Itanagar: The indefinite blockade along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border, announced by several Mising community organisations, has been temporarily suspended following an interaction between Arunachal Pradesh chief minister
Pema Khandu
and his Assam counterpart
Himanta Biswa Sarma
, officials said on Tuesday.
The suspension comes in the wake of assurances from both state govts and police authorities regarding justice in the alleged killings of two Assam youths in Arunachal Pradesh.
A joint meeting with all stakeholder organisations is expected within the next three days, officials confirmed.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Takam Mising Porin Kebang (TMPK) — which led the protest alongside the Mising Mimag Kebang (MMK) and Takam Mising Mime Kebang (TMMK) — expressed gratitude to both CMs and the Assam chief secretary for their intervention in response to a memorandum seeking justice for 22-year-old Prabash Doley and 29-year-old Shankar Pegu.
Earlier in the day, seven arterial roads linking Assam and Arunachal Pradesh were blocked during the protest, which was called off after assurances of action from both state govts.
Arunachal Pradesh inspector general of police (law and orderr) Chukhu Apa said legal proceedings have begun in both cases and urged the public to maintain peace and avoid taking the law into their own hands.
Doley, a labourer from Misamora village in Assam's Dhemaji district, was allegedly killed in Chimpu of Itanagar on June 18 following a dispute.

Auto driver splashes acid on woman home guard over parking dispute, held
Ahmedabad: A minor dispute over parking of vehicle escalated into a violent acid attack on a woman home guard in Chhatral area of Kalol taluka in Gandhinagar, on Friday morning. The accused, identified as autorickshaw driver Ashok Ravat, allegedly hurled toilet-cleaning acid at 38-year-old Bhavna Parmar after she asked him to move his vehicle to ease traffic near Chhatral overbridge. Bengal court sentences nine to life imprisonment in cyber fraud case
Kalyani (WB), Jul 18 (PTI) A court in West Bengal's Nadia district on Friday sentenced nine members of an inter-state cyber fraud gang to life imprisonment for extorting nearly Rs 1 crore from a scientist. The nine – four from Maharashtra, three from Haryana and two from Gujarat – were found guilty of duping a retired agricultural scientist of nearly Rs 1 crore. Additional district and sessions judge, S Sarkar sentenced all the nine persons to life imprisonment. The court had on Thursday pronounced them guilty under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act. The victim had lodged a complaint with the cyber crime police station at Kalyani under West Bengal's Ranaghat police district on November 6, 2024. The victim had stated that he was coerced by fraudsters posing as officials into transferring money to the tune of nearly Rs 1 crore in various bank accounts after being put under 'digital arrest' by them, Additional SP (headquarters), Ranaghat police district, Siddharth Dhapola, said. Acting on the complaint, police launched a month-long operation and arrested the convicts from different states. A large number of mobile phones, bank documents, PAN cards and cheque books were seized during the operation, Dhapola said. The racket has international links, and the kingpin is believed to be based in a Southeast Asian country, police said.
