K'taka: DK Shivakumar pays tribute to Kempegowda, plans memorial on birth anniversary
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 27 (ANI): Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Friday marked the birth anniversary of Nadaprabhu Kempegowda by garlanding his statue and reaffirming the state government's commitment to preserving the legacy of the city's founding father. Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah was also present.
Addressing the gathering, Shivakumar announced plans for a grand memorial, stating, 'This is a very special occasion. We have allotted five acres through the Kempegowda Development Authority. We ourselves established this authority.'
Nadaprabhu Kempegowda was a chieftain under the Vijayanagara Empire in early-modern India.
He added, 'We ourselves began the celebration of the Jayanthi (birth anniversary). We are the ones who gave the land. We are now laying the foundation stone with the intention of constructing a grand building for it.'
He further noted that earlier in the day, he, along with Ministers Krishna Byre Gowda, Muniyappa, and others, offered floral tributes near Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport.
Regarding Minister Rajnath Singh's statement about a 'revolution in the government' after September, he said, 'I am not aware of this matter. I will speak to him and let you know afterwards. In any case, you should ask him directly.'
Meanwhile, speaking to the media at the Vidhana Soudha on Friday, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said, 'Kempegowda is an efficient and far-sighted administrator. He is the builder of modern Bangalore. Today, Kempegowda's 516th birth anniversary is being celebrated in collaboration with the government, Kempegowda Development Authority and BBMP. During 2013-18, our government discussed with Nirmala Nanda Swamiji and found out the date of birth, and since then, the government has been continuously celebrating Kempegowda Jayanti. If Bangalore is recognised internationally today, it was Kempegowda who laid the foundation for it.'
He added, 'The government has done the work of commemorating him. Kempegowda, who built towers in four parts of Bangalore, understood what Bangalore should be like and built many towns, including Nagaratpet, Chikkapet, and Balepet, during his administration based on his profession.' The Chief Minister said that his administration is a model for all of us. (ANI)

New Delhi [India], June 30 (ANI): Congress MP Ranjeet Ranjan condemned the alleged gang rape of a law student in Kolkata and said that such cases were being politicised and this cannot be tolerated. This comes amid mounting protests by several political parties over the incident. Ranjeet Ranjan said, 'In any state, whether it is our government or the BJP government, if there is harassment against women, then it is absolutely condemnable and it should not be tolerated in any situation. We went to Odisha and in a week there were cases of gang rapes in three different places. Whether it is Odisha or West Bengal, there should be no attempt to protect anyone, and it is unfortunate that everywhere it is politicised and as a woman, this cannot be tolerated.' Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Kunal Ghosh on Sunday hit back at Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's remarks against the TMC government, asserting that the state remains one of the 'safest places for women' in the country. Responding to Pradhan's demand to 'free' West Bengal from TMC rule, Ghosh accused the Union Minister of ignoring atrocities against women in BJP-ruled states. 'Tell Dharmendra Pradhan to talk about crimes against women in places like Unnao, Hathras, Prayagraj, and Delhi first... Police take action in West Bengal. Social crimes have lessened in the state. This is the safest state for women,' the TMC leader said. The remarks came hours after Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan alleged that West Bengal under TMC rule was facing a governance crisis similar to the Emergency imposed in 1975. Drawing a parallel, Pradhan said the TMC was carrying forward the legacy of the Congress-era Emergency by eroding constitutional values. '50 years ago, an Emergency was declared to dismantle, tear apart, and disregard the country's Constitution... It is disheartening that the party carrying forward that Congress culture is the Trinamool Congress. It has not yet overcome that mindset,' Pradhan said during a press conference. Meanwhile, Kalyan Banerjee in the latest row said, 'Yes, incidents do happen. Not all men are like this, but some have a perverted mindset. These perverted men then come out on the streets, hold protests and demand the death penalty.' On June 25, a female student was allegedly gang-raped inside the South Calcutta Law College in Kolkata's Kasba area. The police have arrested four persons, including the main accused Manojit Mishra, and formed a five-member Special team to investigate the incident. (ANI)

Canada: Chief organiser of National Security Conference calls for unity against extremism
Ontario [Canada], June 30 (ANI): Ritesh Malik, Chairperson of Canada India Foundation and chief organiser of National Security Conference, said that the conference was against extremism in Canada. Malik, while talking to ANI, said that the conference aimed to call the policymakers of Canada to assist them in the cause. He said, 'We are doing this conference united against extremism today here in Canada, which we as Canadians feel is very important and timely for all of us. As a community, we are going through a lot of threats in terms of extremism, and this is not against any community, any individual, or any organisation. This conference is for Canada, to preserve Canada in its pristine state, and to ensure that we address the current challenges we face as Canadians in Canada, particularly in dealing with extremism and the suffering of communities daily. We need to call this out and make sure government policymakers and everybody who cares for Canada listens to us and make sure they do their best to help Canada.' Former Canadian Minister Ujjal Dosanjh said that the question of extremism in Canada is not paid much attention to by the lawmakers either. He said, 'Today's meeting is important. I think it's probably one of the first public meetings in a long time that would highlight the question of extremism in Canada, particularly in the Indo-Canadian community, and how the politicians in this country haven't paid much attention to it, and how extremism, drugs, smuggling and even the immigration rackets all sometimes come together coalesce to create problems for our society.' Sanjay Lazar, an aviation expert and author who lost his entire family in the 1985 Air India bombing, said that he hoped to establish a learning centre to bring about awareness about the cause. 'This is also the 40th anniversary of the Air India Kanishka bombing where I lost my entire family. I'm here to speak to everyone in the hope that we will be able to establish a memorial learning centre in Canada and in India, and also bring this subject into effect in the education system right across Ontario, BC and Canada,' he told ANI. Wyatt Claypool, a Canadian journalist said that the conference helped in taking Canadian foreign policy seriously. He said, 'It's a great conference as we're talking about national security and foreign policy seriously. Canada has become a country that often backstabs its allies. Whether it's India or Israel, we take the wrong side. We talk like second-year foreign policy students obsessed with de-escalation. We forget that sometimes there is a right and a wrong.' Danial Bordman, another Canadian journalist, said that radical elements are infiltrating Canada, including schools now, which is the focus of the event. He said, 'The focus of today's event is to counter the various types of extremism rising through Canada. We have Islamist groups, the Muslim Brotherhood, IRGC connected, Pakistani ISI-funded, Khalistanis, and radical far-left elements infiltrating our schools. So all the worst people in the country are very mad that this is happening. But I'd say all the best people in the country are in this building right now. So I'm excited to be here.' The Canada India Foundation (CIF), in collaboration with The Alliance to Fight Secessionism and International Khalistani Terrorism (TAFSIK), convened a powerful one-day National Security Conference on Sunday under the theme 'United Against Extremism'. J&K: Offline registration for Amarnath Yatra begins today in Jammu at special centres set by Administration
Jammu (Jammu & Kashmir) [India], June 30 (ANI): The Amarnath Yatra is set to commence on July 3, and the registration is underway for devotees who have not yet registered for the Yatra through online mode. A large number of devotees have visited the special centre as registration begins today at the centres set up by the administration. The Yatra will begin on July 3 through the Baltal and Pahalgam routes. A devotee who came to the centre for registration said, 'The people are enthusiastic this time. There is no fear (due to the Pahalgam attack). Arrangements are good. The administration is with us.' Another devotee added, 'You can see the enthusiasm in the people. I have faith in Amarnath. They (terrorists) can do whatever they want; we will not be affected. I want to request all the people to visit J&K so that our army and government can say that we are not affected by their (terrorists) actions.' Ahead of the Amarnath Yatra, the CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) has rolled out a robust multi-layered security plan along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) to ensure the safety and security of the pilgrims. Jammu-Srinagar Highway is one of the vital routes for thousands of pilgrims. The CRPF has intensified surveillance, deployed K-9 (dog) squads alongside its personnel along the vital Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, a key route used by thousands of pilgrims, and strengthened highway patrols, with a special focus on sensitive stretches, such as the Udhampur sector. The first batch of pilgrims will be flagged off from the Jammu base camp on July 2, 2025, while the Yatra will officially begin on July 3, 2025, via both the Baltal and Pahalgam routes. Earlier, in a preemptive effort to ensure safety during the upcoming Amarnath Yatra 2025, a joint mock landslide drill was conducted by the Indian Army, CRPF, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the JKSDRF (Jammu and Kashmir State Disaster Response Force) at Samroli, Toldi Nallah, on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway on Sunday. The exercise aimed to assess emergency preparedness in case of landslides or natural disasters during the pilgrimage. The simulation involved rescuing stranded vehicles and providing immediate aid to injured pilgrims, with security and disaster response teams efficiently coordinating evacuation and medical assistance.
