has shifted its release date as Sony Pictures updates its theatrical schedule. Initially slated for spring, the film will now debut in the fall. The move positions it alongside Universal's Him and 20th Century Studios' Ella McCay. Meanwhile, the spring release calendar sees fewer major studio-wide openings, reshaping the box office landscape.
Sony Pictures has rescheduled the release of A Big Bold Beautiful Journey from May 9, 2025, to September 19, 2025.
Kogonada directs A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, featuring Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell. Sony previously scheduled the film to compete against Thunderbolts* in its second weekend but has now moved its release to open alongside Universal's Him and 20th Century Studios' Ella McCay. The supporting cast features Lily Rabe, Jodie Turner-Smith, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Hamish Linklater.
The film is described as 'an imaginative tale of two strangers and the extraordinary emotional journey that connects them.' It is written by Seth Reiss, known for The Menu, and produced by Imperative Entertainment's Bradley Thomas and Ryan Friedkin, along with Reiss and Youree Henley. Sony Pictures acquired the film in February 2024 at the European Film Market in Berlin.
The move leaves May 9 without a major studio-wide release. The only scheduled films for that date include IFC's Clown in a Cornfield, Vertical Entertainment's Fight or Flight, and Briarcliff Entertainment's Juliet and Romeo. Sources indicate Sony adjusted the release date to position the film in a marketplace where a female-led movie could stand out, as per Variety.
Kogonada directed After Yang before reuniting with Farrell for this project. Robbie last appeared in Asteroid City and Barbie in 2023. Farrell featured in HBO's The Penguin and The Banshees of Inisherin. 30West financed A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, and Sony Pictures is handling global distribution.

‘Avatar: Fire and Ash' trailer unveiled: New sequel features freaky new villain, Na'vi civil war

The giant blue aliens are back. And this time, they're battling a sexy, non-human baddie. The first trailer for 'Avatar: Fire and Ash,' the third chapter in director James Cameron's 16-year-old science-fiction franchise that hits theaters Dec. 19, was unveiled to the press on Monday at Disney's offices in New York and LA. Advertisement 4 Neytiri is back to fight again 'Avatar: Fire and Ash.' 20TH CENTURY STUDIOS And the movie's most striking addition is a freaky character named Varang, voiced by Oona Chaplin ('Game of Thrones'). Decked out in a spiky red-and-black headdress that brings to mind the Queen of Hearts from 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland,' she's the leader of the Ash Clan, a race of Na'vi that live up in the mountains around volcanoes. Advertisement Varang walks through a hot, gray landscape lit by magma and wields what looks like a flamethrower. Appearing to hold Jake and Neytiri's daughter Kiri (Sigourney Weaver) hostage in the promo, Varang evilly hisses at the girl who has a special connection to the spiritual being Eywa, 'Your goddess has no dominion here.' The wicked remark suggests that some Na'vi clans worship different entities — or none at all. Venomous Varang would be the first full-on Na'vi villain in the 'Avatar' franchise, which has so far pitted the citizens of Pandora against violent earthlings. Now, it's the 10-foot-tall aliens that are at each others' throats. Advertisement 'Varang is the leader of a people who have gone through an incredible hardship. She's hardened by that,' Cameron told Empire. 'She will do anything for them, even things that we would consider to be evil.' 4 While called 'Fire and Ash,' the movie doesn't forget the oceans of 'Way of Water.' Dylan Cole The trailer also hints at generational change. Young warrior Lo'ak (Britain Dalton) has seemingly grown close to Tsireya (Bailey Bass), the daughter of the sea clans leaders Tonowari (Cliff Curtis) and Ronal (Kate Winslet) that he was smitten with in the second movie. Advertisement Tsiereya touches his heart and says, 'The strength of the ancestors is here.' What a flirt. His parents Jake (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña), meanwhile, exchange parental sideways glances. 4 The Ash People live in a barren, volcano-filled landscape, as shown in this concept art. 20TH CENTURY STUDIOS Despite its title, 'Fire and Ash' also returns to the oceans of 'The Way of Water.' The whale-like Tulkun creatures are back. And so, of course, are the scaly flying Ikran. A cool new mode of aerial transport we haven't seen before is revealed in the trailer — giant jellyfish-esque sky-ships that are pulled along by floating hippos. It's unclear when the 'Fire and Ash' trailer will drop publicly, but Disney has a major wide release coming this weekend with Marvel's 'Fantastic Four: First Steps.' 4 The trailer also reveals cool Na'vi air-ships, as seen in this concept art. 20TH CENTURY STUDIOS 'Fire and Ash,' out Dec. 19, is one of the most hotly anticipated movies of the year. The first two chapters are respectively the No. 1 and No. 3 highest grossing films of all time — having raked in $5.2 billion at the worldwide box office. Advertisement Both were nominated for the Oscar for Best Picture, and the series spawned a successful theme park at Disney World's Animal Kingdom in Orlando, Florida. Cameron currently plans two more 'Avatar' films after 'Fire and Ash,' due out in 2029 and 2031.

Andy Sachs is back! Anne Hathaway shares 1st look at 'The Devil Wears Prada 2'

Hathaway posted a photo of herself in character on Monday morning. Anne Hathaway has officially reprised one of her chicest roles to date. The 42-year-old actress shared a first-look photo of herself in costume while filming The Devil Wears Prada 2. The photo, posted to Instagram on Monday, sees Hathaway in a pin-striped vest and matching trousers, which she paired with pointed-toe boots and a gold T-bar necklace. 'Andy Sachs 2025 #dwp2,' Hathaway captioned the photo. Hathaway was also seen filming the sequel on Monday. The actress, with her lightly tussled locks and rectangular shades, strutted down a New York City sidewalk in a sleeveless white top, unbuttoned black vest, light-washed denim skirt and Chanel slides. The Idea of You star shared a video on TikTok earlier that morning, with a subtle nod to the original film. Alongside the caption, 'Heading to work #dwp2,' Hathaway wears a blue sweater while brushing her teeth. Fans, of course, remember the famous cerulean blue monologue from the 2006 film. Confirmation that The Devil Wears Prada 2 is officially in the works came in June, when 20th Century Studios, the distributor for the original 2006 film, shared a 21-second clip on Instagram, which featured a pair of red stilettos with the devil's pitchfork as heels. The sequel is set to hit theaters on May 1, 2026. Based on the novel by Lauren Weisberger, the 2006 film follows recent journalism graduate Andy Sachs (Hathaway) as she's thrust into the fast-paced world of high fashion after becoming an assistant to Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), the cutthroat editor in chief at Runway magazine. Streep earned an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Miranda, who was famously modeled after Vogue's former editor in chief Anna Wintour. Nearly 20 years later, the sequel will focus on Priestly as she deals with the changing tides in fashion journalism and the decline of traditional magazine publishing. The indomitable editor will be forced to confront former assistant Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt), a now ultra-successful executive for a luxury group with financing that could determine the future of Runway magazine. Hathaway, Streep and Blunt aren't the only stars reprising their roles in the sequel. Stanley Tucci, who played Priestly's stylish left-hand man in the original film, Tracie Thoms, who portrayed the best friend of Hathaway's character, and Tibor Feldman, the chairman of Runway's parent company, will also return. New additions to the cast, according to Variety, include Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak, Pauline Chalamet and Kenneth Branagh, who will portray the husband of Streep's character. Fashion, unsurprisingly, is at the forefront of the original beloved film. As Andy grows more comfortable in her new position, so does her inclination to express herself sartorially. We soon see her swapping cerulean blue sweaters for head-to-toe Chanel. Fans of the original can expect standout, high-end style to play just as significant a role in the sequel. Production of The Devil Wears Prada 2 appears to be well underway, but Hathaway initially had low expectations of it ever coming to fruition. 'Probably not,' she told V Magazine in 2024. 'We all love each other, and if somebody could come up with a way to do it, I think we'd all be crazy not to. But there's a huge difference in the world now with technology, and one of the things about that particular story is it was about producing a physical object. Now with so much being digital, it would just be very different.' Solve the daily Crossword
