A.P. Minister launches Danish road project in Banaganapalle
This advanced method from Denmark has already been used with success at Heathrow Airport in the U.K., the Dubai Metro and Germany's A7 highway, the Minister said.
He observed that the project is part of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu's vision to usher in modern and advanced technologies to the State. 'The government is ready to encourage and fund new ideas. This road at Banaganapalle is on a trial basis, and it will soon be expanded across the State' the Minister said.
He said that earlier, roads were traversed by heavy trucks carrying smaller loads. With the emergence of more factories in the cement and granite sectors, lorries often carry heavier loads, leading to faster damage to roads. 'Generally, the efficacy of a highway lasts only 3-4 years. But with this Danish technology, roads could be effective for a period running up to ten years' he said.
The Minister said the cost involved in building one km of such a road would be around ₹28 lakh.
Officials of the Roads and Buildings department said the new roads would use two kinds of fibre materials for a stronger surface and to prevent potholes, which are generally formed by the passage of heavy vehicles.
The Minister alleged that the previous YSRCP government had ignored road maintenance, and stalled providing matching grants for the new projects.
'The Chief Minister had toured Gujarat and Assam to study the latest technologies being used in the construction of modern roads. If this Danish-tech pilot project succeeds, it would be used across the State,' he said.

Public transport employees' union demands recruitment of staff, new buses
Andhra Pradesh Public Transport Department (AP PTD) Employees' Union on Friday urged the State government to approve recruitment of 10,000 staff and purchase 3,000 new buses for smooth implementation of the promised free bus travel scheme for women from August 15 in the State. AP set to launch pothole-free road project with Danish tech
Vijayawada: In a first-of-its-kind technology for road laying in the state, the roads and buildings (R&B) department is set to use the Danish Asphalt Reinforcing Fiber method for road construction. The govt will introduce the Denmark-based Danish Fibre Road construction method for the two-lane road between Mudigedu and Sanjamala. This project, costing 12.58 crore, will be constructed in the Banaganapalli constituency, represented by R&B minister BC Janardhan Reddy in Nandyal district, on a pilot basis starting Friday. Engineers from Danish Fibres AS will personally supervise the road construction process using the Danish Asphalt Reinforcing Fiber method between Mudigedu and Sanjamala in the Banaganapalli constituency. The Danish Asphalt Reinforcing Fiber is a unique, innovative, sustainable, and recyclable technology for reinforcing asphalt roads. It is designed to prevent 100% of potholes on asphalt roads, while also preventing cracks, rutting, and premature failures. This method extends the longevity of asphalt roads by 50% or more, thereby reducing maintenance costs. The Danish Asphalt Reinforcing Fiber is a high tensile strength synthetic fiber blend formulated with Aramid and Polyolefin fibers to reinforce asphalt mixes in both new roads and the rehabilitation of existing cracked roads. Minister Janardhan Reddy stated if the pilot project is successful, the technology will be implemented in all road construction projects across the state. The successful execution of the new technology in Andhra Pradesh will position the state as a pioneer in road construction, setting an example for the rest of the country.
