Anti-Hindi war creates a storm in Mumbai, says CM Stalin

The Hindua day ago
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Saturday said he was encouraged by the rally against Hindi imposition in Mumbai led by Uddhav Thackeray and his speech on the issue. 'The anti-Hindi movement launched by the people of Tamil Nadu and the DMK has crossed the State borders and has sparked a storm in Maharashtra,' he said in a message on his X page.
He stated that the BJP government, which had made teaching Hindi a precondition for allocating funds to Tamil Nadu, backed down after the people of Maharashtra raised their voices against Hindi imposition.
Mr. Stalin said the BJP-led Union government had no response to the question posed by Raj Thackeray, the cousin of Mr. Uddhav Thackeray, at the event. 'What is the third language for Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, or Rajasthan? All Hindi-speaking States lag behind us in development. Yet, we are being forced to learn Hindi,' Mr. Stalin quoted Mr. Raj Thackeray as saying.
'Vindictive policy'
The Chief Minister questioned whether the BJP government would reconsider its vindictive policy against Tamil Nadu. 'It has said it would release ₹2,152 crore only if Tamil Nadu accepts the National Education Policy,' he said. Mr. Stalin emphasised that the struggle of the Tamil people against the imposition of Hindi was rational and aimed at protecting India's pluralism.

New RCA ad hoc panel springs into action

Jaipur: The newly appointed Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) ad hoc committee got off to a brisk start on its first day, assuming charge here on Sunday. Led by convenor Deendayal Kumawat and joined by members Dhananjai Singh Khimsar, Pinkesh Porwal, Ashish Tiwari and Mohit Yadav, the committee moved swiftly, dissolving all previous committees and sub-committees formed by former convenor, BJP MLA Jaideep Bihani, with immediate effect. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The new panel's actions signal a fresh start for RCA, aiming to address the fallout from Bihani's tenure, which was plagued by accusations of mismanagement and political overreach. Speaking on being appointed as the new coordinator, Kumawat thanked chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, sports minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and cooperation minister Gautam Kumar Dak for entrusting the committee with revitalising Rajasthan cricket. "Our focus is to resolve disputes, ensure transparency and prioritise cricket," he told the media. In its first meeting, the committee unanimously made several key decisions: revoking the Lokpal and ethics officer appointments made by Bihani 'without consensus' to address procedural concerns raised in prior reports; announcing a comprehensive review of RCA's financial operations to ensure accountability, following allegations of mismanagement under the previous panel; and bring RCA's sports activities back on track. Moreover, in a gesture of goodwill, the committee welcomed the Jaipur team, winners of the Colvin Shield state-level senior cricket competition, to the RCA Academy, and presented them with the shield. Bihani condemns new committee's decisions: Bihani stated that the general body's decisions cannot be altered again by the ad hoc committee, as per the Rajasthan Sports Act 2005. He emphasised that only the general body has the authority to make or change decisions, accusing the current panel of violating RCA's constitution. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now He claimed the ad hoc committee's role is limited to conducting elections and criticised its overreach, vowing to expose the political interference behind these moves. He further stated that he would fight against the corrupt district associations and demanded a government agency investigate the corruption, questioning the sudden opening of the RCA office at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium.

Actor-BJP neta dares: ‘I don't speak Marathi. Throw me out'

Mumbai: Looking to turn the tables on the Thackeray cousins, has raised the issue of Marathi vs north Indians and Gujaratis as it seeks to consolidate its voters among non-Marathi communities. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now On Saturday, former BJP MP from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh and Bhojpuri actor , also known as Nirahua, waded into the language controversy, saying no one should indulge in such dirty politics. "The beauty of India is its unity in diversity. No one should do such dirty politics. I am a politician and an actor. Politics must be for the good of people. Mein Marathi nahin bolta. Kisi mein dum hai toh mujhe se nikaal ke dikhaaye (I do not speak Marathi. I challenge them to throw me out of Maharashtra)," said Yadav. Earlier, share market investment analyst Sushil Kedia had also challenged MNS, which is spearheading the agitation against the introduction of Hindi as a third language in schools, saying neither does he know Marathi nor will he speak it. After his office was vandalised on Satuday, he apologised. The Thackeray cousins joined political forces over the "imposition" of Hindi in schools and scored a victory over BJP when CM Devendra Fadnavis withdrew two govt resolutions that allowed Hindi to be taught in school from Class 1 as a third language. With local body elections likely to be held later this year, BJP, which is keen to win the BMC elections, has been quick to work to consolidate the north Indian voters who have not forgotten the thrashing that many from their community in Mumbai were subjected to at the hands of MNS several years ago. Fadnavis, while saying they were proud of Marathi, came down heavily on those opposing Hindi, which he said is also an Indian language. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Mumbai metropolitan region, which has 11 municipal corporations, has a significant Hindi-speaking north Indian population from UP, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. There is a strong and influential Gujarati population in Mumbai and Thane. Meanwhile, in Solapur, BJP minister Girish Mahajan said many MLAs and MPs from Sena (UBT) are in touch with him and they do not trust Thackeray's leadership. "The results of the upcoming zilla parishad, panchayat samiti, and municipal elections will show how much public trust each leader holds," he said. (With inputs from agencies)

MPCC vice-president slams Biren, accuses him of ‘misleading people'

1 2 Imphal: Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee ( MPCC ) vice-president Hareshwar Goswami has termed the statement of former chief minister N Biren Singh regarding his hope of bringing a popular govt in Manipur soon as 'misleading the people'. Making a scathing attack on Singh, the MPCC vice-president accused him of repeatedly misleading the people and distorting facts for political gain. Goswami made the remarks during a press conference on Sunday while defending the Congress against allegations made by BJP leaders regarding the imposition of Emergency in 1975. Referring to Singh's recent comment that a "popular govt will soon return to Manipur," Goswami criticised the statement as hypocritical and disconnected from the prevailing crisis in the state. Goswami said the current chaos is the result of the BJP-led administration's failure to ensure peace, governance and unity. He also defended the national Emergency declared by the then Congress Prime Minister Indira Gandhi from 1975 to 1977, calling it a constitutional decision taken under Article 352 of the Indian Constitution. The MPCC vice-president also reminded that this was the third national Emergency after the one imposed in 1962 during the India-China war and the first internal emergency declared in 1975 due to grave threats to national security, internal stability and economic crisis. Goswami argued that the emergency was declared under constitutional provisions with due process and was justified in the context of the times, unlike the present situation where, according to him, the Centre has failed to respond adequately to one of the worst humanitarian crises in Manipur's recent history. Without sparing the central BJP leadership, Goswami also accused PM Narendra Modi of lacking empathy and compassion. "While Manipur bleeds, the Prime Minister finds time to travel around the world," he said. Further, Goswami accused the Union home minister Amit Shah of lying to the public, regarding the promises of peace and reconciliation in Manipur. "Amit Shah came to Manipur and left with a promise that peace will return within 15 days. It's been more than 2 years now. Where is his promise?" he questioned. Goswami asked the people to see through the alleged falsehoods of the BJP and urged collective efforts to restore democracy, unity, and a government that genuinely represents the people's will.
