However, he still faces an uncertain future at Ibrox with Rangers linked with several replacements in his central defensive role.
And Twente sports director Jan Streuer has now revealed Propper is one of their three main targets for the summer.
He said: "There is no clarity yet with Robin, but we hope to get it very soon.
"We have money to buy players. Is that a lot of money? Twente is not a club that is going to pay five, six or seven million for a player. We are not there yet.
"But we can do something.
"We are also still looking for a commanding attacking midfielder and we would like a very good left winger too.
"We are doing it differently now. It is better to be aggressive in the transfer market. You have certain players in mind and you want to make the right choice."
Propper captained Twente before his move to Rangers last summer and it remains to be seen whether he will be part of their plans this season.
It had previously been reported that his move back to his old stomping ground was already all but done.
But twists and turns in the tale have risen from the fact that there's a whole new regime at Ibrox.
Ex-Rangers supremo David Murray on the club's new owners and why Gio shouldn't have been sacked
The lack of clarity over the situation, as Streuer suggests, likely stems from both waiting for the new manager to arrive and decide his squad plans, and for decisions to be made in tandem with the new post-takeover bosses.
But with Martin's first game out the way and a Propper deadline set, that decision will have to come soon.
The head coach has already insisted that both Cyriel Dessers and Hamza Igamane are part of his plans despite neither featuring against Brugge.
Amid reports of a £15million bid for the Moroccan player Martin said it was an international visa issue that stopped him from playing, and a small injury for his Nigerian teammate.

Joe Rothwell is living proof of Rangers ambitions as Leeds insider believes new man is Premier League class
Rothwell is good enough for the Premier League according to Stuart Dallas and the fact he's joined Rangers is a sign of both teams' ambitions Stuart Dallas reckons it's a sign of Leeds' Premier League ambitions this season that his old club was prepared to let Joe Rothwell leave. But he's looking at Rangers ' capture of one of the Elland Road side's key men last term as a clear signal of the Ibrox outfit's intent for the coming campaign too. Former Elland Road hero Dallas is a huge fan of Russell Martin's new midfield recruit. He credits the 30-year-old with being among Daniel Farke's standout performers last term as his Yorkshire raiders stormed their way to Championship victory and promotion back to England's mega-rich top flight. Dallas felt the ex-Blackburn ace could have played another important role for Leeds in among the big boys this season had they made last year's loan switch from Bournemouth permanent. Farke had other plans, though, and is now chasing Hoffenheim's £14million midfield man Anton Stach as he seeks to construct a team capable of surviving in the toughest league on earth. But while Leeds decision not to pursue Rothwell has surprised Lillywhites legend Dallas, the boyhood Bluenose is delighted he's now on board at Rangers as his childhood heroes look to pull up their own seat among the European elite in the Champions League. Dallas told Record Sport: 'I think it shows the ambition that Leeds have that they can let a player like Joe Rothwell leave and try to find someone better. 'Had Farke signed him, I felt it would have been a good addition for his team going back up to the Premier League. But I think it also shows the ambition of Rangers that they've gone and got a player who was arguably one of the best midfielders in the Championship last year.' Rothwell was introduced to the Ibrox faithful at half-time of Sunday's friendly draw with Club Brugge as he took a bow alongside fellow new recruits Thelo Aasgaard and Lyle Cameron. But Dallas can't wait to see how he fits into Martin's new look Light Blues side. Rothwell and his new team-mates are heading south to St George's Park, the £80million training base used by Thomas Tuchel's England side, for a week-long training camp. Russell has lined up a closed-door clash against mystery opposition, meaning the Gers support will have to wait until the vital Champions League qualifier against Panathinaikos on July 22 to get their first sight of Rothwell in a blue jersey. But Dallas - a Championship winner with Leeds in 2020 - said: 'I'm excited having seen what Joe did for Leeds last year. 'He came in on loan from Bournemouth but he didn't start the season in the team because Leeds had Ethen Ampadu and Ilia Gruev. 'They were a brilliant midfielder pair - but by chance they both got injured in the same week. 'You looked at Leeds and thought the one position they can't afford to lose is centre midfield because at that stage we didn't know much about Ao Tanaka. 'But as it goes, Joe and Tanaka were probably a better midfield partnership. 'I've obviously known Joe as a player, having come up against him many times. 'And when he started playing for Leeds, he was brilliant. He was so good throughout the rest of the season. 'He was exactly what Leeds needed. At times he'd run games in the Championship from midfield. 'Technically he's very good - very neat and tidy on the ball. He breaks up play really well. He's got a good range of passing. 'But for me, his main strength is he can carry the ball. At times when Leeds were playing against a low block, which obviously Rangers are going to come up against next season, they needed somebody to break a line and this is what Joe was actually really, really good at doing. 'He's not a creative No10, but he can certainly drive with the ball. That's a big strength, as is his range of passing and set-piece delivery. 'He's a big character as well. He's quiet within his own right, but he'll be a leader within the dressing room, which is exactly what Rangers need. 'They need leaders not just on the park, but off the park as well. 'He's player who can run games himself at times. When a team needs a little bit of energy, he was able to inject that into the game. If I remember correctly, there was a big match away at Sheffield United when Leeds were struggling at 1-0 down. 'I was at the game covering it for Sky 'Daniel Farke introduced Joe just after half-time and you could just feel the game change. 'With his running power with the ball, he really grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck that night. That's what he is capable of. "I look at the Rangers squad and I don't see another player really like that. 'Obviously they've got Nico Raskin in there and I think he would form a great partnership, the two of them. 'I think that's probably what Rangers have lacked, the ability to control games at times through their midfield. 'I think he's a great fit for them, to be honest.' Four of Gers' five summer signings have been recruited from south of Hadrian's Wall. But that has worried some fans still suffering flashbacks to the recruitment misadventures in England that have cost the club so dear in recent years. Dallas, however, is confident that value for money can be found in the EFL. He said: 'I played the majority of my career in the EFL and I still think it can be a worthwhile market for clubs like Rangers. 'Certainly there is good talent available at the top end of the Championship, maybe even the lower end of the Premier League if possible as well. 'Rangers are in a position now, obviously, where they haven't been winning trophies. 'But the challenge of getting the club back to that level will still attract players, especially with the lure of European competition too. 'I think it shows what Joe's all about as well that he's willing to go up there. 'There's been interest elsewhere for him by all accounts, with clubs in Spain mentioned. 'Joe played in the best team in the Championship last year and was a standout player. I think it makes perfect sense for Rangers to go for a player like him.'

Man Utd 'close' to midfielder transfer amid fresh talks for Bryan Mbeumo
Manchester United are still locked in talks with Brentford over the signing of winger Bryan Mbeumo, but have reportedly agreed a different deal for a midfielder Manchester United remain busy in the summer transfer window, with the squad overhaul demanded by Ruben Amorim beginning to take shape. United know that major changes are needed if they are to climb the Premier League table in the upcoming campaign following a miserable 2024/25 season. They have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves and Diego Leon, but want many more deals. The club are working on the sales of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho and more. They know that departures will be key if they are to give Amorim a chance of turning things around. But the backroom staff are also continuing to pursue new signings in a competitive market. The lack of European football at Old Trafford next season is hampering things, but a few new arrivals could be close, according to the latest reports. Mbeumo talks continue Manchester United 's pursuit of Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo has been going on for a while now, but they are still yet to make the breakthrough. Nevertheless, the deal is still expected to go ahead – things are just taking a while. Brentford are understandably playing hard ball over the transfer fee after Mbeumo's outstanding 2024/25 campaign, in which he reached 20 Premier League goals, and United remain locked in talks. The Cameroon international is keen to join United and personal terms aren't a problem Fabrizio Romano now reports that United remain optimistic about striking a deal, but talks are expected to continue, with no agreement yet. Remain patient United fans, it will happen. Deal for midfielder 'close' Elsewhere, there's a bolt from the blue with Italian outlet Calciomercato reporting that United are close to signing Valencia midfielder Javi Guerra. AC Milan have shown an interest in the 22-year-old, but United have apparently stolen a march. Milan were lining up an offer of between €25m and €30m (£21m-£25m), while Mundo Deportivo have credited Atletico Madrid and Aston Villa with an interest in Guerra. He has two years left on his contract with Valencia, where he has eight goals and four assists in 89 games so far. Greenwood cash boost As previously mentioned, United know they need sales to help fund their recruitment drive. They have no say over the potential sale of Mason Greenwood this summer, having sent him to Marseille last summer, but he could still provide them with some cash. Greenwood performed well for Marseille last year, scoring 21 Ligue 1 goals, and Juventus and Barcelona have been linked with a move for the ex-United striker. Reports in Spain say that Al-Ahli have now entered running and have put a €70m (£60m) offer on the table. That could be good news for United, who have a 50 per cent sell-on clause. Greenwood is under contract with Marseille until June 2029. Join our new MAN UTD WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Manchester United content from Mirror Football. Wrexham hit with major Jamie Vardy blow as rival boss hints at stunning deal
Wrexham have been linked with a move for Jamie Vardy, but Rangers have now emerged as a potential destination and manager Russell Martin has addressed the rumours Rangers boss Russell Martin has refused to rule out signing Jamie Vardy this summer, with the former England international available on a free transfer. Vardy left Leicester after 13 years last season and has also been linked with a move to Wrexham. The 38-year-old scored 145 Premier League goals for Leicester, a figure that puts him 14th on the all-time list, and Rangers have been mooted as a potential destination. And when asked about a move for Vardy following a pre-season friendly against Club Brugge, Martin refused to be drawn. "I think I've been asked about so many players," he said. "Some miles away, some on the money. So, basically, I'm not going to give you an answer on that. But I guess you'll find out who's real and who's not in the next few weeks. "I think we definitely want to do more [signings], for sure. And also probably some players need to move on as well at some point because the squad's going to start looking very big and very heavy." Although Wrexham have long been credited with an interested in Vardy, reports emerged from Italy recently claiming that Genoa had been in pole position to sign the striker. It was claimed that the club's sporting director, Flavio Ricciardella, was keen on signing Vardy. Riccardella is said to have lined up a deal which would have been financed by support from sponsors, but Genoa boss Patrick Vieira reportedly vetoed the move. Vardy has said he believes he can still compete at the highest level, telling Sky Sports back in May that he has no doubts about his ability. "No, but that's just me," he said. " Football is a crazy world. "You never know what's going to happen. I'll keep going until my legs tell me I need to stop. My legs are fine. I'm doing a sport that I love, it's what I've done since I was a little kid so long may that continue." Reflecting on his time at Leicester, Vardy added: "You can speak to my family and they'll all say I'm emotionless. It might do at the end of the game or whatever, but until that happens, I'm literally just focused on the game. "You don't get a chance to look back on it. It's about seeing out the season with momentum to start next season. I keep saying it and it's weird, but you don't get a chance to look back on it. Because you're in it, the season finishes, you shut off completely. "Mentally and physically, it's a killer. It does you in. So by the time you've then had your couple of weeks to switch off, you're then back in, getting ready for the new season. So it just keeps rolling into one."
