REAL Madrid are ready to make a £100m bid to lure Manchester City star Rodri to the Bernabeu this summer.
New Madrid boss Xabi Alonso has targeted the Spain midfielder as his priority after Real were destroyed by PSG in their Club World Cup semi-final earlier this month.

And while City chief Pep Guardiola will be reluctant to lose the midfield fulcrum whose absence for most of last season was a huge factor in his side surrendering their Premier League crown, Madrid believe the Etihad outfit might be tempted by a mega-bid.
Rodri, 29, was out from September until the last week of the season after suffering major ACL and meniscus injuries in the 2-2 draw with Arsenal.
He made one start and three appearances off the bench in the Club World Cup but only lasted 37 minutes after his arrival as City were shocked by Al Hilal in the last 16 before suffering a fresh problem.
Uncertainty over his true physical condition is one element that might persuade Real to wait and see, with his City contract due to expire in 2027.

That would allow the Bernabeu club to fully assess his physical condition over the course of the next 12 months, with that City deal running down and his asking price likely to drop significantly as well.
But Alonso is understood to be pushing the Madrid hierarchy to tempt City with a bid for the 29-year-old now, knowing that the Etihad side would be likely to be keen to tie Rodri to a long-term extension if his fitness holds up.
Real feel that former Atletico star Rodri, who was born in the Spanish capital and moved to the Prem in a £62.8m deal six years ago, would be open to a return 'home'.
Alonso was stunned by the frailties of his midfield in that PSG mauling, when they could not get to grips with the movement and intensity of Vitinha, Joao Neves and Fabian Ruiz.

That has pushed him to demand a beefing up of his engine room options, with Rodri, Ballon d'Or winner in 2024 despite missing the final three months of the year after that surgery, seen as the perfect solution.
Pep has never even attempted to hide his estimation of the Spaniard, admitting after he started against Juventus in the US: 'Everyone knows how important Rodri is.

City signed Spain's Nico Gonzalez from Porto for £50m in January and added Dutchman Tijjani Reijnders before the Club World Cup before landing Norwegian teenager Sverre Nypan last week.
Whether they can adequately replace Rodri is unclear and Guardiola seems unlikely to be open to a sale but Madrid are ready to test the waters in the closing weeks of the summer window.

Transfer news live: Liverpool target Isak after Diaz deal, Arsenal want Eze, Man Utd latest
Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United are among the clubs striking major deals as the summer transfer window nears its final month. Liverpool have signed Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt in a £79m deal having beaten off interest from Newcastle to secure his signature. The Reds have also agreed to sell Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich which could challenge the resolve of Newcastle who are holding firm in their valuation of Alexander Isak. Isak has requested to 'explore his options' away from the club with a move to Liverpool seemingly the likeliest destination as the Premier League champions aim to strengthen their forward line. Arsenal have completed the signing of Sporting's Viktor Gyokeres, closing out a deal worth £63m for the forward who was unveiled as a new Gunner during their pre-season match against Newcastle on Sunday. The Gunners have also confirmed the signing of Cristhian Mosquera in defence and have their sights on Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze. Elsewhere, Manchester United have completed the signing of Bryan Mbeumo who joins Matheus Cunha in Ruben Amorim's new-look attack though the manager is still hopeful of securing a No.9 before the start of the season. Marcus Rashford has completed a loan move to Barcelona while Jadon Sancho is drawing interest from Juventus as the club also focus on outgoings. Meanwhile, Chelsea have their sights on a Dutch duo of Xavi Simons and centre-back Jorrel Hato. Arsenal ramp up bid for Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze Arsenal are aiming to swiftly move to secure Crystal Palace 's Eberechi Eze now that the deal for Sporting 's Viktor Gyokeres is complete. Mikel Arteta 's side are Eze's top choice, as has previously been reported by The Independent, and those close to the player are confident a deal will be done in the next few weeks. Arsenal are hoping to agree a fee that comes to £60m, rather than the reported £68m clause, although on terms that are also amenable to Palace. Although there has not yet been any formal contact between the two clubs, the suggestions are that both will be flexible, amid good relations between the two boardrooms. The 27-year-old has signed a five-year contract. The purchase marks the end of an 18-month hunt for a number-nine from Arsenal, who have been insistent on signing a goalscorer for the 'here and now'. Gyokeres' arrival also marks the end of a hard period of negotiations with Sporting, who were insistent on more achievable add-ons. At one point, the deal dragged on and stalled over a potential add-on of €5m. United made the inquiry on Thursday evening but were told that Watkins 'is not for sale'. Watkins is just one of a few strikers United have looked at along with others including Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson and RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko. With a valuation of around £60m, Watkins is one of the cheaper options United are exploring and has proven Premier League quality. If they do pursue a deal then it will be difficult to convince Villa to part ways with their man. The Colombian winger, who is currently in Tokyo with Liverpool on their pre-season tour, will leave on Sunday or Monday to complete the formalities of his move. Liverpool had long insisted Diaz was not for sale but reluctantly agreed to his request to go. Liverpool accept €75m Luis Diaz bid from Bayern Munich Richard Jolly 28 July 2025 07:20

Conor Coady sees Leicester close Rangers escape route as wait for key transfer trigger continues
Russell Martin and sporting director Kevin Thelwell have been keen on the centre-back throughout the summer Boss Marti Cifuentes has dropped a major hint that he wants to keep Conor Coady at the club amid interest from Rangers. The defender has been a target at Ibrox all summer - with both the Scottish Premiership giants and Coady had keen to make a deal happen. The England cap had been keen to link up with Russell Martin in time for the Champions League qualification double-header against Panathinaikos. However, he has remained with the Foxes following the arrival of Cifuentes as they prepare for the English Championship campaign after Premier League relegation. The 32-year-old has remained as captain going into the new season - and was handed his first 90 minutes of pre-season during the 3-1 defeat to Cologne. With the league opener against Sheffield Wednesday less than two weeks away, Cifuentes admits that the players handed a run-out for the full game are being considered as starters this term. Cifuentes told club media: 'According to where we are in pre-season, it will be a direct competition from day one to see who would be in the starting line-up against Sheffield Wednesday. "It must be a healthy competition between all the players. Today has been a step forward in the right direction in that sense. 'In the first game I wanted to share minutes to give an opportunity to everyone. But today was about as many players as possible getting 90 minutes. It will be very valuable. 'It's not only in terms of approaching the next couple of weeks, but as well for me learning about where we are as a team.' The Leicester Mercury report that Coady will only be allowed to leave the King Power Stadium if the cash-strapped club can find a replacement. The Foxes have yet to make their first signing of the summer with reports south of the border suggesting goalkeeper Asmir Begovic could be coming through the door before a new centre-back. It is noted that an experienced replacement for Coady is on the agenda - but appears to be some way off at this stage of the window.
