Kolkata: In run upto to 2026 assembly polls, Leader of Opposition (LoP)
Suvendu Adhikari
on Thursday emphasized on the need of booth-level strengthening and door-to door outreach, instead of overwhelming dependence on social media, and
Hindu vote
rekindling across the state.
Adhikari said in 2021, 68% Hindus voted and BJP will have to increase it to 80%, in order to bridge the 4-5% gap to victory.
Adhikari said that 50 lakhs members have been added since October 27. Among them, 50,000 were adult members. 'Yet we have not met the target,' he added.

In a detailed description on how the booth level workers and youth , who directly work for the party, at the grassroot levels, were tortured and harassed, Adhikari said, 'After 2021 polls, one lakh BJP workers became homeless while 57 BJP activists became martyrs. It was due to the impact of post-poll violence which followed the 2021 assembly polls.'
However, the organizational network was rebuilt after that in the last several months. 'BJP's primary membership drive was done with photos of the candidates and all electronic data,' Adhikari pointed out.

Guiding the party workers about the state-wide outreach, Adhikari said, 'The party's work and activities should not be Kolkata-centric. It should spread from Digha to Darjeeling. Common people should be part of it. Local level workers and party activists should be more active. Hindu population should be part of the drive,' Suvendu Adhiakri said.
Adhikari said that Malda, Murshidabad to Maheshtala, women's safety has been at stake. "Women's safety is at stake in Bengal and women and daughter's safety is at stake," Adhikari said.
Adhikari gave a call to oust the
Mamata Banerjee government
and said in last elections 68% Hindus voted for BJP and it should be increased to 80 percent.
'We have formed governments in Maharashtra, Haryana, Rajasthan and kept our promises in those states. We will keep such promises if voted to power in this state,' Adhikari said, adding that BJP had lost 12 seats due to cross voting by the CPI-M in 2024.

China to impose anti-dumping tariffs on EU brandy

China to impose anti-dumping tariffs on EU brandy(AP PHOTO) China said it will impose "anti-dumping" taxes of up to 34.9 percent on brandy imported from the European Union starting from Saturday, adding to tensions between the major trading partners. Beijing launched an investigation last year into EU brandy, months after the bloc undertook a probe into Chinese electric vehicle (EV) subsidies. It later said it had determined in a preliminary ruling that dumping had occurred and imposed "temporary anti-dumping measures" on imports of the alcoholic beverage. And Beijing's commerce ministry said on Friday that China's tariff commission had "decided to impose anti-dumping duties on imports of relevant brandy originating in the EU from July 5, 2025". "The investigating authority finally ruled that there was dumping of relevant brandy imported from the EU," the ministry said in a statement. "The domestic relevant brandy industry was threatened with substantial damages, and there was a causal relationship between the dumping and that threat," it said. The levies will apply to brandy in containers of less than 200 litres, according to the ministry. It said the tax rate on French liquor giant Jas Hennessy would be 34.9 percent. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Remy Martin will be hit with 34.3 percent and Martell 27.7 percent. The levies come as Chinese top diplomat Wang Yi has held fraught meetings with his counterparts during a tour of Europe this week. And they will likely be high on the agenda when he meets French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot on Friday afternoon in Paris. - Bitter taste - A trade spat between Beijing and the bloc erupted last summer when the EU moved towards imposing hefty tariffs on EVs imported from China, arguing that Beijing's subsidies were unfairly undercutting European competitors. Beijing denied that claim and announced what were widely seen as retaliatory probes into imported European pork, brandy and dairy products. The EU imposed extra import taxes of up to 35 percent on Chinese EV imports last October. Beijing later lodged a complaint with the World Trade Organization, which said in April that it would set up an expert panel to assess the EU's decision. China is a major market for French cognac, with exports worth 1.4 billion euros ($1.6 billion) per year. The anti-dumping measures are costing the industry 50 million euros per month. China and the EU are scheduled to hold a summit this month to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties. But the festivities come at a time of strained relations, with the trade tensions compounded by Beijing's position on the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which Brussels says shows tacit support for Moscow.

Photo: @Naveen_Odisha on X via PTI Photo) New Delhi: Senior officials of the Odisha Administrative Services (OAS) have gone on mass leave in more than 20 districts to protest against the assault of a senior officer of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) earlier this week. On Monday (June 30), BMC additional commissioner Ratnakar Sahoo, was assaulted by a group of men who demanded that Sahoo apologise to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Jagannath Pradhan. The police have arrested five persons in connection with the matter including BMC corporator Jeevan Rout. BJP's Odisha unit has also suspended five of its workers, including Rout, for their purported involvement in the assault. The Odisha Administrative Service Association announced the mass leaves and placed three non-negotiable demands before the Mohan Majhi government. The association has asked for Pradhan's immediate arrest, security provisions for all field-level executive officers and a public condemnation of the attack from the state government. The association has also submitted a memorandum, calling Pradhan the 'prime accused and kingpin' behind the attack, to Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja. 'Considering the widespread discontentment of all the members of the Association working across the state, it has been decided that all OAS officers will continue to be on leave until the demands are met,' the memorandum said. On Tuesday, Pradhan had blamed Sahoo for misbehaving with him and a woman sanitation worker, which led to the assault. Pradhan later condemned the assault, the Indian Express has reported. While Odisha revenue minister Suresh Pujari has urged officers to return to work in light of the ongoing Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath and the flood-like situation in the state's northern districts, the officers' body has said that the incident has hit the morale of officers across the state. Asian or African American: NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani identifies as 'an American who was born in Africa'; college application stirs controversy

NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani identifies as 'an American who was born in Africa'; college application stirs controversy Democratic socialist New York City mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani identified himself as both 'Asian' and 'Black or African American' on his 2009 application to Columbia University, the New York Times reported on Thursday. The 33‑year‑old, then a 17‑year‑old high‑school senior, ticked the two racial categories and wrote 'Ugandan' in a free‑response section, but was ultimately not admitted to the Ivy League college. Born in Kampala to Indian film‑maker Mira Nair and Ugandan academic Mahmood Mamdani, he spent parts of his childhood in Uganda, South Africa and the United States before becoming a naturalised US citizen in 2018. Now campaigning to become New York's first Muslim and South Asian mayor, Mamdani told that he does not see himself as Black or African American, but rather 'an American who was born in Africa'. 'Most college applications don't have a box for Indian‑Ugandans,' he said. 'So I checked multiple boxes trying to capture the fullness of my background.' Columbia's form at the time allowed standard racial checkboxes and an additional field for detail, which Mamdani used to specify 'Ugandan'. He said he completed all his college applications in the same way and recalled no other instance in which he described himself as Black or African American. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esse novo alarme com câmera é quase gratuito em São Paulo (consulte o preço) Alarmes Undo His parents are of Indian descent. Mamdani's racial identity has drawn attention. At a rally on Wednesday, President Donald Trump invoked Mamdani, warning that 'if he interferes with immigration laws, we'll have to arrest him.'
