Contractors send second legal notice to Maharashtra govt over Rs 90,000-crore unpaid bills
The association has given govt a 15-day ultimatum, warning of approaching Bombay HC if their demands were not met.
The reminder notice, dated July 2, was sent through BAI's legal counsel and addressed to the CM, chief secretary, additional chief secretary (home) and senior officials across 26 govt departments. The first notice, sent earlier this year, received no response. "Contractors have completed works and raised bills, which have remained upaid.
Many have borrowed heavily from banks to complete govt projects and now face default notices.
..The financial stress is pushing several of our members to the brink of bankruptcy. We urge govt to release the dues without any delay," BAI said in a statement.
The unpaid bills span a range of public works, from roads and bridges to irrigation and infrastructure projects, executed across state departments and local bodies.

BAI members said as these dues remained unsettled, the state continued to float new tenders for infrastructure works worth thousand crores of rupees. "This is not just unfair, it is untenable. How can new tenders be floated when existing contractors haven't been paid for completed works?" a senior BAI member asked.
The association said it was prepared to file a petition in Bombay HC if govt did not take any concrete action. "We hoped the matter would be resolved through dialogue. But the silence from govt's side leaves us with no option but to seek judicial intervention," the member said.
BAI has also appealed to the CM to convene a high-level meeting with all departments concerned to resolve the issue urgently.

Khopde Gets NIT Trustee Post After Cabinet Snub
1 2 3 Nagpur: Ahead of the Maharashtra cabinet expansion, there was strong buzz surrounding East Nagpur's veteran BJP leader and four-time MLA Krishna Khopde, with many expecting his elevation to a ministerial role. After securing the highest victory margin in Vidarbha this time, he was felicitated in Mumbai by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis. However, when the final list of ministers was released, Khopde's name was absent once again, which was widely seen as 'political neglect'. In what appears to be a face-saving move, the BJP has now appointed Khopde as a trustee of Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) — a body he himself publicly demanded be dissolved multiple times in the state assembly. Originally set up during the British era for city planning, NIT was expected to be scrapped after the formation of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). During Fadnavis's earlier tenure as CM, the govt initiated a phased dismantling of NIT. But after the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) govt came to power, the decision was overturned and the trust was reinstated. With the Mahayuti govt now back in power, BJP MLA Pravin Datke and Khopde both renewed their demand to scrap NIT during the ongoing Assembly sessions. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like local network access control Esseps Learn More Undo Ironically, Khopde — who had called for its dissolution — has now been made one of its trustees, triggering sharp political commentary over the BJP's internal power dynamics. Khopde is known in political circles as a 'giant killer', having defeated senior Congress leader and former guardian minister Satish Chaturvedi in what was once considered a Congress stronghold in East Nagpur. Khopde was only a corporator, and his victory was seen as a major upset. Despite his strong grassroot base, Khopde was repeatedly overlooked for ministerial roles. In 2014, he even offered to vacate his seat for Nitin Gadkari to become CM — a move seen as politically overzealous and one that may have worked against him within party ranks, said political experts. While the NIT trustee position holds administrative significance, it lacks political clout and visibility of a cabinet post — leading many to see this as a consolation prize rather than a genuine reward for loyalty and electoral success. Khopde, though holding no new official post, said he continues to work with NIT and has been given added responsibilities. He has formed a five-member committee to clear long-pending reservation corrections and encroachments within a year. Another panel will tackle smaller, overlooked reservations. He also highlighted a new order to regularize Gunthewari layouts, protecting plot holders from extortion and enabling regulation based on valid agreements and NIT records.

HDK announces proposal for tourism devpt of Srirangapatna
Mandya: Union minister for heavy industries and steel HD Kumaraswamy announced that a proposal was submitted to the Union ministry of tourism for the development of historical monuments in Srirangapatna under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme, with an estimated outlay of Rs 100 crore. Speaking during the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting here on Friday, Kumaraswamy said the initiative aims to boost tourism in Srirangapatna taluk, alongside the preservation and development of its heritage sites. On the agriculture front, he noted the favourable monsoon this year and instructed the agriculture and horticulture departments to provide timely and consistent guidance to farmers. Deputy commissioner Kumara reported that awareness drives are being held in schools and colleges on the legal and social consequences of child marriage, including education on the Pocso Act. He also informed that AI-enabled cameras have been installed along the Bengaluru-Mysuru National Highway to monitor speeding and reduce accidents, with fines being imposed on violators. Zilla panchayat CEO KR Nandini said special attention is being paid at festival and mass marriage venues to verify the age of the bride and groom, as a measure to prevent child marriages. MLAs P Ravikumar (Mandya), HT Manju (KR Pet), and MLC Vivekananda were also present. *** BOX Congress MLAs absent from DISHA Meeting Addressing the issue of Congress MLAs skipping the DISHA meeting, Kumaraswamy said, "I don't know whether they will attend or not—but I will still do my duty." He added that personal prestige and political rivalry were not his concerns. "I don't need an invitation from Congress MLAs. The people of Mandya have invited me, and I am here to work for their development," he told reporters. In Mysuru, agriculture minister N Cheluvarayaswamy, who is Mandya district in-charge, responded to the conduct of the DISHA meeting by Kumaraswamy in Mandya. Cheluvarayaswamy stated that Kumaraswamy didn't attend meetings he chaired. He accused Kumaraswamy of failing to focus on the development of the Mandya Lok Sabha segment. Speaking to reporters, he said: As a Union minister, Kumaraswamy should get major projects and funds to the state and Mandya. He allocated Rs 30 lakh for an auto stand from his MP Local Area Development Fund. This will not help the people, he said. He remarked that everyone, including former MP Sumalatha Ambareesh, has done similar work, as funds are available to legislators and MPs. He suggested that Kumaraswamy, being a Union minister, should work with senior Union minister from Karnataka, Pralhad Joshi, to get funds due to the state from the Centre.
