there are more players banging on the door of their big league call-up.
But Boston would need to land a huge deal to trade away Abreu. If the Red Sox can land a controllable starting pitcher or shut-down closer in a deal involving Abreu, it would make sense. But it wouldn't make much sense at all for the Red Sox to cut ties with a young outfielder in a deal for more prospects.
Still, it would be foolish for the Red Sox not to entertain the idea if Abreu receives extensive attention as a trade chip.
