Nuh's ‘killer highway' to be redeveloped soon
Talking about the infrastructural milestone, Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh said that the tender was floated on Friday and the project would be completed in two years. The 45-km stretch of newly built four-lane highway with paved shoulders, and 6.84-km of existing roads in Malab and Bhadas villages will be strengthened as part of the project. The highway will feature nine flyovers, six underpasses, and two major bypasses to ensure smooth movement and decongestion of traffic in residential areas.
The project follows efforts by Rao Inderjit Singh, who raised the demand several times before Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari.
Nuh is home to a large number of commercial drivers, mostly young men, who park their vehicles on the main Alwar-Gurugram Road, which frequently results in road accidents. At least 1,100 people have died on this stretch in more than 1,600 accidents in the last five years, according to the police. In 2017, locals labelled the stretch the 'khooni highway' (killer highway) after more than 2,500 deaths were reported in a 10-year period. So locals had long sought the highway's widening as a solution to the problem.
The announcement sparked celebrations through Nuh on Friday. 'This is a historic moment. The foundation of this demand was laid back in July 2017 during a five-day dharna by Mewat RTI Manch. The struggle has finally borne fruit,' said Haji Mohammad Haroon, a local leader.
Rajuddin, national president of Mewat RTI Manch, called it a victory of people's voice. 'The Congress government failed to act despite years of pleas. The BJP government has taken a bold step, and we hope this highway will be a milestone for the entire region,' he said.
Local activists pointed out that the highway, infamously known as the 'killer highway' due to frequent accidents, has claimed countless lives in the past. 'Thousands from Mewat have died here over the years. Our movement began after repeated tragedies, and finally, our demands have been heard,' said Nasim Sarpanch of Santawadi.
The ₹325-crore tender, released under Engineering, Procurement and Construction mode, includes ₹310.44 crore for construction and ₹40,000 as the tender fee. The Ministry has set a 24-month deadline for completion and a 60-month maintenance period.
As the region gears up for the transformation, the people of Mewat see this as more than just a highway—it's a lifeline of progress, long overdue but finally on track.

Jabil investing ₹2,000 crore in manufacturing in India: Ashwini Vaishnaw
NEW DELHI: US-based Jabil 's plant in Sanand, Gujarat, is nearing completion, said Union Minister of Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday. 'Jabil is investing more than ₹2,000 crore in manufacturing silicon photonics and electronic manufacturing services in India,' Vaishnaw said in a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday. 'Plant at Sanand is almost completed,' the minister added. Silicon photonics, which integrates light for high-speed communications in microelectronics, is set to cater to a wide array of sectors, including quantum computing, quantum communication, fifth-generation (5G) and 6G technologies, the Internet of Things (IoT), radar, and avionics. The American vendor had last year said that it is continuing to invest in silicon photonics-based products and capabilities, beyond 800G and 1.6T, to support the increasing demands of hyperscalers and next-wave cloud and AI data center growth. Jabil serves 300 of the biggest companies globally across sectors, including smartphones, cloud equipment, healthcare, to automotive and home appliances. It employs more than 1.4 lakh employees across 100 locations in over 25 countries. Swedish telecom gear maker Ericsson , via Jabil, manufactures 4G and 5G radios, RAN Compute as well as microwave equipment. Jabil is also a supplier to iPhone-maker Apple in India. Jabil Circuit , according to a recent PTI news agency report, has also emerged as the biggest beneficiary of the telecom production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme. It received ₹235.87 crore as an incentive in the two fiscal years FY23 and FY24. The Central government has disbursed ₹1,162 crore under the telecom PLI till March 31. This scheme, launched on April 1, 2021, aims to boost domestic manufacturing and self-reliance in the telecom sector. It will conclude by the end of the current fiscal year (FY26). Out of 42 companies shortlisted under the scheme, 21 manufacturers have successfully received the incentives so far. The government had earmarked ₹4,115 crore for the scheme to generate an estimated ₹2.45 lakh crore in additional sales and create over 44,000 new jobs during the tenure.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited is working on making its cars safer for the Indian market. The latest one in the list to get the safety upgrade in the form of six airbags as a standard feature is the Fronx. The change has been implemented effectively immediately. With this change in place, the prices of the SUV will see an upward revision of 0.5 per cent. This comes following the availability of the feature on XL6, Baleno, Ertiga, and more. With this update, the Fronx is now included alongside other models in the Nexa and Arena lineup, such as the Ertiga, Baleno, Alto K10, Celerio, WagonR, Eeco, Swift, Dzire, Brezza, Grand Vitara, Jimny, and Invicto, all of which now feature six airbags as a standard specification. Before this, Maruti Suzuki had also announced that the Fronx had become the fastest vehicle in the country to reach 1 lakh export units. The SUV achieved the milestone within 25 months of launch. It is to be noted that the Fronx is manufactured in the brand's Gujarat facility and is exported to over 80 countries in Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, and Japan. The Maruti Suzuki Fronx made its debut in India in April 2023. By the fiscal year 2024-25, the brand had shipped more than 69,000 units of the Fronx, making it the top exported passenger vehicle in the country during that time. In addition to the Fronx, the list of the brand's most successful export models included the Jimny, Baleno, Swift, and Dzire. During this period, the company achieved its highest annual export volume ever, exceeding 3.3 lakh units, which represents a 17.5 percent rise compared to the prior fiscal year.
