Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Umno Chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin described the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) as a clear recognition of Sabah's role as a driver of rural transformation and sustainable economic growth. The Kinabatangan MP said 13MP is not just a development roadmap but a strategic shift that places Sabah's priorities at the core of national planning, especially through investments in agriculture, fisheries and agro-based industries. '13MP not only reflects the intent to develop regional infrastructure and the economy, but also strengthens the principles of social justice and long-term rural economic resilience,' he said. He pointed to the RM227 billion allocation for the economic sector, including the creation of an integrated fisheries hub and blue economy in Sabah, as a decisive step towards building a stronger local food supply chain. He added that the plan's focus on modernising agriculture through automation and smart technologies would bring a significant impact to rural communities across the State. Bung also underscored several major projects listed in the 13MP, including the development of the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park, upgrading of biodiesel depots in Sandakan and Lahad Datu, and the continuation of the Pan Borneo Highway in Sabah. 'The emphasis on developing the rural workforce through TVET and targeted financing under the TVET Madani programme will shape a new generation of young agropreneurs and local technocrats, in line with 13MP's aspiration to create 1.2 million job opportunities by 2030, including in the digital economy and smart agriculture,' he said. He stressed that Sabah should not be viewed merely as a recipient of federal development, but as a catalyst for national progress. 'I urge the Sabah Government to proactively align the State's strategy with RMK13 in a substantive manner so that the opportunities presented can be fully maximised by the people of Sabah,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? BN aims to contest 1 state seat in every Sabah parliamentary constituency

BN deputy chairman Mohamad Hasan said representation across Sabah will lift the spirits of party members and make them feel included in the process. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : Barisan Nasional wants to contest at least one state seat in every parliamentary constituency in Sabah in the coming state election, says its deputy chairman, Mohamad Hasan. Mohamad, who is also the Umno deputy president, said this is a key demand from the Sabah Umno-BN leadership, aimed at ensuring the party has representation and relevance across the state, Berita Harian reported. 'In the last state election, there were several parliamentary areas that had no BN candidates at all. This dampened the morale of the Umno-BN members and machinery as they had no role to play during the election. 'When people are not given the opportunity, some become disheartened and eventually leave the party, and that's not good,' he said. He was speaking to reporters after officiating the joint Umno divisional delegates' meeting, including its Wanita, Youth and Puteri wings, in Membakut today. Mohamad said BN should be allocated at least one seat to contest in constituencies with two or three state seats. 'This would lift the spirits of our party members and make them feel included in the process,' he said. Mohamad said the proposal would be discussed at the top level through Umno's negotiation committee and among the secretaries-general of the BN component parties. 'This is my message to the secretaries-general … do not disregard this request. Every parliamentary seat must have at least one BN candidate,' he said. Also present was Umno Supreme Council member and Kimanis MP Mohamad Alamin.

New Kuching airport access road to ease traffic by September

KUCHING: The construction of an eight-kilometer access road connecting Jalan Datuk Mohamad Musa in Kota Samarahan to the southern access road of the airport is expected to be fully completed this September. Works Minister, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, said the road, which is categorised as a federal road, will serve as an alternative route to alleviate the frequent traffic congestion between Kota Samarahan and Kuching. 'The current progress is at 96 percent, with only four percent remaining, which involves the installation of road equipment and lights. I understand the entire project can be completed next month,' he told reporters after an official working visit to the project site today. He also stated that the development agenda for the 13th Malaysia Plan under his ministry in Sarawak will be aligned with the state's Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030). He said infrastructure development like roads, education, health, and industries are among the priorities under this plan, in line with the Sarawak State Government's commitment to drive the green energy and sustainable technology sectors. 'The 13th Malaysia Plan document clearly states that Sarawak and Sabah will become energy industry hubs. Therefore, the implementation of infrastructure projects like this is crucial,' he said. Commenting on his ministry's role, Nanta said the Ministry of Works (KKR), through the Public Works Department (JKR), plays a significant role as the primary implementer of national infrastructure development. 'Besides building roads, JKR also assists other ministries like the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health in building and repairing schools, colleges, hospitals, and clinics,' he added. - Bernama
