TTD will adopt technology to ensure timely darshan for devotees, says EO

The Hindu7 days ago
Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) Executive Officer J. Shyamala Rao has instructed the officials to adopt technology-driven measures to enable devotees to have the darshan of Lord Venkateswara at the designated time.
Addressing a meeting in virtual mode with the representatives from Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and the TTD's IT department and Additional Executive Officer C.H. Venkayya Chowdary on Tuesday, Mr. Rao stressed the need for systematic technological intervention across all darshan modes—Sarva Darshan, Slotted Sarva Darshan (SSD), Special Entry Darshan (SED) and Divya Darshan.
He asked the officials to deploy technology from the time devotees enter the queue lines till the completion of darshan, to improve efficiency and reduce the waiting periods.
He advised that TCS and TTD's IT teams conduct frequent reviews and work towards an integrated action plan.
He proposed exploring QR code-based and facial recognition systems for faster and accurate verification, replacing the current manual methods.
Noting that delays often occur due to pilgrims arriving later than their allotted time slots, he suggested conducting awareness campaigns to improve adherence to the scheduled reporting times and reduce congestion.
Earlier, TCS representatives presented an analysis, detailing the time taken by devotees in various stages—from queue entry to darshan and temple exit—across SSD, SED, Divya Darshan formats and Arjitha Sevas.
The meeting was attended by TTD General Manager (IT) Sesha Reddy, Assistant General Manager Venkateswara Chowdary, and other officials.

TCS gives out variable pay! Over 70% employees to get 100% variable; no decision yet on salary hikes

At TCS, the hierarchical structure begins with Y grade for trainees, progressing to C1 for systems engineers. TCS variable pay: In good news for a majority of its employees, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India's largest IT services firm, will give 100% variable pay out to around 70% of its staff for the April to June quarter. The compensation for remaining staff members will be decided by their business units' performance metrics. Although quarterly variable payments have been consistently distributed, the organisation is yet to finalise its annual salary hike policy. This delay comes amidst challenging economic conditions, resulting in the company experiencing revenue decline in dollar terms for three consecutive quarters. TCS Variable Pay TCS has verified the disbursement of variable compensation. A company representative told ET that the eligibility requirements remain "in line with our standard practice across quarters". In an email communication to staff last week, chief human resources officer Milind Lakkad reportedly said, "All employees up to C2 grade (or equivalent grades) covered under the QVA plan will receive 100% of the Quarterly Variable Allowance (QVA). by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Providers are furious: Internet access without a subscription! At TCS, the hierarchical structure begins with Y grade for trainees, progressing to C1 for systems engineers, followed by C2, C3 – A&B, C4, C5, and culminates with CXOs. Staff members holding C3 positions and above are generally considered senior personnel. The leading IT services provider increased its workforce by 5,060 people during the quarter ending June, bringing its total employee strength to approximately 613,000. The TCS chief executive K Krithivasan spoke of ongoing challenges in Q1 in last week's earnings announcement, highlighting the persistent and heightened delays in decision-making and project initiations. He noted that global business operations faced disruptions stemming from conflicts, economic instability and supply chain complications. For software service providers, the ability to drive growth significantly depends on discretionary technology investments from their clients. Krithivasan expressed that whilst discretionary expenditure remains low across various sectors, he anticipates a recovery once the broader economic landscape becomes more definitive. IT crowned 2025's worst sector: Are TCS, HCL Tech no longer buy-and-hold stocks?

Long revered as the ultimate buy-and-hold stocks for long-term investors, largecap IT stocks are now losing their charm with the Nifty IT index becoming the worst performing sector by plummeting 14% this year amid slowing growth and AI-led tech disruption. The dramatic reversal has left sector bellwether TCS shares down 21% in 2025 and trading 30% below its 52-week high, with peers like Infosys, HCL Tech, and Wipro all posting double-digit losses. ADVERTISEMENT The sector's structural transformation has prompted a fundamental reassessment of investment strategy. HSBC delivered a stark warning that fundamentally changes the IT investment playbook: "IT stocks (especially top-tier IT companies) are no longer five-year buy-and-hold compounding stocks; they now require a lot more active management around their cycles/volatility," HSBC analysts wrote. "The long-term stock return trajectory gradient will not only be lower than in the past, but stocks will also be a lot more cyclical around this mean path." This represents a seismic shift for a sector that once delivered consistent compounding returns, now relegated to cyclical trading territory requiring active management. FII holding of IT Services has plunged to a 13-year low, while DII ownership has also fallen sharply recently. This massive institutional exodus has accelerated the sector's decline as smart money flees what were once considered India's safest large-cap bets. ADVERTISEMENT TCS's soft Q1 numbers crystallized investor fears, with revenue missing consensus estimates as it fell 3.3% quarter-on-quarter in constant currency terms. The disappointing performance from the sector leader confirmed that all Tier-1 players are expected to report muted constant currency quarter-on-quarter revenue growth in Headwinds Mount ADVERTISEMENT The sector faces a perfect storm of challenges that extend far beyond typical cyclical pressures. IT stocks are being battered by weak discretionary spending by clients, macro and geopolitical uncertainty, and AI-led tech disruption that threatens traditional business Global explained the revenue growth trajectory challenges: "The revenue growth trajectory for IT companies in the last few quarters was impacted by: i) slower client decision-making amid macro uncertainties, b) re-prioritization of spending, with increased focus on cost efficiencies and optimization, which usually have a slower revenue conversion cycle, and c) focus on projects with immediate RoI." ADVERTISEMENT "FY26 is expected to commence on a subdued note for IT players, as clients remain cautious on tech spending, particularly discretionary spending. Elevated macro and geopolitical uncertainty dampen the outlook for IT spending and could delay a broad-based recovery in client spending," Emkay analysts added. Also Read | Wipro, Infosys and other IT stocks fall as weak TCS results, macro uncertainty weigh on sentiment ADVERTISEMENT HSBC's medium-term outlook paints a sobering picture: "Growth for the sector has been low single digits in the past two years (FY24/25), owing to a high base, GCC expansion, GenAI ambiguity and above all weak/uncertain macro. FY26 is likely weak as well due to tariff impact. We maintain our long-standing expectation of 4-5% CAGR sector growth over the medium-to-long term. With a low base of three years (FY24-26), we expect a revival in FY27."This represents a dramatic comedown for a sector that once delivered high-teens growth rates veterans are increasingly bearish on largecap IT prospects. Samir Arora delivered a blunt assessment recently saying that IT services is not a great Street veteran Nischal Maheshwari sees limited hope in the near term: "Within the IT space, you have to look for the midcaps. There you might still look at a 10-12% kind of growth.'"We have still not seen demand coming back strongly in the US and till tariff issues get out of the way, I do not think so there is going to be a fresh commitment of any capex across the world. So, we have to wait for a couple of more quarters or at least for one more quarter before we are going to start seeing some demand coming back. So, the second quarter also is going to be a wash out only for IT," Maheshwari technical picture looks equally grim. Samco Securities identified a classic Head and Shoulders pattern: "The Nifty IT index is forming a classic Head and Shoulders pattern, a time-tested sign that often hints at trend exhaustion. After a strong rally, the left shoulder and head have already formed, and now the right shoulder is taking shape. The neckline sits around the 31,500 mark, acting as a crucial support. If the index breaks below this level, it could trigger a deeper correction.""What makes this more serious is the timing, global headwinds like rising US tech tariffs are adding pressure. This isn't just a chart pattern; it reflects both technical and fundamental stress. Watch closely, this pattern could be the market's way of ringing the bell before the party ends," Samco analysts James, Chief Market Strategist at Geojit Investments Limited, reinforced the bearish outlook: "Nifty IT index charts suggest strong selling pressure and a lack of buying interest. The weekly MACD histogram has formed a reversal candle, reinforcing the bearish sentiment. From a derivatives perspective, most constituent stocks have witnessed short additions on both daily and weekly timeframes, indicating sustained bearish positioning. This could potentially drag the index down towards the 37,050 level in the near term.""Any such recovery is likely to be met with renewed selling pressure. A sell on rise strategy may be employed," James verdict is increasingly clear: India's IT sector has entered a new era where the old rules of buy-and-hold investing no longer apply, forcing investors to fundamentally rethink their approach to what were once considered the market's most reliable compounders. HCL Tech shares tumble 3%. Buy the dip or sell? Jefferies says buy with Rs 1,850 target price

Shares of IT major HCL Technologies plunged over 3% to Rs 1,568.75 on BSE Tuesday, with investors spooked by a brutal 170 basis points quarter-on-quarter margin compression and management's decision to slash FY26 margin guidance by 100 basis points to 17-18%. ADVERTISEMENT Yet amid the carnage, global brokerage Jefferies stepped up with a contrarian upgrade to buy, setting a target price of Rs 1,850 as the firm raised its FY26 growth guidance to 3-5%, a move that could position HCL Tech as the fastest-growing company among India's top IT players. "We expect HCL Tech to deliver 10% EPS CAGR over FY26-28 -- the highest among Top-5 Indian IT firms. Superior growth outlook, similar FCF conversion and higher payouts should support valuation premium vs. TCS/Infosys," Jefferies said, cutting FY26/28 EPS estimates by up to 2%. The margin bloodbath was driven by a perfect storm of headwinds: a slower ramp-up of a large deal, which dragged utilization down by 80 basis points; a one-off client bankruptcy that shaved 30 basis points off margins; and aggressive investments in AI capabilities and sales and marketing, adding another 30 basis points of Jefferies sees light at the end of the tunnel. Despite net new deal wins falling 8% year-on-year to $1.8 billion—due to procedural delays in closing two large deals—the brokerage expects these to close soon. More crucially, HCL Tech has consolidated its wallet share in a large financial services client, which should boost revenues, even though it is not reflected in Total Contract Value (TCV) due to its time-and-materials structure. Also Read | IT crowned 2025's worst sector: Are TCS, HCL Tech no longer buy-and-hold stocks? ADVERTISEMENT 'Given high revenue visibility, HCLT has raised the lower end of its revenue growth guidance by ~100 bps to 3–5% YoY in constant currency. This implies a 0.7–2% CAGR over the rest of FY26, which looks achievable,' Jefferies noted, raising its revenue estimates by 2–3% on the back of favorable forex movements and a Q1 services brokerage expects HCL Tech to deliver a 5.8% year-on-year constant currency CAGR over FY26–28, with margins reverting to the 18–18.4% range by FY27/28, as management's focus on investments—'even at the cost of near-term margins'—is expected to support superior long-term growth prospects. ADVERTISEMENT Motilal Oswal joined the bullish chorus with a 'Buy' call and a target price of Rs 2,000, stating that 'HCLT is on track to be the fastest-growing company among the top four.'The domestic brokerage expects HCL Tech to clock a USD revenue CAGR of 7.0% and an INR PAT CAGR of 8.8% over FY25–27E, calling it 'the fastest-growing large-cap IT services company' with an attractive 'all-weather portfolio.' Also Read | HCLTech shares fall after Q1 profit drops 10% YoY to Rs 3,843 crore ADVERTISEMENT Nomura also retained its buy call with a Rs 1,810 target, though it lowered FY26-27F EPS by 2-5% and reduced the target price from Rs 1,840 earlier."We expect the Street to ignore near-term margin miss (as it is likely to reverse in FY27F) and focus on continued revenue outperformance. HCLT trades at 22.4x FY27F EPS," Nomura said. The contrarian bets by top brokerages signal confidence that HCL Tech's growth trajectory remains intact despite the margin turbulence, with the stock's valuation potentially attractive at current levels for investors willing to look beyond near-term headwinds.
