MACC investigates MyKiosk project over alleged irregularities in funding and execution
KUALA LUMPUR (July 2)'\: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has launched an investigation into alleged corruption and misappropriation involving the tender process for the MyKiosk project under the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT).
The probe follows a complaint lodged in May by Selangor MCA Youth, which called on the agency to scrutinise the project's funding and implementation.
MACC's Senior Director of the Investigation Division, Datuk Zainul Darus, said a preliminary investigation is underway, with its Governance Investigation Division also conducting a concurrent inquiry.
'In addition to a full report from KPKT on the process and awarding of the tender, several parties involved have submitted relevant documents,' he said in a statement.
'The investigation will focus on two key areas: detecting any elements of corruption or misappropriation, and examining the governance process for possible breaches of procedures or regulations.'
The probe is being conducted under the MACC Act 2009.
Meanwhile, Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming has dismissed claims that the MyKiosk initiative is a white elephant, describing the allegations as baseless.
The MyKiosk programme is aimed at providing standardised, safe, and affordable trading spaces for the B40 group and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.
As of December 2024, a total of 7,243 MyKiosk units had been approved across 133 local councils nationwide.

MALAYSIAN-OWNED technology firm Zchwantech Titan Lda has successfully conducted a high-level technology showcase for the Timor Leste government by presenting its flagship National Digital Identity platform as part of the country's broader vision to modernise public services and accelerate digital governance. The strategic engagement took place during a recent official working visit by senior Timor Leste government representatives to Malaysia. This was when the regional digital identity systems specialist demonstrated its secure biometric-powered digital identity solution which is designed to integrate key public and private sectors spanning banking, healthcare, telecommunications, education and civil registries to the Timor Leste delegation. Zchwantech's presentation was well received with Timor Leste's government officials expressing strong interest and satisfaction in the platform's potential to support the country's E-Governance Roadmap and its Vision 2025 for an inclusive and connected society. In a nutshell, the system is designed to provide unique digital identifiers linked to biometric and demographic data, thus enabling secure, seamless access to services for over one million citizens. Hamzah Zainudin's father-in-law passes away after house fire
IPOH: Datuk Abdul Ghani Ngah, father-in-law of Perikatan Nasional deputy chairman and Dewan Rakyat opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, died at 1.45 pm today. The Office of the Opposition Leader confirmed the matter when contacted, adding that the body is currently at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here. It is understood that the 83-year-old was admitted to the hospital following a house fire on June 19 and had been receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit due to internal complications and respiratory difficulties caused by the incident. The funeral prayer will be held tonight after the Isyak prayer at Kampung Melayu Sungai Rapat Mosque, and he will be laid to rest at the Kampung Rapat Jaya Muslim Cemetery. Meanwhile, Arau MP Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim extended his condolences to Hamzah and family, praying that Abdul Ghani's soul be blessed with mercy, forgiven of all sins, accepted for his good deeds and placed among the righteous. In the June 19 incident, Abdul Ghani's wife, Datin Salmiah Nyak Matt, 84, died after she was found unconscious in a downstairs bedroom by rescue personnel. Ipoh police chief ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the fire involved a two-storey house with six occupants. Four individuals, aged between 18 and 49, managed to escape unhurt. - Bernama
