A senior Arab parliamentarian has described the Gaza situation as a 'humanitarian disaster' following a visit to the Rafah crossing, as lawmakers, including Bahrain's Mamdouh Al Saleh and Dr Hisham Al Ashiri, met in Cairo for the closing session. Mohammed Al Yamahi, who chairs the Arab Parliament, said the visit laid bare the suffering in Gaza. He praised Egypt's efforts to deliver aid in coordination with the Egyptian Red Crescent, and urged the international community to act to end the violence and violations against Palestinians. The session, held at the Arab League headquarters, drew MPs from across the Arab world. Among them were the two Bahraini representatives, who reaffirmed their country's backing for the Palestinian cause. Leadership Dr Al Ashiri linked Bahrain's stance to the leadership of HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the continued support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. 'Bahrain's position is clear,' he said. 'The Palestinian people have a right to an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.' Al Saleh said the Kingdom's presence formed part of its effort to back Arab causes on the global stage. The session also saw the swearing-in of new members and the unopposed appointment of Saudi Shura Council member Saad bin Sulaib Al Otaibi as First Deputy Speaker. Forums Proposals to establish forums for Arab women and youth MPs were approved. Reports from the Parliament's standing committees were also adopted for submission to the relevant authorities. President Trump Hints More Nations Could Join Abraham Accords, Including Syria

U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested that additional countries may soon join the Abraham Accords, a series of normalization agreements between Israel and several Arab nations initiated during his administration. In a recent interview, Trump was asked whether any other countries had shown interest in joining the accords. He responded, 'Yes. So, we have some really great countries in there right now, and I think we're going to start loading them up because Iran was the primary problem.' White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt added that Syria could be among the next countries to join the agreement. 'The president is certainly hopeful that more countries in the region will sign on to the Abraham Accords,' she said on Thursday. Leavitt also noted that during a recent meeting between Trump and Syria's new President Ahmed al-Sharaa, Trump specifically requested Syria to consider joining the accords.

Arab Council urges all parties to exercise restraint

The Arab Parliament has warned that the fragile Iran-Israel ceasefire may be at risk of collapse, urging all parties to exercise restraint and uphold international law, as tensions across the Middle East continue to escalate. His Excellency Dr. Adel Abdulrahman Al Maawda, Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Affairs, Defence, and National Security Committee of Bahrain's Shura Council, delivered a strong message of caution while participating in the Arab Parliament's committee meetings in Cairo, held from Tuesday to Friday. Call for Stability Dr. Al Maawda reaffirmed Bahrain's commitment to collaborative Arab parliamentary efforts aimed at preserving state sovereignty and regional security. The meetings, part of the Arab Parliament's fourth legislative term, focused heavily on the deteriorating security landscape following recent missile exchanges between Iran and Israel. The Arab Parliament's Foreign Affairs, Political Affairs and National Security Committee warned that continued military escalation could undermine the ceasefire and trigger humanitarian disasters across the region. Delegates called on all involved states to prioritise diplomacy over confrontation. Qatar Airspace Breach In a sharply worded statement, the committee condemned the recent breach of the sisterly State of Qatar's airspace, labelling it a violation of sovereignty and a breach of international law. The condemnation aligns with growing concern among Gulf nations about unchecked military manoeuvres in the region's skies. The committee reiterated its long-standing position advocating for a Middle East free from all weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear arms. It emphasised that the ban must be universal and non-discriminatory to ensure peace and security across Arab states. Focus on Palestine and Sudan In parallel discussions, the committee reaffirmed the centrality of the Palestinian issue, calling for an end to the continued violations against the Palestinian people. It also addressed the worsening conflict in Sudan, urging all parties to cease hostilities and resume dialogue to preserve national unity. Dr. Al Maawda's participation in these discussions highlighted Bahrain's active role in shaping Arab consensus during a time of heightened volatility in the Middle East.
