Himachal: Vikramaditya Singh meets Rajnath Singh, urges to declare Ghatasni-Shilha-Badhani-Bhubujot- Kullu road as national highway
He urged the declaration of the Ghatasni-Shilha-Badhani-Bhubujot-Kullu road as a National Highway, keeping in view its strategic significance.
He said that there was an urgent need for an alternative connectivity to the Pathankot-Manali-Leh NH, and this road would not only serve the purpose but also shorten the distance by about 55 kilometres.
'It would also provide a stable highway besides boosting tourism and strengthening the rural economy,' he added.
He urged Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to sanction the project. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh assured to provide all possible support to the state.
Earlier, on May 19, the Public Works Department (PWD) Minister of the Himachal Pradesh government said that the department was all set to start the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) stage four once it was approved by the Union government.
Vikramaditya Singh detailed Himachal Pradesh's progress under the PMGSY, highlighting key milestones achieved in road infrastructure in rural and remote areas of the state.'Our government made sustained efforts to strengthen the road network across Himachal, especially in remote and backwards regions where all-weather connectivity was crucial,' Singh said.
He reported that under PMGSY-III, 3,100 kilometres of roads and 43 bridges had already been sanctioned, with projects spread across Mandi, Kangra, and Hamirpur districts.'We executed PMGSY-III projects worth Rs 345 crore. Our goal was to complete these within 18 months. Already Rs 802 crore had been spent, and by the end of 2024-25, Rs 650 crore more was expected to be utilised out of the Rs 905 crore budget,' he said.
Singh further shared that meetings with the Minister of State for Rural Development had yielded positive responses. (ANI)

This additional honorarium is aimed at acknowledging their hard work and commitment during the intensive revision process."The Rs 6,000 incentive has been approved as a mark of appreciation for the tireless service of polling staff during this crucial campaign," said a statement issued by the CEO's office. Apart from this, SIR in Bihar is underway in full swing with the Booth Level Officers (BLOs), BLO Supervisors, all the election officials, BLAs appointed by the political parties and the volunteers working tirelessly at the grassroots level to ensure that no eligible elector is left out, according to a press release by the Election Commission of India's (ECI). As per the release, as of July 5 at 6.00 PM, 1,04,16 545 Enumeration Forms, i.e. 13.19 per cent of the total of 7,89,69,844 (nearly 7.90 crore) electors in Bihar who are enrolled as of June 24, 2025, have been received. The percentage of forms distributed has also increased to 93.57 per cent, with 7,38,89,333 forms already distributed. 77,895 BLOs are going house-to-house to help the electors fill out their Enumeration Forms and collect them. In a large number of cases, the BLOs are taking live pictures of the electors and uploading them, saving the electors the trouble of getting their pictures taken. The partially filled forms are also available for download on the ECI portal ( as well as on the ECINET App, and the filled forms can be uploaded by the elector themselves on the ECINET App. Additionally, 20,603 BLOs are being appointed for the smooth and timely completion of the process. Nearly 4 lakh volunteers, including government officials, NCC cadets, NSS members, etc., are also working in the field to facilitate the elderly, PwDs, sick and vulnerable populations in the SIR process. Besides, 239 EROs, 963 AEROs, 38 DEOs and the CEO of the state are at the ground level to facilitate the electors to submit their forms. 1,54,977 Booth Level Agents (BLAs) appointed by various political parties are also providing active support in the SIR process, as per the release.

Concern over too much money in too few hands
Ranchi: Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Saturday expressed concern over the "rising" number of poor, and said wealth was getting concentrated in the hands of some affluent people. There is a need for decentralisation of wealth, Gadkari said during an event in Nagpur, where he touched upon a range of issues, including agriculture, manufacturing, taxation and public-private partnerships in infrastructure development. "Slowly the number of poor people is increasing and wealth is getting centralised in the hands of some wealthy people. It should not happen," the road transport and highways minister said. The economy must grow in a manner that creates jobs and uplifts rural areas, he said. "We are looking at an economic option that will create jobs and (give a boost to the) growth of the economy. There is a need for decentralisation of wealth, and many changes have happened in that direction," he said. The senior BJP leader also credited former prime ministers P V Narasimha Rao and Manmohan Singh for adopting liberal economic policies but cautioned against unchecked centralisation. "We have to be worried about it," he added. Referring to India's economic structure, he pointed out the imbalance in sectoral contributions to GDP. "Manufacturing contributes 22-24 percent, services 52-54 percent, while agriculture, despite engaging 65-70 percent of the rural population, contributes only around 12 percent," he said. Invoking Swami Vivekananda, Gadkari said, "Philosophy cannot be taught to someone whose stomach is empty." He highlighted the evolving role of chartered accountants, Gadkari said, "CAs can be the growth engines of the economy. Our economy is changing rapidly. It is not only about filing income tax returns and GST submissions." Talking about the infrastructure development, Gadkari highlighted his own initiatives in the transport sector. "I was the one who started the Build-Operate-Transfer system for road construction," he claimed. There is no shortage of funds for road development, he added. Sometimes I say I do not have a fund crunch but I have a shortage of work," Gadkari said. "Now, we earn nearly Rs 55,000 crore through toll booths and in the next two years, our income will go up to Rs 1.40 lakh crore. If we monetise it for the next 15 years, we will have Rs 12 lakh crore. New toll will add more money to our coffers," he said. The minister also spoke about projects aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and investment. "We are constructing a rope of Rs 5,000 crore in Kedarnath. The contractor is ready to spend the amount and give Rs 800 crore royalty to the Union government. When the Uttarakhand government asked us to share the royalty, I asked whether they would also share the loss-making units," he said. On domestic investments, Gadkari said he has raised funds through Infrastructure Investment Trust (InvIT) bonds without foreign assistance. "I am not accepting money from foreign countries like Canada or the US. I will build roads from the money raised from the poor people of the country," he said, adding that the share which was at Rs 100 has now jumped to Rs 160 and people will get nearly 18 to 20 percent returns.
