Michael Jackson biopic's exhausting runtime confirmed in major update
The hugely-anticipated film was first announced in 2023, and will focus on the King of Pop's rollercoaster career in the spotlight before his death in 2009, at the age of 50.
His nephew, Jaafar Jackson, will make his screen debut as the Thriller singer alongside Colman Domingo, Katherine Jackson, Kat Graham and Miles Teller, while Antoine Fuqua signed up to direct.
While some got a glimpse at footage from Michael last year at CinemaCon, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer has now revealed that the anticipated release date has been pushed back.
In the Q4 2025 earnings call, via Variety, he also confirmed that it will have a run-time of around three-and-a-half hours in total.
'In regard to our Michael Jackson biopic, we're excited about the three-and-a-half hours of amazing footage from producer Graham King and director Antoine Fuqua, and we will be announcing a definitive release strategy and timing in the next few weeks,' the outlet reports he said.
'I would note that it is likely we will move Michael out of the fiscal year which will impact fiscal 2026 financial results but will bolster an already strong fiscal 2027 slate.'
The fiscal year ends in March 2026, so the film is now set to premiere at some point after April 1, 2026.
Michael was originally slated to be released last month, but reshoots were still taking place in March, meaning the date was then shuffled to October.
The project reportedly has an eyewatering budget of $155million, with speculation that it could be split into multiple parts due to the extensive footage.
According to Deadline, Lionsgate film chief Adam Fogelson touched on the speculation of a two-part biopic on the call, promising that more information will be available soon.
'At the end, when you look at the music library, when you look at what Michael Jackson was able to deliver in terms of music and contributions to art, whether or not that can be fit into one movie comfortably or not is a question that we are absolutely asking,' he continued.
'We'll be ready to answer more specifically in the coming weeks. More Trending
Addressing the huge runtime, he added: 'Any number of the biggest motion pictures over the last ten or 20 years have had first cuts of movies that were well in excess three and a half hours.
'And when Jon mentioned the footage, it wasn't a cut, it was an accumulation of scenes that we've seen.'
The movie, when we eventually get our hands on it, will offer fans a 'riveting and honest portrayal of the brilliant man who became the King of Pop.
'The film presents his triumphs and tragedies on an epic, cinematic scale – from his human side and personal struggles to his undeniable creative genius, exemplified by his most iconic performances.'

Vanessa Kirby confirms huge Fantastic Four secret everyone is talking about
Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Vanessa Kirby has confirmed the truth behind that Fantastic Four mid-credits sequence. The British actress, 37, plays Sue Storm—or the Invisible Woman, to those in the know—in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Sue makes up one quarter of Marvel's First Family, appearing alongside husband Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal), hotheaded brother Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn) and human rock face The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) as the titular Fantastic Four. With the Fantastic Four's Marvel Cinematic Universe debut out now, audiences have been flocking in droves to witness their arrival. The team may have their hands full battling cosmic world-eater Galactus and his herald, the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner), but there'll be an even bigger villain on fans' minds once the end credits finish rolling. With the cat out of the bag, Kirby has clarified what Doctor Doom's cameo at the end of the film means… and confirmed that star Robert Downey Jr. is already very much back. In the first of two post-credits sequences, Sue is shocked to find a menacing hooded figure looming over her young son, Franklin. Fans will already know this to be the Fantastic Four's longtime nemesis, Doctor Doom, who will be played by Robert Downey Jr. in the upcoming sequel, Avengers: Doomsday. Although the villain's face is obscured, Kirby has revealed that it was indeed Downey Jr. behind that hood. 'Yeah! Robert's never not been on set,' she told Variety when asked whetherRDJ was present for the shoot. She continued: 'He's always there. He is our leader. We call him our Godfather. He's looked after us. This sequence was filmed by the Russo Brothers as part of their work on Avengers: Doomsday and shot while Kirby was pregnant in real life. 'It's such a joy working with the Russos and him, because they've had such deep collaboration for so long,' she revealed. 'And it's been amazing being pregnant and working on Avengers. I felt so inspired and so relieved that I've been so taken care of. It's been a really beautiful journey. Robert is just doing incredible work. I'm so excited.' It was announced last year that Downey Jr. would be returning to the long-running franchise, six years after being killed off in Avengers: Endgame. This came as Earth's mightiest heroes faced off against purple menace Thanos (Josh Brolin) for the fate of the universe. This spelt the end of Downey Jr.'s career-defining stint as Tony Stark—aka Iron Man—sacrificing himself at the end of the film to secure the future of reality as we know it. A few years later, it was confirmed that he would be returning, albeit in an entirely different role. The actor's appointment to the post was unveiled at last year's Comic-Con, when a cloaked Downey Jr. removed his mask to reveal that he would be playing Doom, real name Victor von Doom. This character was previously played by late Nip/Tuck actor Julian McMahon in the 2005 and 2007 films and by Toby Kebbell in the 2015 reboot. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Doom's brief appearance at the end of First Steps gives little away as to what he has planned, although we do know it involves Sue and Reed's infant son. He will spearhead a massive cast in Avengers: Doomsday, which is currently set for release on December 26, 2026. More Trending Names already announced include Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright and Paul Rudd, as well as X-Men actors Sir Patrick Stewart, Sir Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn and James Marsden. Of his return to the MCU, Downey Jr. joked: 'New mask, same task. 'What did I tell you? I like playing complicated characters.' The Fantastic Four: First Steps is out in UK cinemas now. Got a story? Paris Jackson sparks concern as she appears to cry during solo stroll weeks after anniversary of dad Michael's death
Michael Jackson 's daughter Paris Jackson sparked concern on Wednesday while taking a walk in Malibu. The 27-year-old model and musician became visibly emotional and appeared to burst into tears during her solo stroll. The outing comes at a difficult time for Paris, just weeks after the 16th anniversary of her famous father's death and following fan backlash over her scheduled performance that day. Dressed for the sunny weather, Paris wore a brown short-sleeve shirt, grey biking shorts, and a pair of chunky sneakers with grey socks. She also accessorized with a number of bracelets and necklaces. Her platinum blonde tresses were pulled into a messy ponytail. Last month Paris also seemed to be showing the strain when she was spotted on a tense outing with her fiancé Justin Long, 46, in Malibu. Paris' iconic father Michael died on June 25, 2009 at age 50 from acute Propofol intoxication, which caused the singer to go into cardiac arrest. Last month the daughter of Debbie Rowe fired back at her fans via Instagram Stories, after they criticized her for having a performance on the day of his death anniversary. According to an account from People, Paris said to her five million followers, 'So people are mad again. I guess one of the dates I'm supposed to be going out on tour (with Incubus and Manchester Orchestra) happens to be June 25, which is a very negative anniversary for me in my life and my family.' She continued in the video post, 'So, what I guess I have to explain to these people is that when you're not headlining these shows, you don't pick what date you perform.' The blonde music artist also underscored that she is not getting lavish accommodations as an opening act. 'It's just me and my acoustic guitar and my sound guy, who happens to be my fiancé,' she said in reference to her husband-to-be, Justin. 'So we're gonna be in a soccer mom van.' Paris noted that she volunteered to be part of the tour and wouldn't step down over the date. 'So, I'm gonna tell 'em, "Sorry, guys, we can't perform on this date?"' she posited, facetiously, adding, 'F*** you.' The songstress also reposted, via Instagram Stories, what appeared to be a comment or caption from a fan account. It read in part, 'Note to admins: It is unacceptable to judge someone else's pain and grief based on information from the internet. 'Judging Paris' respect for her father from an outside perspective is unfair. June 25 may intensify our pain as fans, but she lives with the loss of her father daily.' Paris added a simple response: 'thx fam.' In March it was announced by Incubus that Jackson and Manchester Orchestra would be hitting the road with them for their Morning View + The Hits tour throughout the US and UK. On June 25 - the 16th anniversary of Michael's death - the tour was in Nashville, Tennessee. Michael had three children including Paris with his second wife Debbie, including Prince, 28, and Bigi, 23. Ahead of the anniversary last month Paris was also seen tearing up before her fiancé Justin tried to comfort her with an embrace. Earlier this month she posed topless in a racy Instagram snap alongside Justin in California. Paris looked relaxed as she enjoyed the sunshine and a dip in the water with the producer. In another snap, she smiled for a selfie with her partner, who she got engaged to in December after two years of dating. She captioned one of the stories 'home sweet California', in reference to growing up in the state on her late father's Neverland ranch. Paris and Justin met in 2022 and their relationship was professional before it was romantic. 'Happy birthday my sweet blue,' she wrote in a birthday tribute announcing their engagement last December. She added, 'Doing life with you these last years has been an indescribable whirlwind, and I couldn't dream of anyone more perfect for me to do it all with. Thank you for letting me be yours. I love you.' According to his LinkedIn Justin attended college in Indiana at Grace College & Seminary, where he graduated in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in marketing and business administration. He transitioned to music full-time in 2013 and has worked with artists including Grace Potter, The Wombats and Sleater-Kinney.

Bend It Like Beckham sequel in the works, director says
A sequel to Bend It Like Beckham is in development more than 20 years after its original release, the film's director has confirmed. The 2002 comedy-drama starred Parminder Nagra and Keira Knightley, who chase careers in professional football despite their parents' wishes. Directed by Gurinder Chadha, it is credited with inspiring a generation of women to take up football. Chadha teased the sequel in Basel, Switzerland, on Saturday (July 26), where England are set to take on Spain in the final of the Women's Euros on Sunday (July 27). A sequel to 'BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM' is in the works. (Source: Deadline) — DiscussingFilm (@DiscussingFilm) July 26, 2025 She has earmarked 2027 for the next instalment, to mark both the film's 25th anniversary and the FIFA Women's World Cup in Brazil, BBC News reports. Chadha said she was still unsure what form the sequel might take, but suggested it could either be another film or a television series. "I'm pretty certain that everyone's going to want to come back" Discussing with Deadline about the sequel, Chadha shared: "I'm excited to revisit the original characters and revive the enduring story and build on the legacy we helped to create for the women's game." The original cast members 'are aware that a sequel is being developed, but they obviously want to see a script before they commit". 'I'm pretty certain that everyone's going to want to come back,' she adds hopefully. She added: 'Everything hinges on the script and if the original cast likes it. 'I am working really hard to make sure every character I bring back has a decent arc and scenes.' Alongside that, there is the hope that members of the current England squad would be "queuing up" to take on cameo roles. Although the environment around women's football has changed significantly since the film's release, Chadha says there is still some work to be done. She explained: "A lot has changed since the original movie, but I think that people still don't think that women should play football. "There are people who still don't take it seriously, although the Lionesses are riding high.
