Rekha Gupta Unveils Restored Mughal-Era 'Sheeshmahal', Takes Swipe At AAP
The 'Sheeshmahal' - a name given to former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's official residence is back in the limelight after incumbent Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, from the BJP, took a swipe at the Aam Aadmi Party at an event and alleged that the former government built 'Sheeshmahal' for pleasure from the hard-earned money of the people of Delhi.
Ms Gupta was speaking at an event organised by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), and unveiled the 'Sheesh Mahal' in Shalimar Bagh, a structure from the Mughal era, restored by the DDA. The Chief Minister took a swipe at the AAP and said, " The former Chief Minister built a Sheesh Mahal for his pleasure from the hard-earned money of the people of Delhi. This Sheesh Mahal, on the other hand, has been dedicated to the public for their convenience."
"This is the difference between the previous governments and the current government... We must return the previous Sheesh Mahal to its origin. The money taken from the public treasury should be returned," she added.
In March, when Ms Gupta presented Delhi's budget, she fired jabs at the AAP and alleged that Mr Kejriwal's party misused Rs 45 crore of taxpayers' money to refurbish his former residence. These allegations went a long way toward ensuring the victory of Bharatiya Janata Party in the election.
The 'sheeshmahal' controversy was widely seen as a key reason for the AAP's defeat in this year's election, with the BJP hammering Mr Kejriwal and his party over the alleged corruption.
Meanwhile, Ms Gupta's official residence - Bungalow Number 1, Raj Niwas Marg - will also undergo a renovation that would cost Rs 59.40 lakh to fix electrical and civil work, and will involve the installation of 14 split air conditioners worth Rs 7.7 lakh, five LED TVs worth Rs 9.9 lakh, and 23 ceiling fans with a remote control costing Rs 1.8 lakh.
Fourteen CCTV cameras worth Rs 5.74 lakh will be installed, and the residence will also have a UPS system for power backup. Other appliances include six geysers for Rs 91,000, one automatic washing machine for Rs 77,000, a toast grill for Rs 85,000, and one dishwasher for Rs 60,000.
Sheesh Mahal Of Shalimar Bagh
Ms Gupta, along with Lt Governor of Delhi, Vinai Kumar Saxena, Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, and Member of Parliament Praveen Khandelwal, today inaugurated the restored Sheesh Mahal at Shalimar Bagh, a Mughal-era structure originally built by Emperor Shah Jahan. The restoration is part of a larger initiative led by the DDA to revive neglected heritage sites across the capital, under the PM's vision of "Vikas bhi, Virasat bhi".
The Union minister also slammed the previous AAP government while speaking at the unveiling ceremony.
"When this restoration project was first taken up by LG Saxena, there was a repulsive government in Delhi. Now, there is a double-engine force multiplying government in Delhi," the minister said.
According to the officials, the initiative was taken by Mr Saxena, and DDA restored the structure with the technical supervision of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
Shalimar Bagh, built in 1653, has seen many phases of history, from the Mughal period to British rule.
The authority has also restored an almost decayed 'baradari' and three heritage cottages within the Shalimar Bagh; two of the cottages have been adaptively re-used for community-focused purposes.
The Readers Cafe Corner and Cafe Shalimar, a cafeteria for park visitors, now occupy these restored spaces

BJP Castigates Karnataka Caste Survey As Enumerators Accused Of Faking The Exercise
BJP claims that 'incriminating CCTV footage' has exposed this deceptive practice, casting a shadow over the integrity of the entire exercise A critical survey of Scheduled Caste (SC) households in Karnataka has plunged into controversy, with allegations surfacing that enumerators are faking the exercise by pasting 'completion" stickers on homes without engaging with residents. 'Incriminating CCTV footage" reportedly exposes this deceptive practice, casting a shadow over the integrity of the entire exercise. The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has wasted no time in denouncing the survey as 'bogus". BJP Spokesperson Ashok Gowda launched a scathing attack, stating, 'They are sticking the stickers that they have done the survey even for a Brahmin's house, for a Vokkaliga's house, a Lingayat's house, an OBC house, and even for a Reddy house. So what will be the authenticity of this survey? What is this survey going to bring out? Is it going to bring out population data overall? Or what is intended by Siddaramaiah's mind, will that be implemented? We have serious objections to this. Now, will this report have any authentication is what is being doubted by the Kannadigas all over the state." In response to the mounting criticism, Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah defended the survey, offering an alternative for residents. 'If that's the case, enrol online. Is there any problem with enrolling online? You can enrol online or when they come home. There are so many ways to enrol, we accept it," he stated, attempting to assuage concerns about the door-to-door enumeration process. This controversy erupts even as Karnataka gears up to conduct a comprehensive 'caste census", reportedly at the behest of the Congress high command. The alleged irregularities in the SC household survey, however, raise serious questions about the methodologies and reliability of such ambitious data collection efforts. The authenticity of the final report and its potential implications for policy-making are now under intense scrutiny across the state.

Maha govt plans to bring in new sand policy for Gharkul beneficiaries
Mumbai: Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Thursday announced in the state Assembly that the government is contemplating formulating a separate policy under which free sand will be transported to the beneficiaries of the Gharkul scheme. Bawankule also clarified in the House that the Tehsildar was suspended after a complaint was filed regarding some sand cases in the Tumsar Assembly constituency. "We don't know who is using whose name. If anyone is misusing my name or the Chief Minister's name, file an FIR directly at the police station. We will put such people in jail," he warned. Minister Bawankule said, "The Gharkul beneficiaries have received royalty, but now the question is – who will deliver the sand to their homes? The transportation cost is Rs 30,000 to 40,000. The beneficiaries cannot afford this much cost. The sand reserves are far away in many places, and it has to be delivered from a distance of 30-50 km." Considering these difficulties, the Revenue Department, in collaboration with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the Finance Department, has started considering a new 'Domestic Sand Transport Policy'. The minister said, "I will present a clear plan in this regard before the end of the session. As much help as possible will be provided to the beneficiaries of the Gharkul scheme to ensure easy access to sand." Earlier, Minister Bawankule announced that the transportation of excavated sand will be allowed for 24 hours after taking a valid transport permit in Maharashtra. "As the sand transportation is not permitted between 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., the use of sand in the state is not done fully. Therefore, the government, in a bid to promote maximum use of the stock of sand excavated from 6 am to 6 pm, has decided to allow 24-hour transportation by procuring a valid permit, adhering to certain conditions. The government is providing the facility of procuring a valid permit that will be available for 24 hours," he said.

‘Shows the mentality of BJP leaders': Karnataka MLC N Ravikumar in the dock over vulgar comments against Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh
Karnataka BJP MLC N Ravikumar is at the centre of another row over his alleged derogatory comments against state Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh, drawing sharp reactions from the Congress party. While N Ravikumar made the remarks against Rajneesh during a protest in front of Vidhana Soudha Monday, a police complaint was filed on Wednesday. Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) general secretary S Manohar filed the complaint at the Vidhana Soudha Police Station, demanding legal action against him for using unparliamentary language when referring to Rajneesh. The Congress party also said it will petition the Legislative Council Chairman, Basavaraj Horatti. On Monday, BJP leaders, including Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, MLA Cement Manju, Ravikumar, and former MP S Muniswamy, staged a protest at Vidhana Soudha against the eviction of Dalit families living in Kadugodi, Bengaluru. Following the protest, they were unhappy that Rajneesh was not available to receive their petition, which demanded that the eviction be stopped immediately. In a video clip of a conversation after the protest, Narayanaswamy is seen complaining to a police officer about her absence. Muniswamy asks the official, 'Is she CS for Karnataka or only for the CM?' to which Narayanswamy intervenes to say that there was no point in blaming her. Ravikumar then makes a comment against the senior Indian Administrative Service officer. The issue gained traction after the video clip was widely shared on social media platforms. Karnataka Women and Child Development Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar condemned Ravikumar's remarks. 'This shows the mentality of BJP leaders. This is neither now nor surprising,' she said. Hebbalkar said Rajneesh is a senior IAS officer, and a role model for thousands of women. 'It does not matter who the woman is. She may be an officer, Laxmi Hebbalkar, or a commoner… Who gave him the right to make such comments?' she asked. In May this year, Ravikumar was booked by the police after he said Kalaburagi Deputy Commissioner Fouzia Taranum 'may have come from Pakistan'. The Karnataka IAS Officers' Association condemned his remarks, and demanded an unconditional apology from the BJP legislator. Ravikumar made the remarks during a protest rally organised by the BJP at Kalaburagi on May 24. Ravikumar said the deputy commissioner's office in Kalaburagi had lost its independence, and that the DC was 'listening' to what Congress says. 'I don't know whether she comes from Pakistan or is an IAS officer here. Listening to your applause, I think she might have come from Pakistan,' he said.
