Kota Kinabalu: A 21-year-old man who claimed he wanted to help someone who treated him to breaking of fast was charged with dealing with unlawful transactions involving a sum of RM22,800 using his own bank account. Mazlan Wong Han Bang pleaded not guilty before Sessions Court Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan to the charge against him, on Tuesday. Mazlan is accused of unlawfully involving directly in a transaction involving the money using his bank account at a financial institution on March 15 this year at the Ace Delight Food Court in Kg Nagapas, Papar. The offence under Section 424C(1) of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between three and ten years, or could be a fine of between RM10,000 and RM150,000, or both, on conviction. The court set Sept 2 this year for pre-trial case management and released Mazlan on bail of RM5,000 in two local sureties. Mazlan was also ordered to report to Sabindo police station in Papar every month, to surrender his passport, if any, to the court until the disposal of his case. The court advised Mazlan to engage a counsel to represent him. During the proceedings, the court had asked him about the money and Mazlan said he just wanted to help a 'person'. 'I withdrew the money from my account and later gave it to the person who treated me for breaking of fast,' said Mazlan when the court asked him what the person had given him in return. In asking for his bail sum to be reduced, Mazlan told the court that he was working with his mother to sell vegetables in Kinarut market. Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Bryan Francis offered bail of RM10,000 in two local sureties with several additional conditions to be imposed. Repeat offender stabbed policeman in Pudu while carrying drugs
KUALA LUMPUR: The man who stabbed a police corporal during a patrol in Pudu last week turned aggressive because he was carrying drugs, says Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay. The 56-year-old suspect, a local man, was found to have 14 prior criminal records involving drugs and violent offences. He is currently remanded for seven days until next Thursday, with the case being investigated under Section 307 and Section 186 of the Penal Code for attempted murder and obstructing a public servant, as well as Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Speaking to reporters after visiting the injured officer at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia today, Ayob Khan said Corporal Mohd Nadzri Sudiman of the Pudu police station is in stable condition. "He suffered injuries to the small intestine, with the stab wound about three centimetres wide and seven centimetres deep. Fortunately, it did not hit any vital organs," he said. The officer is now under medical supervision, able to speak but still in pain due to surgery. "God willing, he is expected to recover within one to two weeks," Ayob Khan added. Also present during the visit were Acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad, Bukit Aman Management (Administration) deputy director Datuk Azizee Ismail, Wangsa Maju police chief ACP Mohd Lazim Ismail and Cheras police chief ACP Aidil Bolhassan. Ayob Khan said police are constantly reviewing their standard operating procedures (SOP), including the need for body cameras among field personnel. At the time of the incident, Mohd Nadzri was not wearing a body camera, although he was on patrol with a colleague. "We have proposed that all personnel, especially those in the Motorcycle Patrol Unit and Mobile Patrol Vehicle Unit, be equipped with body cameras," he said. Under phase one, a total of 7,648 body cameras have been distributed nationwide. Another 10,000 units are expected to be delivered in the second phase. - Bernama

Wife shocked to learn policeman husband stabbed during patrol
KUALA LUMPUR: The wife of a police corporal stabbed while on patrol in Pudu last week described her shock upon receiving a call from the hospital requesting immediate consent for emergency surgery. Norfazliana Osman, 35, said she was at their home in the Pudu police quarters when Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, contacted her around 1pm on Thursday (July 31). "They said they needed to operate immediately and asked for consent as part of his intestines might need to be removed due to the stab wound,' she told reporters at the hospital today. Her husband, Corporal Mohd Nadzri Sudiman, remains in stable condition but is still weak and requires pain management, she said. "I understand the risks of his job as a policeman, but as a wife, the fear is always there,' said Norfazliana, who has two children aged 11 and seven. She said it is uncertain how long her husband will remain hospitalised, but confirmed their children have been informed of his condition. Earlier, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay visited Mohd Nadzri at the hospital. Also present were Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad, Bukit Aman Management (Administration) deputy director Datuk Azizee Ismail, Wangsa Maju district police chief ACP Mohd Lazim Ismail and Cheras district police chief ACP Aidil Bolhassan. Mohd Nadzri was seriously injured after being stabbed in the abdomen by a 56-year-old local man while patrolling with four other officers in Pudu Market, Jalan Yew. The suspect was arrested at the scene and has been remanded until next Thursday. Fined for threatening to kill wife

Kota Kinabalu: A 44-year-old year old man was fined RM4,000 or seven months jail by the Magistrate's Court here Friday for threatening to kill his wife. Kamirin Ebit pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to committing the offence against his 39-year-old wife by saying 'Ku sembelih kau pun boleh bah (I can slaughter you too)', on June 12, this year, at 10pm, in front of a house at Angkasa Apartment, Menggatal. The charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to two years, a fine, or both and if the threat involves causing death or grievous hurt, arson, or outraging a woman's modesty, the penalty may extend to seven years' imprisonment, a fine, or both, on conviction. The court heard from the prosecution that on the night of the incident, the complainant was at home when an argument broke out with Kamirin, who is her husband. During the quarrel, he threatened her with the said words, causing her to fear for her safety. She later lodged a police report which led to Kamirin arrest on July 4. Meanwhile, a 23-year-old man was sentenced to seven months jail for keeping a stolen car. Baru Junie pleaded guilty before Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali to keeping a stolen Proton Saga belonging to one Winona Emmanuel, on May 26, this year, at 12.05am, at the traffic light, Jalan Tuaran Bypass, Manggatal – Tuaran. The charge is framed under Section 411 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of between six months and five years and liability of a fine on conviction. The prosecution informed the court that the car was reported stolen from a workshop in Putatan on May 25. In the same court, a 35-year-old man was jailed six months for a similar offence. Walter Jumain admitted to keeping stolen items comprising several identity cards, bank cards, a car key, an Apple Watch, and a laptop belonging to one Jude Ooi on July 24, at 9.30am in a rented room at Putatan town. The court heard from the prosecution that the said items were reported missing from the complainant's house in Penampang on July 24.
