Bahrain Marks 51st Anniversary of Arab Parliamentary Union with Message of Unity and Cooperation
Chairman of Bahrain's Shura Council, Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, has praised the vital role played by the Arab Parliamentary Union in supporting key Arab issues and strengthening parliamentary ties among Arab nations. His comments came in a statement marking the 51st anniversary of the Union's founding.
Al Saleh extended his warm congratulations to Ibrahim Boughali, Speaker of Algeria's National People's Assembly and current President of the Arab Parliamentary Union, lauding his ongoing efforts to boost cooperation and coordination between Arab parliaments on shared concerns.
He emphasized that the Shura Council in Bahrain remains committed to deepening bilateral collaboration with other Arab legislative bodies and advancing unified stances on regional matters. 'Such efforts reflect the deep-rooted brotherly relations between Arab countries and our shared commitment to joint progress,' he noted.
The Shura Council chairman also congratulated Dr. Ahmed bin Alawi Baaboud, Secretary-General of the Arab Parliamentary Union, for his contributions to modernizing internal procedures and promoting greater coordination and efficiency within the Union's operations.
Al Saleh concluded by reaffirming Bahrain's commitment to continued engagement with the Arab Parliamentary Union, underscoring the importance of unity and cooperation in realizing the aspirations of the Arab people for development and prosperity.

Forums Proposals to establish forums for Arab women and youth MPs were approved. Reports from the Parliament's standing committees were also adopted for submission to the relevant authorities. Dr Adel Al Maawada, from Bahrain's Shura Council, took part in the session and contributed to the work of the committee on foreign, political, and security affairs. He said the meeting showed growing Arab engagement with core issues. 'The session discussed a number of key matters,' he said, 'including developments in Palestinian territories, regional tensions, the importance of maintaining the ceasefire, avoiding military conflict, and working to keep the region free of weapons of mass destruction.' Reports Members also reviewed reports from the legal, economic, social, and Palestinian affairs committees, as well as notes from the Rafah visit and a side meeting held during the Arab Summit in Baghdad. Other items on the table included plans for a conference on the blue economy, a draft law to address irregular migration, proposals to support social enterprises and home-run businesses, and steps to improve online education across the Arab world.

Call for Stability Dr. Al Maawda reaffirmed Bahrain's commitment to collaborative Arab parliamentary efforts aimed at preserving state sovereignty and regional security. The meetings, part of the Arab Parliament's fourth legislative term, focused heavily on the deteriorating security landscape following recent missile exchanges between Iran and Israel. The Arab Parliament's Foreign Affairs, Political Affairs and National Security Committee warned that continued military escalation could undermine the ceasefire and trigger humanitarian disasters across the region. Delegates called on all involved states to prioritise diplomacy over confrontation. Qatar Airspace Breach In a sharply worded statement, the committee condemned the recent breach of the sisterly State of Qatar's airspace, labelling it a violation of sovereignty and a breach of international law.
