A recently released WWE star has commented on AEW running a show in his hometown, sparking conversation about his next move. The star in question is Joe Coffey, formerly of NXT's Gallus faction.
AEW is scheduled to hold an episode of Dynamite in Glasgow, Scotland, in August. The event will take place at the OVO Hydro arena.
Joe Coffey on AEW's Glasgow Show
On a recent episode of the "Reffin' It Up" podcast (transcript from Fightful), Joe Coffey noted the significance of the upcoming AEW event. He pointed out that it is taking place in his hometown and in a familiar venue.
"AEW have a show in my hometown in Glasgow on August 20th, which is very interesting," Coffey said. "And The Hydro, the same arena that ICW ran so, that's very interesting..."
WWE Release and Scrapped Plans
Joe Coffey, along with his Gallus stablemates Mark Coffey and Wolfgang, was released from his WWE contract on May 2, 2025. The Scottish faction had been a consistent presence on the NXT brand for several years.

Following his release, Coffey revealed there had been discussions about Gallus moving to the main roster. The plan would have seen them working alongside fellow countryman Drew McIntyre.
Joe Coffey's Current Status
Despite the potential interest in the AEW Glasgow show, Coffey's immediate future has a significant hurdle. He has recently stated that he is "landlocked" in the United States.
His work visa was tied to his WWE contract, complicating his ability to travel and wrestle internationally for now. Coffey first appeared in WWE during an NXT event at the Download Festival in 2018. He, his brother Mark, and Wolfgang officially formed Gallus on the January 9, 2019, episode of NXT UK.
WWE broke into the United Kingdom wrestling scene, NXT UK, began with a championship tournament in January 2017, won by Tyler Bate. The brand officially launched its weekly show in October 2018, establishing a platform for European talent.
NXT UK featured its own set of championships, including the prestigious United Kingdom Championship, famously held by GUNTHER (then WALTER) for a record 870 days. The brand developed future main roster stars like Rhea Ripley and Pete Dunne. In September 2022, the brand held its final event, Worlds Collide, unifying its titles with the NXT championships before going on hiatus.

TNA's Carlos Silva Expects A Lot More Excitement Between NXT/TNA Through 2025

Carlos Silva is excited for where TNA is headed. TNA President Carlos Silva spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard to promote this weekend's Slammiversary pay-per-view. The event will feature several NXT stars who crossed over as part of the ongoing partnership with TNA. The talent exchange has been going on for the better part of a year, but really 'accelerated in a big way' in recent months, including then-TNA Champion Joe Hendry's appearance at WrestleMania 41. Silva says both sides are focused on understanding where storylines are going, finding ways to capitalize on the biggest shows for each respective brand. He says pro wrestling is a business that thrives on keeping fans happy, and believes they've done just that so far. Carlos Silva on the NXT/TNA partnership 'Obviously, WrestleMania, [that's] the biggest show on the planet with the biggest brand. It's great that TNA was invited and part of that. Then you look at what happened in Tampa at Battleground with NXT. Big show for them, I was there. The arena was packed. So many people, and again, the storyline just continued with Trick [Williams] and Joe. You got [Mike] Santana in the middle of that as well. And now, we got a title for title match on the women's side, which is super exciting. And I just think we continue to find ways to move our fans' excitement from brand to brand. Both up. Both down. And then in the case of maybe AAA sideways. 'We have done some stuff with [AAA]. TripleMania was super fun down in Monterrey, Mexico, like a month ago. And again, the team there, they just been really easy to work with and our wrestlers, Joe [Hendry] had a great time in Monterrey. He ran in, came into the stadium to the Joe Hendry song in Spanish. How cool was that? So, I just think there's a lot of it and even this last weekend, Santino and Iguana were in a match together, a mixed tag match, which was interesting. And again, the fans loved it. So, I think we are just going to keep doing it. If the fans like it — we are in the business of making fans happy. That's what this sports and entertainment business is all about. And so far, so good. So, we are keeping at it and I think it has become pretty easy to work together for sure.' Carlos Silva on if there are any limits on the partnership with WWE TNA has sent its talent to NXT, and vice versa. It seems like there's some sort of integration on every show now, including NXT's Trick Williams serving as the current TNA Champion. RAW and SmackDown talent haven't 'crossed the line' yet, but Silva says that there aren't any restrictions on talent trade-offs and the excitement should continue through the end of the year. 'Not really. It's really just the ebb and flow of the weeks and the months, really,' Silva explained. 'We are just logistically working through all of that and how we move the wrestlers through the storylines across it. We try to plan out as best we can. But, in this wrestling business too. And people told me, I've been in the live sports entertainment business my whole career. You got to stay light on your feet, you got to be willing to pivot. You got to be willing to make changes and we are, and the partnership has also been that way with us. So, it's really been great, and I think it'll continue. I think we are going to see a lot of excitement through the Fall and into the Winter as well.' Carlos Silva on TNA's TV deal Carlos Silva previously made headlines when he said that TNA was negotiating for a new TV deal that would see them go live 52 weeks a year. Silva said there's no update on that now, but he has taken calls about it to 'keep the momentum going.' He believes what they do at Slammiversary will help push those deals forward and create more buzz, getting them closer to the finish line. 'When you create great buzz, people want to work with you,' Silva said. Silva shared his excitement for Slammiversary, sharing that he believes performing in a large arena like UBS Arena will elevate everyone involved. 'I think TNA is long overdue to be elevated to that quality. And for all of the wrestlers, we talk with the wrestlers a lot. We spend a lot of time together. I know that they all perform when they get elevated, too. I think that is just going to elevate everyone,' he explained, touting the strength of Sunday's lineup. 'I'm just excited for being on such a big stage for our wrestlers. I look forward to seeing them perform for all the fans and just having the place erupt. It is going to be great.' TNA Slammiversary takes place on Sunday, July 20 at the UBS Arena on Long Island. Trick Williams Wants To Face The Greatest TNA Champion Of All Time

Trick Williams wants to prove himself as the TNA World Champion. WWE NXT Superstar and current TNA World Champion Trick Williams recently spoke with Mike Johnson of PWInsider. When asked who he'd like to defend the title against, Williams called out arguably the greatest TNA World Champion of all time, RAW Superstar AJ Styles. 'I want AJ Styles,' Williams said. 'I told Atlanta that I'm the greatest TNA Champion of all time, and the audacity of that crowd to turn and say 'AJ Styles'? Completely disrespectful. There's only one way to get to the bottom of this. Gimme AJ Styles. Let me prove myself. Let me show everybody how legit Trick Williams is. That's the one I want. Trick Williams versus AJ Styles.' Since the partnership between WWE and TNA began, fans have been clamoring to see Styles step into a TNA ring one more time. Perhaps this is the path to making that happen. AJ Styles' Potential TNA Slammiversary Opponent Seemingly Revealed

It seems we have a pretty good idea of what AJ Styles will be doing later tonight at TNA Slammiversary. Thursday night, in the closing moments of TNA iMPACT, the company revealed its worst-kept secret this week: WWE Superstar The Phenomenal AJ Styles would be appearing this Sunday at Slammiversary. But what exactly will he be doing on the show? If we look at two separate interviews that have taken place over the past few months, we seemingly have our answer. Earlier this week, Frankie Kazarian sat down with Mike Johnson of PWInsider to discuss this weekend's Slammiversary pay-per-view. During the interview, Kazarian touched on his yet-to-be-revealed role for Sunday's event. 'Nothing has been announced for me,' Kazarian said. 'However—biggest show of the year, celebration of TNA itself, UBS Arena, one of our biggest venues ever—my presence will be felt. I will go ahead and guarantee that right now. Call my shot, however you wanna say it, however you wanna frame it. Frankie Kazarian, the king of TNA, will make his presence felt at Slammiversary.' Later in the interview, Kazarian offered his interesting thoughts on Styles' return on the show. 'When you say [Phenomenal], it holds a lot of weight with TNA fans,' Kazarian said. 'I'll be the first to greet [AJ Styles]—but I will also let him know that this is now the house that Kaz built. He's welcome in it, but when I tell him to leave, he's gotta leave.' AJ Styles teased a match with Frankie Kazarian in TNA months ago If Kazarian's comments aren't enough of a hint, Styles spoke on the partnership between WWE and TNA back in April during a Fanatics panel at WrestleMania 41 weekend. 'I love [the WWE and TNA partnership]. I still have a couple of friends there, and I would love to have the opportunity to go back and wrestle at least one more match in TNA,' AJ Styles said. As for who he would pick as his opponent? 'Frankie Kazarian. 100 percent,' Styles said. Well, there you have it. WrestleZone will have live coverage of TNA Slammiversary later on this evening.
