One of the 'best' psychological thrillers of the 90s added to Netflix
Copycat, released in 1995, follows Dr Helen Hudson (Sigourney Weaver), who has become agorophobic after being attacked by the deeply deranged Daryll Lee Cullum (Harry Connick Jr).
But she must face her fears when approached by police officers M. J. Monahan (Holly Hunter) and Reuben Goetz (Dermot Mulroney) as they believe a copycat killer is on the loose, and Dr Hudson is their best hope of catching them.
Copycat proved a moderate box office success at the time of its release, but it really took off on the video rental market, becoming the 11th most-rented film in the US for 1996.
It has been dubbed one of the 'best' psychological thrillers of the 90s, and currently holds a 76% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The critics' consensus reads: 'Copycat's outstanding cast helps this often unpleasant thriller transcend the less palatable elements of its standard-issue story.'
'For anyone who likes to stoke adrenaline with anxiety, Copycat delivers the goods,' Newsweek said in their review.
Variety wrote: 'What the world would not seem to need right now is yet another serial killer thriller, but Copycat has both the smarts and the tension to rate as a potent entry in the overworked genre.'
The Chicago Sun Times said: 'Copycat doesn't have the dark tones of Seven, or that movie's distinctive look. But in its own way, it is as effective. It creates original characters and makes them more important than the plot. We care, and that's the key.'
Entertainment Weekly added: 'The violence in Copycat is going to freak out fans of Hunter and Weaver, but then, the movie's emotional depth is going to shock your average slasher-film fan.'
The Horror Queers Podcast surmised in a retrospective review: 'Weaver and Hunter are at the top of their game, elevating what is essentially a 2-hour episode of a CBS crime procedural into high art.'
Speaking on SiriusXM last year, Connick Jr, who played the film's infamous psychopath, revealed he only met Alien icon Weaver at Copycat's premiere after she allegedly avoided him on set.
'Sigourney Weaver, she's so unbelievable. She wouldn't talk to me,' he recalled.
'I didn't meet her till the premiere. She would not— every time I came around, she went the other way. She was like, 'I don't want to be around that guy!''
He joked: 'I remembered what it was like to be in high school.' More Trending
In an interview at the time of the film's release, Weaver said she was often a 'basket case' while filming such dark subject material.
'It took a lot out of me, I think. A great thing happened, which was I met a wonderful karate teacher in San Francisco. Every night, even if we ended at like 9:30, I would meet with him for an hour and I'd practice kicks and everything,' she said.
'I don't think I could've gotten through without it because it was very centering, and I think it also took me out of that victim frame of mind.'
Copycat is available to stream on Netflix .

EXCLUSIVE Crown double bill as Claire Foy goes Dutch with her long-term singer-songwriter boyfriend (well she is a fan of equal pay!)
The Crown star Claire Foy has long been vocal about sexual equality and the gender pay gap. So when she went for dinner with her long-term boyfriend, of course they split the bill between them. The actress has been dating singer-songwriter Charlie Cunningham for two years, and last week they were seen enjoying a casual dinner together outside a fishmonger's and acclaimed seafood bar in Highgate, North London. The loved-up pair, both 41, looked happy to be reunited, as Cunningham has just finished the first leg of his North American tour, and were seen holding hands and kissing during the meal. And when the time came to pay, both got out their bank cards and went Dutch on the bill – which included two glasses of rosé – before taking a romantic sunset stroll across nearby Hampstead Heath. Both were casually dressed in T-shirts, with Claire carrying a butter yellow bag. The actress hit the headlines in 2018 when she revealed she was being paid less than her co-star, Matt Smith, on The Crown – even though she was playing the young Queen Elizabeth II, around whom the whole Netflix drama was based. She later received an apology and an undisclosed amount – reported to be up to £200,000 – in back pay. 'I'd been working on that show for two years,' she later said. 'I loved everybody on it. And then I realised, there's been a big, fat, dirty secret that nobody's ever talked about.' Foy was paid a reported £29,000 per episode for the first two series of the hit drama, while Smith's higher pay for playing the Duke of Edinburgh has never been revealed. Producers justified the disparity as he was then the better-known actor because of his starring role in Doctor Who. The loved-up pair, both 41, looked happy to be reunited, as Cunningham has just finished the first leg of his North American tour The couple's careers mean that they are often apart with Cunningham is playing several dates across Europe and Canada over the next few months Smith defended his co-star's bid for parity, saying at the time: 'Claire is one of my best friends and I believe that we should be paid equally and fairly and there should be equality for all.' Foy and Cunningham were first spotted together in July 2023. It is her first public relationship since her 2018 break-up with The History Boys actor Stephen Campbell Moore, the father of her daughter Ivy Rose. The couple's careers mean that they are often apart. London-born Cunningham is playing several dates across Europe and Canada over the next few months, while Foy is currently filming H Is For Hawk, a biographical drama, alongside Brendan Gleeson. She is also set to appear in an all-star adaptation of Enid Blyton's The Magic Faraway Tree and the black comedy film Savage House alongside Richard E. Grant.

Vinny horrified as major Emmerdale legend overhears private moment with Kammy
A new friendship for Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson) turned to confusion on Emmerdale recently when Vinny got carried away and tried to kiss his friend Kammy Hadiq (Shebz Miah). Kammy is confident, relaxed and reckless – all the things Vinny isn't, basically. So when they spent an afternoon getting revenge on a delivery driver who'd made some pointed comments to Vinny, he was swept away by the excitement and fun they were having. He leaned in to kiss Kammy, who didn't reciprocate. They then tried to brush the whole thing off as being a joke. 'Kammy isn't bothered about the kiss, he more feels for Vinny,' Shebz Miah confirmed. 'Kammy's so relaxed. Kammy's so confident in his sexuality. It's more that he wants to offer a helping hand, because it's a very tricky situation now that Vinny's in. We've got Gabs on one hand, then all the other stuff in Vinny's life and how does it affect that?' With Vinny's wedding to Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) coming up soon, Vinny is now feeling incredibly anxious about what happened with Kammy, particularly after Gabby insists that Kammy is on the guest list for the wedding. When Vinny has to take Gabby's car to the garage to be serviced, he can't avoid Kammy any longer. As they talk, Gabby passes by on the phone with Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) and there's a glitch in the call that means Laurel can hear everything Kammy and Vinny are talking about. It's not long before Laurel demands a private word with Vinny and he's naturally nervous about what Gabby's step-mum might be about to say. Knowing that Gabby has previously had her heart broken when former fiancé Nicky Miligan (Lewis Cope) jilted her on their wedding day after admitting he was gay, Laurel is obviously worried that history could be about to repeat itself. For Vinny's sake as much as Gabby's she begs him to consider carefully whether he's absolutely sure about the relationship with Gabby. She says if he has any doubts, he shouldn't go ahead. Rosie Bentham told us that potentially Gabby would be more devastated if this wedding didn't happen than she was with Nicky. More Trending 'I think this one would hit even deeper because it is someone that she genuinely has feelings for and has developed a very strong connection with,' she reflected. 'I think if Vinny is questioning things and really struggling, some communication needs to happen. But this stuff with Kammy, I don't know how it would be initially received.
