iOS 26 Update Can Wait: Apple Brings iOS 18.6 Beta For iPhone Users With These Features

News184 days ago
Last Updated:
iOS 18.6 beta has come out for iPhone users as Apple sets the base for the iOS 26 version with the developer version for now.
iOS 26 version is still in the developer beta stages but Apple has one last iOS 18 iteration rolling out, most likely in the early weeks of July. The iOS 18.6 beta has made its way to iPhone users in recent days, which ideally should be closing the curtains on the current version as Apple prepares for the biggest iOS 26 update when the iPhone 17 series launches this year.
The iOS 18.6 beta is available for your iPhone if you have signed up for the iOS beta program.
iOS 18.6 Beta Update: What iPhone Users Get
The iOS 18.6 beta update is as heavy as the last iOS 18 versions, with the download size of well over 7GB that you can install via Wi-Fi and takes a little longer than usual to update and work.
So does the heavy update come loaded with features? We have not seen any new notes for features with the iOS 18.6 beta update, and primarily seems to be focused on bug fixes and giving further stability to the OS in general.
To be fair, we are not shocked by the lack of new features on offer with the iOS 18.6 beta, which might change with version 18.6.1 or 18.6.2 update. But with Apple already starting the iOS 26 developer betas and the public beta expected in July for a wide range of iPhones, we don't expect much to change with the last of the iOS 18 updates.
iOS 26 Beta On Its Way
It is intriguing to see the iPhone SE 2nd gen model included in the support list but if you want the latest Apple AI features, you will need to have the iPhone 15 Pro or newer models.

Quiet Chinese game disrupts iPhone production in India

Apple's iPhone production in India faces disruption as Foxconn experiences a significant withdrawal of Chinese engineers from its Indian facilities, impacting the ramp-up for iPhone 17 manufacturing. This exodus, influenced by China's efforts to restrict technology transfer and skilled labour exports, threatens Apple's ambitious goals to shift iPhone production to India amidst rising geopolitical tensions and supply chain diversification efforts. Apple's largest iPhone manufacturer has recently recalled over 300 Chinese engineers and technicians from its Indian production facilities. The mass withdrawal, which began two months ago, leaves only Taiwanese support staff at Foxconn's southern India plants. The exodus comes as a major disruption to Apple's India expansion strategy, particularly as Foxconn constructs a new iPhone assembly facility in the region. While product quality may remain unaffected, assembly line efficiency could suffer during the critical ramp-up period for next-generation iPhone production. Beijing officials have quietly pressured regulatory agencies and local governments to restrict technology transfers and skilled labour exports to India and Southeast Asia, Bloomberg reported. This coordinated effort aims to prevent Chinese companies from relocating manufacturing capabilities to competing nations amid escalating US-China trade tensions. The strategy extends beyond personnel, encompassing specialized equipment and technical know-how essential for high-tech manufacturing. China's actions come as countries like India and Vietnam aggressively court global technology companies seeking to diversify their supply chains away from Chinese dependence. Apple CEO Tim Cook has consistently emphasized the irreplaceable expertise of Chinese assembly workers, describing their skills as fundamental to maintaining production standards beyond mere cost considerations. India currently produces one-fifth of global iPhone output, a remarkable achievement considering large-scale assembly began just four years ago. Apple had targeted manufacturing most US-bound iPhones in India by late 2026, a timeline now facing potential delays due to the technical expertise shortage. The development highlights the complex challenges facing multinational corporations navigating geopolitical rivalries while attempting supply chain diversification.

Nvidia share price hits record high, nears $4 trillion market cap amid AI boom

Nvidia share price surged to an all-time high on Thursday, pushing its market capitalization close to the $4 trillion mark and positioning it as the world's most valuable publicly traded company — a milestone driven by relentless investor optimism around artificial intelligence. Shares of the AI chipmaker rose as much as 2.4% in intraday trading to $160.98, briefly valuing the company at $3.92 trillion — surpassing Apple's record closing market cap of $3.915 trillion set on December 26, 2024. However, Nvidia stock price ended the day up 1.33% at $159.34, with a market value of $3.89 trillion, placing it ahead of both Apple and Microsoft. Microsoft remains the second-most valuable company on Wall Street with a market capitalization of $3.71 trillion, as its shares advanced 1.58% to close at $498.84. Apple shares rose 0.52% to $213.55 apiece, giving it a market value of $3.19 trillion, in third place. Nvidia's market valuation has jumped nearly eightfold since 2021 — from $500 billion to nearly $4 trillion — as demand for its high-performance chips has exploded alongside the AI revolution. Originally known for designing graphics processors for video games, Nvidia has become the cornerstone of the generative AI boom, powering data centers and AI infrastructure for tech giants. The rally in Nvidia shares also lifted the broader market, with the Nasdaq Composite closing at a record high of 20,601.10, up 207.97 points or 1.02%. According to LSEG data, Nvidia's current valuation even exceeds the combined market capitalization of all publicly traded companies in the United Kingdom, and is larger than the stock markets of both Canada and Mexico, Reuters reported. Despite its meteoric stock rise, Nvidia is trading at about 32 times analysts' expected earnings over the next 12 months — below its five-year average price-to-earnings ratio of around 41. This reflects accelerating earnings growth that continues to outpace its share price gains. Nvidia now accounts for 7% of the S&P 500 index. Along with Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, and Alphabet, these five tech giants make up 28% of the benchmark index — underscoring their outsized influence on US equities. The company's latest generation of AI chips is helping train some of the most advanced large language models, driving soaring demand from cloud providers and tech leaders. A fierce race among Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta Platforms, and Tesla to build next-generation AI infrastructure has further fueled the need for Nvidia's cutting-edge processors.
