BJP stages statewide protest in Jharkhand, accuses Hemant govt of institutionalised corruption

Hans India6 days ago

Ranchi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday held protests across all 264 blocks of Jharkhand, launching a scathing attack on the Hemant Soren-led government. The party alleged widespread corruption, administrative failure, and deterioration in the law and order situation across the state.
During the demonstrations, BJP leaders targeted the state government for irregularities in development schemes, rampant illegal mining, worsening public infrastructure, and poor conditions in government hospitals.
Issues related to roads, electricity, and drinking water were also raised prominently during the protest.
After the protest, BJP workers submitted memoranda -- addressed to the Deputy Commissioners -- through Block Development Officers (BDOs), listing their demands and grievances.
BJP state President and Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi led the protest in the Gawan block of Giridih district.
Addressing a gathering outside the block office, Marandi alleged, 'Under Hemant Soren's rule, government offices have turned into dens of corruption. Today's protest is just the beginning. If corruption does not stop, our agitation will intensify across the state.'
He further accused the state government of shielding criminals, saying, 'People are living in fear. The law and order situation has worsened to such an extent that murder, robbery, and rape cases are setting new records.'
Marandi also highlighted the condition of tribal communities, remarking that their plight has never been worse, despite the government claiming to represent them.
BJP's acting state president Ravindra Kumar Ray led the protest at Rajdhanwar block in Giridih.
'We've sounded the bugle against this corrupt and incompetent government. Our fight will continue until they are removed from power,' Rai declared.
Former Chief Minister Champai Soren led the agitation in front of the Saraikela block office.
He said the JMM-Congress-RJD alliance had failed on every front. 'Senior citizens and disabled persons haven't received their pensions for months. Payments under the 'Maiya Samman Yojana' have been pending for three to four months. None of the major promises made by this government have been fulfilled,' he said.
Elsewhere, BJP leaders led demonstrations in their respective constituencies -- C.P. Singh in Ranchi; Rajya Sabha MP Aditya Sahu in Kanke; MP Pradeep Verma in Nagari block; MLA Pradeep Prasad in Hazaribagh; MLA Raj Sinha in Dhanbad; and former Leader of Opposition Amar Kumar Bauri in Chandankiyari (Bokaro).
Similar protests were held across other blocks by party MLAs and senior leaders.

Union Minister Kishan Reddy challenges CM, ministers to debate on Centre's role in Telangana development

HYDERABAD: Union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy on Sunday slammed Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy's remarks against the Union government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling them 'baseless and politically motivated.' He urged the chief minister to follow the PM's development model instead of 'blaming the Centre for his own failures.' This comes after Revanth accused Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah of prioritising Gujarat over other states. Addressing a press conference in Hyderabad, the BJP state president challenged Revanth and his Cabinet to a public debate on the Centre's contributions to Telangana. 'He is making allegations without understanding the system,' he said. On the Metro Rail Phase-II project, Kishan said the DPR was submitted just a week ago and is under review. A decision will follow after assessing feasibility. He also said clarity on the BJP's new state president would emerge by Tuesday and efforts were on for a unanimous choice. Accusing the Congress of making false promises and deflecting blame, he said, 'Congress is in power, not BJP. People are watching and will respond in the next Assembly elections.'

'Who's Protecting Him?': BJP Attacks TMC On Kolkata Rape Accused's College Admission

Last Updated: A fresh controversy erupted after the BJP raised serious questions regarding the college admission of Zaib Ahmed, one of the accused in the Kolkata rape case. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) trained its guns on the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) government once again over the Kolkata law student rape case, by raising questions on the college admission of one of the accused. Four accused – identified as Manojit Mishra, 31, Zaib Ahmed, 19, Pramit Mukhopadhyay, 20, and Pinaki Banerjee, 55 – have been arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a 24-year-old law student from South Calcutta Law College in Kasba. A fresh controversy erupted after BJP IT Cell Chief Amit Malviya raised serious questions regarding the college admission of Zaib Ahmed, despite scoring a 'dismal" rank in the Calcutta University Law Entrance Test (CULET). 'Zaib Ahmed, one of the accused in the South Calcutta Law College Rape Case, was admitted to the same college—South Kolkata Law College under Calcutta University—despite securing a dismal 2634 rank in CULET-UG 2024!" he said on X. 'Meanwhile, meritorious and law-abiding students with far better ranks are being denied admission. Welcome to Mamata Banerjee's Bengal—where the rule of law is mocked and institutions are systematically destroyed to protect criminals with political connections." Malviya further demanded to know why Zaib was given a seat in the prestigious law college and who was protecting him from prosecution. Zaib and others have been arrested and charged under multiple sections related to sexual assault and criminal conspiracy. They were accused of raping the law student after the girl rejected a marriage proposal from the prime accused, Manojit Mishra. On Sunday, people from diverse backgrounds united in solidarity, participating in protests against the gang rape of a law college student in Kolkata. Demonstrations took place outside South Calcutta Law College, the alleged crime scene, and Kasba Police Station, where the First Information Report (FIR) was filed. Protests spread to different parts of the city by evening, including Jadavpur, Rashbehari, and Harzra. Supporters of 'Abhaya Mancha" a group created after rape and murder of a trainee doctor at R.G. Kar Hospital and Medical College on August 9, 2024, participated in the protests, along with students and the elderly. The Kolkata Police has formed a five-member special investigation team (SIT) to probe into the alleged gang rape of the student. The police were also trying to find out whether the entire crime was pre-planned or not, a police official said. First Published: June 30, 2025, 12:03 IST

No talks with Maoists as long as they carry arms: Union Minister Amit Shah

HYDERABAD: Reiterating that the Union government was committed to ending Naxalism by March 31, 2026, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday urged Maoists to surrender and join the mainstream. He categorically stated that the Centre would not hold talks with those who continue to bear arms. 'Our policy is no talks with those who have arms in their hands. Give up arms and surrender. If you do not surrender, we have decided to end Naxalism by March 31, 2026. Should we not end the Naxalites who have killed adivasis and police personnel?' Shah said. Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the National Turmeric Board headquarters in Nizamabad, the Union home minister said that while he 'feared that the Congress might provide shelter to Maoists, there was no cause for concern as Narendra Modi was in power at the Centre'. 'The Congress is asking for talks with Maoists. Our government's policy is clear — no talks with those who hold weapons. Surrender and join the mainstream,' he said. Shah noted that in the Northeast, 10,000 individuals had surrendered and joined the mainstream, with some contesting elections at district and Assembly levels. 'In the last one-and-a-half years, around 2,000 Maoists surrendered,' he added. 'From Telangana's soil, I want to ask those who speak of protecting Naxals: What answer will you give to the families of police personnel and adivasis who lost their lives in Naxal violence? Naxals have obstructed development in adivasi areas for decades. What is your answer?' he asked. Shah accused the BRS of indulging in massive corruption during its 10-year rule. He alleged irregularities in Dharani, Kaleshwaram, Singareni and other projects, and questioned whether Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy initiated even one case against those involved. Shah claimed that the family of former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao used Telangana as an 'ATM' and alleged that the state has now become an 'ATM for the Delhi Congress'.
