Tommy Fleetwood Earns Wild Dak Prescott Comp at Travelers Championship

Stepping out of his comfort zone, NFL insider Adam Schefter made his PGA Tour Live debut on Friday at the Travelers Championship, to cover the featured group of Rory McIlroy and Keegan Bradley.
"It's going to be fun to get out of my cage and do something I'm not used to," Schefter told Golfweek ahead of his on-course reporting assignment.
"As much as I love my job—and I do—I love the challenge of being able to experience something new."
But what started as a lighthearted crossover quickly stirred up the golf world when Schefter dropped a comparison that left fans scratching their heads and some even outright fuming.

While chatting alongside analyst Robert Damron, Schefter was asked to draw parallels between NFL quarterbacks and PGA Tour players.
That's when he offered: "We've got Dak Prescott, Tommy Fleetwood. Both men have played exceptionally well. Both men have tried to win the championship.
"We know Tommy Fleetwood has won overseas (in Europe), still waiting to win his first tournament, maybe it comes here. Dak Prescott, trying to win his first Super Bowl."

Adam has already made comparisons between Scottie Scheffler & Patrick Mahomes / Dak Prescott & Tommy Fleetwood 👀pic.twitter.com/WEih9AJ49y — NUCLR GOLF (@NUCLRGOLF) June 19, 2025
While Schefter's point may have hinged on Fleetwood's lack of a PGA Tour win, the comparison to Prescott, who has just two playoff wins in eight NFL seasons and no Super Bowl appearances, was brutal.
If we do the right comparison, Fleetwood has 10 professional wins!
It includes six on the DP World Tour, and has finished top-5 in all four majors. He's also been a Ryder Cup hero, going undefeated in team play in 2018 and contributing again in 2023.
The clip went viral as soon as it was posted on NULCR GOLF's X profile.
One fan expressed his anger saying, "Manufacturing drama and narratives. What a ridiculous take. You can just tell by his in your face first pitch, this ain't gonna end well. Does the guy even golf?"
Another viewer quipped, "I'd be insulted if I were Tommy Fleetwood. He's not talking about as a guy you'd want to trade to the US for the Ryder Cup like Dak is by Cowboys fans".
This wasn't the only comparison Schefter made.
Adam Schefter compares Scottie Scheffler to Patrick Mahomes
Moments before the Dak Prescott comparison, he likened World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler to Patrick Mahomes:
"Scottie Scheffler, with all his unorthodox movements, the way he hits unbelievable shots—we can draw the comparison between Scottie Scheffler and Patrick Mahomes".

He also tossed out a few more: Adam Scott to Russell Wilson, Luke Clanton to Cam Ward, and Jordan Spieth to Matthew Stafford.
Before Schefter got his hands on this opportunity, he expressed to Golfweek, "I'm thankful and honored they asked me to do it."
"We'll see how it goes. If I love it, I'd be honored to do it again, but after one round they may say let him go back to his sport. Who knows?
"I know the players, I understand the sport, I know how to report something and we'll see how it goes".
Schefter, who says he watches PGA Tour Live "more than anyone" but only plays golf six times a year, clearly brought enthusiasm to the role.
But if he's hoping for a second round on the mic, hoping for another shot on the mic, he might want to tighten up the comparisons—because if they keep landing like this, the golf crowd won't be as forgiving the second time around.

Russell Wilson Reportedly Faced Early Doubt While Joining NY Giants
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Jameis Winston is expected to start the 2025 NFL season as one of Russell Wilson's backups on the New York Giants. For some within the organization, that's rumored to be a situation that some might've been against. According to Paul Schwartz of the New York Post, there are some within the Giants' franchise who "preferred Jameis Winston to Wilson, in terms of how they came off in their visits before both signed with the Giants." Even beyond Winston, it was noted again that Wilson wasn't exactly the "apple of the Giants' eye" when they were searching for a passer in free agency. "General manager Joe Schoen wanted to trade for Matthew Stafford, then preferred to sign Aaron Rodgers before moving onto the third choice, giving Wilson a one-year contract for $10.5 million, with incentives baked in that could double that money," Schwartz wrote. Read More: Former Giants Star Makes Strong Statement on Possible Comeback It's clear that Wilson is going to start the season as QB1. His status in that position will be performance-based, and his leash is likely short, considering the circumstances in New York. Russell Wilson speaks onstage at Fanatics Fest NYC 2025 at Javits Center on June 20, 2025 in New York City. With the 25th overall pick, the Giants selected Dart to potentially take over as the franchise quarterback in the future, filling the void that the cutting of Daniel Jones left last season. If the Giants can't get off to a hot start, it will only turn up the pressure on the coaching staff to consider pulling the plug on the veterans and begin experimenting with the rookie. Read More: Rookie Projections Emerge for New York Giants QB Jaxson Dart For the time being, Wilson has done a solid job of getting buy-in from the organization. Not only does the front office and the coaching staff seem satisfied with his spring sessions, but his receivers have issued consistent praise to the one-time Super Bowl champion. As for Winston, he'll continue playing a backup role. After beginning his career as a starter with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Winston's move to the New Orleans Saints in 2020 was the start of his journey as a backup. Over the past five seasons, Winston has started just 17 games. Nearly half of those starts came last season with the Cleveland Browns. Winston threw for 2,121 yards,13 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He achieved a 2-5 record while starting for the Browns last season. Ed Fiori, known for taking down Tiger Woods, dies of cancer
Associated Press PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Ed Fiori, who for 13 years was the only player to rally from a 54-hole deficit to beat Tiger Woods on the PGA Tour, died Sunday, the tour said on its website. He was 72. The tour said Fiori had been battling cancer. It provided no other details. A four-time winner on the PGA Tour, no victory was more memorable than the 1996 Quad City Classic, now the John Deere Classic. Three tournaments into his pro career, a 20-year-old Woods had a one-shot lead over Fiori going into the final round at Oakwood Country Club. Woods had a quadruple bogey on the fourth hole and a four-putt double bogey on the seventh hole. He shot 72 to tie for fifth, four shots behind Fiori. Woods won two starts later in Las Vegas. He never lost a 54-hole lead in another PGA Tour-sanctioned event until Y.E. Yang beat him in the 2009 PGA Championship at Hazeltine. Lee Westwood overcame a deficit to beat Woods in 2000 in a European tour event in Germany. Fiori also beat two other Hall of Fame members in playoffs, Tom Weiskopf in the 1979 Southern Open and Tom Kite in the 1982 Bob Hope Classic. 'In three of his four wins on the PGA Tour, he dueled down the stretch with future World Golf Hall of Fame members, most notably Tiger Woods in 1996. That grit and resolution in the face of immeasurable odds is incredibly admirable in every aspect of life, and I know he battled cancer with that same determination until the end,' said Miller Brady, president of the PGA Tour Champions. 'He will be missed by all of us at the tour.' Fiori played only 58 times on the senior circuit after turn 50, winning in 2004 in Mexico. 'I hung on for a few more years, and played for a while on the senior tour, but my back was always a problem,' Fiori said in a 2019 interview with "I had spinal fusion surgery in 2005, and from then on, I struggled to break 80. 'Don't feel sorry for me, though. I've had a great life in a game I love. It was never easy. Lots of times, I was on that flight heading home on Friday nights,' he said. 'But I would not trade it for anything. Even today, people call me the Tiger killer. They don't always get their facts straight, but I don't mind. I'll never forget that weekend at the John Deere.' ___ AP golf: in this topic
