'Dear Mr. Amit Shah, will the 2027 Caste Census follow the Telangana model, or is India staring at another Jumla? The first caste census since 1931 has been officially notified. But we have questions. Big ones. And the country deserves answers,' the post on social media X read.
Tagore also questioned the government, asking if it was following the Telangana model or avoiding it for political convenience.
He also raised questions if the Census 2027 would release full caste data, including the OBCs or would it be another round of data collection.
'Will your government release the full caste data this time, including OBC sub-categorisation? Or will it be another round of data collection without justice?' the post further read.
Tagore also raised questions on what was stopping the Government from having a precise and transparent Census.
Furthermore, Tagore questioned if the 2027 Census would become a tool of justice or would be another headline.
'Will the 2027 Census become a tool of justice, or just another headline? Mr. Shah, history is watching. India is waiting. And the OBCs will not settle for optics without outcomes,' he further wrote.
Earlier in the day, the Central government notified that the Population census, the process of which will begin in March 2027.
As per a gazette notification released by the Ministry of Home Affairs, 'In exercise of the powers conferred by Section three of the Census Act 1948 and in suppression of the notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of Home Affairs dated March 26, 2018, the Central Government declared that a census of the population of India shall be taken during the year 2027, as per a circular released by the Ministry of Home Affairs.'
The notification said that the reference date for the census shall be March 1, 2027, except for the Union territory of Ladakh and the snow-bound non-synchronous areas of the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Marketing minister Rawal argued that the current system had been dominated by a few vested interests operating intermediary procurement centres. "Procurement and exports are unrelated. The system must be corrected. Farmers must get the benefit, not middlemen," he asserted, proposing the closure of all non-transparent procurement centres. Agriculture minister Kokate supported this view, stating, "All govt procurement should be routed through APMCs. Bacchu Kadu, who ended his fast following the state's assurance, reiterated that central agencies like the National Cooperative Consumers' Federation (NCCF) and NAFED should buy onions directly from markets or farmers, not from agents. "A base price of Rs24 per kg should be fixed immediately. Onion procurement from outside the APMC system must stop," he demanded. In the last procurement cycle, delays and poor storage conditions caused significant spoilage, with thousands of tonnes of onions rotting in godowns. Farmer groups have warned of a repeat if corrective steps are not implemented immediately.

For the first time, SC introduces OBC quota for staff recruitment
The Supreme Court has for the first time introduced reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in recruitment of its staff. This comes after the top court came out with a roster specifying the post-wise quota for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) in matters of recruitment and promotion. A gazette notification dated July 3 said that the Chief Justice of India, in exercise of the powers conferred by clause (2) of Article 146 of the Constitution, amended Rule 4A of the Supreme Court Officers and Servants (Conditions of Service and Conduct) Rules, 1961. As per the amended Rule 4A, 'Reservation in direct recruitment to various categories of posts specified in the Schedule, for the candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, Physically Challenged, Ex-servicemen and dependant of Freedom Fighters shall be in accordance with the Rules, orders, and Notifications issued from time to time by the Government of India in respect of posts carrying the pay scale corresponding to the pay scale prescribed for the post specified in the Schedule, subject to such modification, variation or exception as the Chief Justice may, from time to time, specify.' Though the court had a quota for SC/STs, the Rules did not have any provision for OBC quota. Now, it has happened for the first time under CJI B R Gavai. The roster specifying post-wise quota for SCs/STs was done in keeping with the five-judge Constitution Bench ruling in R K Sabharwal vs State of Punjab in 1995. The ruling said that in government appointments, reservation should be post-based (based on the number of posts in a cadre) and not vacancy-based (based on the number of vacancies arising in a given year). The judgment also said there should be separate rosters for direct recruitment and promotion. Under the roster, a post identified for a particular category will continue to remain with it even after the retirement of the person holding the post.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Saturday said he was encouraged by the rally against Hindi imposition in Mumbai led by Uddhav Thackeray and his speech on the issue. 'The anti-Hindi movement launched by the people of Tamil Nadu and the DMK has crossed the State borders and has sparked a storm in Maharashtra,' he said in a message on his X page. He stated that the BJP government, which had made teaching Hindi a precondition for allocating funds to Tamil Nadu, backed down after the people of Maharashtra raised their voices against Hindi imposition. Mr. Stalin said the BJP-led Union government had no response to the question posed by Raj Thackeray, the cousin of Mr. Uddhav Thackeray, at the event. 'What is the third language for Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, or Rajasthan? All Hindi-speaking States lag behind us in development. Yet, we are being forced to learn Hindi,' Mr. Stalin quoted Mr. Raj Thackeray as saying. 'Vindictive policy' The Chief Minister questioned whether the BJP government would reconsider its vindictive policy against Tamil Nadu. 'It has said it would release ₹2,152 crore only if Tamil Nadu accepts the National Education Policy,' he said. Mr. Stalin emphasised that the struggle of the Tamil people against the imposition of Hindi was rational and aimed at protecting India's pluralism.
