Kenneth Murray calls Matt Eberflus' defense "a great fit" for him
The Cowboys covered themselves by trading for Titans linebacker Kenneth Murray, a first-round pick of the Chargers in 2020.
Murray is working at Overshown's weakside linebacker spot in new defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus' scheme.
'I think it's a great fit,' Murray said, via Clarence Hill of All City DLLS. 'I've been enjoying myself, obviously transitioning over from being traded and getting up to speed and stuff like that. Lot of things work to my strengths, coming down hill, playing the coverage, stuff like that. It's been good. It's been great being here during the offseason program, getting around the guys and just trying to come in and establish a culture and get better every day.'
The Cowboys have Murray making the defensive calls over middle linebacker Jack Sanborn, who followed Eberflus from Chicago.
'I'm extremely comfortable with it,' Murray said of being the green dot. 'I've done it the majority of my career, getting us in and out of checks, being able to decipher different things, different formation, stuff like that.'
Murray vows to help the Cowboys shore up their run defense. They have not ranked in the top-10 in run defense since 2018 under defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli. In the past five seasons, the Cowboys have not ranked higher than 16th in run defense, including 29th last season.
'I think it's just taking a different approach,' Murray said. 'Obviously, it's a new style coming in, and then, you know, got some new players. That's something that I'll take extremely personally. That that's mentality I'm gonna bring to it. It's personal, man. When they just running it down your throat, it's unacceptable.'
Murray had 95 tackles and a career-high 3.5 sacks with Tennessee last season when he started 14 games.

📸 Gabriel Jesus shows off bold new look as he steps up Arsenal comeback
Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus has debuted a fresh new hairstyle as he continues his rehabilitation from a long-term ACL injury that has sidelined him since the back end of last season. The new look marks a symbolic refresh for the 28-year-old, who has endured a frustrating spell on the sidelines after suffering the serious knee injury earlier this year, the timing of which dealt a significant blow to Arsenal's run-in last season. Despite his absence from the pitch, Jesus has remained a visible figure around the club's London Colney training ground. Sources close to the club suggest his recovery is progressing steadily, with hopes that he could be reintegrated into full training by September if there are no setbacks. When he eventually returns to action, the Brazilian will face competition for a starting berth from new signing Viktor Gyökeres, as well as Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard. For now, the green-topped striker remains focused on regaining full fitness — and his new look suggests he's ready to turn heads both on and off the pitch. 📸 GLYN KIRK - AFP or licensors

Joe Hortiz: Najee Harris doing better, no reason to rush anyone out there
Chargers running back Najee Harris remains on the non-football injury list with the eye injury he suffered in a pre-training camp fireworks accident and it remains unknown when he might be back in action. At the time Harris went on the list, word was that it would be a short stay but General Manager Joe Hortiz didn't offer any timetable in an interview with SiriusXM NFL Radio. Hortiz noted that the Chargers got to camp before other teams because of this week's Hall of Fame Game and that they'll give Harris the time he needs to get fully cleared to return. 'He's doing better every day,' Hortiz said. 'He's dealing with it, he's getting better. We're going to be cautious and precautious with it and let him get healthy. There's no rush, it's early. We came into camp early, we got a long preseason to go so there's no sense in rushing anyone out there.' First-round pick Omarion Hampton is alone at the top of the running back depth chart with Harris off the field and a strong first impression for the rookie could change the outlook for Harris's role by the time the veteran is able to get back in action.

Buccaneers rookie linebacker David Walker out with a torn ACL
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Buccaneers rookie linebacker David Walker tore an ACL and likely will miss the rest of the season. Walker, a fourth-round draft pick out of Central Arkansas, sustained the knee injury in Friday's practice. He had 10 1/2 sacks last season and was expected to bolster Tampa Bay's pass rush. The Buccaneers finished tied for sixth in the NFL with 46 sacks in 2024. Walker was competing for snaps with veteran Anthony Nelson behind starter YaYa Diaby in Tampa Bay's 3-4 defense. The Buccaneers signed two-time Pro Bowl edge rusher Haason Reddick and veteran linebacker Anthony Walker Jr. in free agency. ___ AP NFL: The Associated Press
