The Texas Rangers have been one of the more disappointing teams in baseball.
After winning the World Series in 2023, they've fallen off a cliff. As of now, Texas looks to be sellers at the trade deadline and it could entertain the idea of trading a few valuable pieces away if the price is right.
Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter recently listed Rangers outfielder Adolis García as a potential "buy low trade target" for contending teams with holes in the outfield.

ARLINGTON, TEXAS - JULY 01: Adolis García #53 of the Texas Rangers hits a two RBI single during the third inning against the Baltimore Orioles at Globe Life Field on July 01, 2025 in Arlington, Texas. More"Over his first three full seasons in the majors, he posted a 113 OPS+ while averaging 30 doubles, 32 home runs, 99 RBI and 4.0 WAR, earning All-Star selections in 2021 and 2023," Reuter wrote. "He also took home 2023 ALCS MVP honors while helping lead the Rangers to a World Series title.
"He took a step backward last season with a 96 OPS+ and 0.3 WAR in 154 games, though he still tallied 25 home runs and 85 RBI. Things have continued to trend in the wrong direction this year. Despite the middling production, he still ranks among the MLB leaders in average exit velocity (93.4 mph, 94th percentile). Perhaps a change of scenery could jump-start his season."
There are plenty of teams around the league who could use a slugger like García this season. The San Diego Padres, Philadelphia Phillies, Cincinnati Reds, and Kansas City Royals all come to mind.
But it might not make the most sense for the Rangers to trade him now. He has a few years left of team control, and Texas is seemingly trying to put the pieces together to win. While it hasn't worked out this year, Texas is a few moves away from contending next season.

Michigan football surprisingly loses out on 4-star to Texas Tech

The post Michigan football surprisingly loses out on 4-star to Texas Tech appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Michigan football team has been on fire on the recruiting trail lately, but they did miss out on a recruit on Wednesday. A lot of people expected four-star safety Donovan Webb to commit to the Wolverines, but when he announced his decision, he picked Texas Tech. This is a big get for the Red Raiders, and while it's disappointing for head coach Sherrone Moore and Michigan, Texas Tech definitely needed this one more. Advertisement 'BREAKING: Four-Star Safety Donovan Webb has Committed to Texas Tech, he tells me for @rivals,' Hayes Fawcett said in a post. 'The 6'0 185 S from Frisco, TX chose the Red Raiders over Michigan, Kansas State, & Notre Dame.' Donovan Webb is a Texas native, so it makes sense that he wants to stay in-state. He had a message for Texas Tech football fans upon his commitment. 'West Texas, I'm home!' He said. Webb is a four-star recruit, according to 247Sports' composite rankings. He is the #349 player in the 2026 recruiting class, #30 safety and the #46 player in the state of Texas. Webb currently attends Panther Creek High School in Frisco, TX. The Michigan football team recruited him hard, but it couldn't secure the commitment. Advertisement 'Ultra-productive safety prospect with three-phase playmaking experience,' Webb's scouting report reads. 'Possesses requisite physical traits for the back end of the defense, pushing 6 feet, 180-185 pounds with plus length. Volume tackler with passing game impact as well, as evidenced by consecutive 100-tackle seasons and nine INTs/19 breakups across soph-junior campaigns. Displays impressive athleticism as a return game threat (two TDs as a junior). Ball-hawking safety archetype who looks for the big play.' The Michigan football team was hoping to land a player with NFL potential, but instead, that's what Texas Tech is getting. 'Made significant speed marker improvements on the track in Spring 2025 that hopefully help to unlock more explosiveness on the gridiron,' the scouting report adds. 'Plays a hyper-competitive style. That showed across multiple days of top performers-worthy recognition at the 2025 Texas 7on7 Championships in June. Sometimes can get too over-aggressive and handsy in coverage. Lacks a full catalog of testing data for more athletic context, but promising junior track times help. Projects as a high-major safety with possible role versatility depending on down-and-distance situations. Arrow seems to point up entering senior season with the potential to become a multi-year starter with NFL Draft upside.' The good news for Michigan is that its 2026 recruiting class is in fantastic shape. The Wolverines currently have one of the top recruiting classes in the country, and more commitments are expected to roll in later this week. Sherrone Moore will likely sign another top-10 class this year. WR Kaydon Finley chooses Notre Dame over father's alma mater Texas

Four-star receiver Kaydon Finley committed to Notre Dame over Texas on Friday night as the Irish pulled off a recruiting trick that's been virtually impossible, taking a Longhorns legacy out of the Lone Star State. Finley's father, tight end Jermichael Finley, starred in Austin before a six-year career with the Green Bay Packers that included a Super Bowl win. Advertisement Notre Dame will open Finley's freshman season at Lambeau Field, where his dad starred in his professional career, against Wisconsin. Finley's commitment is Notre Dame's 23rd this cycle, with the Irish haul ranked in the top five on all four major services. Finley is the second receiver in the class and could be the first of three to fall to Notre Dame this weekend. The Irish are expected to land Devin Fitzgerald on Saturday, and Brayden Robinson is scheduled to commit on Sunday. Fitzgerald is the son of legendary former NFL wideout Larry Fitzgerald, an 11-time Pro Bowler who spent his entire 17-year career with the Arizona Cardinals. A weekend sweep would give Notre Dame four wideouts in the class — Bubba Frazier of Savannah, Ga., committed in April — as assistant Mike Brown continues the long rebuild of a position group that's struggled to keep up with other College Football Playoff contenders. In their past 10 recruiting classes, the Irish have signed 30 receivers and have produced more draft picks at defensive back (two) from that group than actual wideouts (one). Chase Claypool is the last receiver signed by Notre Dame who developed into an NFL draft pick, 10 recruiting cycles ago. The Irish turned Cam Hart (cornerback) and Xavier Watts (safety) into draft picks after position switches. During that barren run, Notre Dame has signed just three Top 100 overall prospects at receiver. Sophomore Cam Williams is expected to be a reserve this season. Jordan Johnson transferred to Central Florida after his freshman year and didn't play at future stops. Kevin Austin's career was stunted by injury before becoming an undrafted free agent. Finley will hope to buck that trend, with the Irish projecting he turns out more like junior Jaden Greathouse, another four-star prospect signed out of Texas. Greathouse led the Irish with 592 receiving yards last season on 43 catches with four touchdowns. The Irish haven't had a wide receiver lead the team in receptions, since Claypool's senior year, six seasons ago. Claypool was also Notre Dame's last 1,000-yard receiver. Advertisement Considering his NFL heritage and prep production — Finley posted 81 catches for 1,432 yards and 21 touchdowns at Aledo last season — he's a good bet to reverse some of those trends. In addition to Notre Dame and Texas, Finley also listed offers from Texas A&M, Georgia, Miami, Oregon and Penn State. The 6-foot, 200-pound athlete is a unanimous four-star prospect across the four services, ranging from No. 93 overall on Rivals to No. 216 overall on 247 Sports. He's also the 13th Top 200 overall prospect to commit to Notre Dame, per the 247 Sports Composite. The Irish have never signed more than a dozen Top 200 overall prospects, per the 247 Sports Composite, in a single class during the Rivals/247 era. Notre Dame signed 12 Top 200 prospects in the 2013 and 2006 classes, both regarded as the high-water marks for Brian Kelly and Charlie Weis. With two more receivers likely to commit this weekend, and three-star safety Nick Reddish and four-star defensive lineman Elijah Golden scheduled to make announcements later this month, this haul built by Marcus Freeman could be the best since Lou Holtz.

Astros get Shohei Ohtani news ahead of Dodgers series

The Houston Astros are in the middle of a very strong season so far. A huge reason for their success is their two staff aces in Spencer Brown and Framber Valdez. Both will be tested when they face the Los Angeles Dodgers over the weekend. During that weekend Dodgers series, the Astros will send Valdez out on the mound on Saturday, July 5th. On the mound for the Dodgers is officially going to be Shohei Ohtani, according to Chandler Rome of The Athletic. While Ohtani doesn't go deep into games yet in his return from injury, the matchup against Valdez will be a very exciting one. Both, at their best, are among the best pitchers in the game. Advertisement This season, Ohtani has pitched just four innings, but has a 2.25 ERA and three strikeouts. In comparison, Valdez has 109 innings pitched with 108 strikeouts and a 2.72 ERA. MORE: Astros call up former Mets, Red Sox, Braves infielder Houston is no stranger to facing Ohtani, as the former Los Angeles Angels superstar made 13 starts against the Astros. In those starts, Ohtani had a 4.01 ERA and a 3-6 record. Across 67.1 innings pitched against the Astros, Ohtani struck out 88 batters and walked 25. He also isn't at his best as a hitter, as he has a .238 batting average and 15 home runs through 83 games against the Astros as a batter. Advertisement The Astros are set to face off against Ohtani for his fifth start since coming off Tommy John surgery. It's the first time Ohtani will face the Astros as a member of the Dodgers, a team the Astros have a deep connection with after their World Series win in 2017. While Ohtani likely won't match Valdez's innings pitched (barring a disaster), the matchup is one of the best in baseball over the weekend. MORE MLB NEWS:
