The FASTag annual pass will be launched across India next month on August 15. Introduced by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), the FASTag annual pass is claimed to benefit the users of state and national highways and expressways by reducing the overall travel costs. The annual pass is also claimed to provide hassle hassle-free travel experience. The FASTag annual pass will be available only for private vehicles and not for commercial vehicles. These passes will be valid to be use on designated national highway (NH) and national expressway (NE) fee plazas for one year or 200 transactions, whichever comes first, from the issuance date. There will be no per-trip charges issued to the user once he or she purchases an annual pass.
If you are among those who hit the national highways and national expressways frequently and pay a hefty sum as toll fees, the FASTag annual pass could be a good option for you. However, before you buy the pass, here is everything you must know to clear any doubts.
3 FASTag annual pass: How long can you use the pass?
The FASTag annual pass is valid for one year from the date of activation or 200 transactions, whichever comes first. To make it simpler, if you are buying the annual pass on August 15 this year, it will remain valid till August 14 next year or till you make 200 transactions at toll plazas across the country, whichever comes first. Once the annual pass completes either one year from the date of activation or 200 transactions, it will automatically transform back into a regular FASTag account. You can compare this with a prepaid mobile recharge plan with limited talk time and limited duration. If you want to avail the benefits of the annual pass after the expiry of the pass, then you will need to recharge the pass with ₹ 3,000 again, which will come with a validity of 200 transactions or one year.
4 FASTag annual pass: Which toll plazas will accept this?
The FASTag annual pass will be valid only at National Highway (NH) and National Expressway (NE) toll plazas. At the toll plazas on expressways, State Highways (SH), etc., which are managed by the state governments or local bodies, parking spaces, etc., the FASTag will operate as a regular one, and applicable user fee charges will applied.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited is working on making its cars safer for the Indian market. The latest one in the list to get the safety upgrade in the form of six airbags as a standard feature is the Fronx. The change has been implemented effectively immediately. With this change in place, the prices of the SUV will see an upward revision of 0.5 per cent. This comes following the availability of the feature on XL6, Baleno, Ertiga, and more. With this update, the Fronx is now included alongside other models in the Nexa and Arena lineup, such as the Ertiga, Baleno, Alto K10, Celerio, WagonR, Eeco, Swift, Dzire, Brezza, Grand Vitara, Jimny, and Invicto, all of which now feature six airbags as a standard specification. Earlier, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) had declared that all new passenger vehicles would be required to have six airbags as a standard feature by October 2025. Consequently, all original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in India have started making the necessary changes to their products. Before this, Maruti Suzuki had also announced that the Fronx had become the fastest vehicle in the country to reach 1 lakh export units. The SUV achieved the milestone within 25 months of launch. It is to be noted that the Fronx is manufactured in the brand's Gujarat facility and is exported to over 80 countries in Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, and Japan. The Maruti Suzuki Fronx made its debut in India in April 2023. By the fiscal year 2024-25, the brand had shipped more than 69,000 units of the Fronx, making it the top exported passenger vehicle in the country during that time. In addition to the Fronx, the list of the brand's most successful export models included the Jimny, Baleno, Swift, and Dzire. During this period, the company achieved its highest annual export volume ever, exceeding 3.3 lakh units, which represents a 17.5 percent rise compared to the prior fiscal year.

Nuh's ‘killer highway' to be redeveloped soon
In a move that promises to transform road connectivity in Nuh, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued a ₹325-crore tender for the construction of a 45-km-long four-lane national highway between Nuh and the Rajasthan border via Ferozepur Jhirka. (Archive) Talking about the infrastructural milestone, Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh said that the tender was floated on Friday and the project would be completed in two years. 'This highway will ease travel to Rajasthan and reduce road accidents, which have plagued this stretch for years. It is a long-awaited gift for Nuh,' he said. The 45-km stretch of newly built four-lane highway with paved shoulders, and 6.84-km of existing roads in Malab and Bhadas villages will be strengthened as part of the project. The highway will feature nine flyovers, six underpasses, and two major bypasses to ensure smooth movement and decongestion of traffic in residential areas. The project follows efforts by Rao Inderjit Singh, who raised the demand several times before Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari. Nuh is home to a large number of commercial drivers, mostly young men, who park their vehicles on the main Alwar-Gurugram Road, which frequently results in road accidents. At least 1,100 people have died on this stretch in more than 1,600 accidents in the last five years, according to the police. In 2017, locals labelled the stretch the 'khooni highway' (killer highway) after more than 2,500 deaths were reported in a 10-year period. So locals had long sought the highway's widening as a solution to the problem. The announcement sparked celebrations through Nuh on Friday. 'This is a historic moment. The foundation of this demand was laid back in July 2017 during a five-day dharna by Mewat RTI Manch. The struggle has finally borne fruit,' said Haji Mohammad Haroon, a local leader. Rajuddin, national president of Mewat RTI Manch, called it a victory of people's voice. 'The Congress government failed to act despite years of pleas. The BJP government has taken a bold step, and we hope this highway will be a milestone for the entire region,' he said. Local activists pointed out that the highway, infamously known as the 'killer highway' due to frequent accidents, has claimed countless lives in the past. 'Thousands from Mewat have died here over the years. Our movement began after repeated tragedies, and finally, our demands have been heard,' said Nasim Sarpanch of Santawadi. The ₹325-crore tender, released under Engineering, Procurement and Construction mode, includes ₹310.44 crore for construction and ₹40,000 as the tender fee. The Ministry has set a 24-month deadline for completion and a 60-month maintenance period. As the region gears up for the transformation, the people of Mewat see this as more than just a highway—it's a lifeline of progress, long overdue but finally on track.

India's top 10 states with longest National Highway network
National Highways in India: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) is continuously working to enhance India's infrastructure by undertaking several mission-mode projects. Currently, the country has a road network spanning over 63 lakh km. Of this, the total length of National Highways (NH) stands at 1,46,342 km. This marks a significant expansion from 91,287 km in March 2014, an increase of 55,055 km in the National Highway network over the past decade. In a written reply to Lok Sabha, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said: 'Length of National Highways (NH) network in the country has expanded from 91,287 km in March, 2014 to 146,342 km at present.' The Union Minister also added that the length of access-controlled National High Speed Corridors (HSC) / Expressways has increased from 93 km in March, 2014 to 5,110 km at present.
