Hybe to host Asia-wide music film festival in July
Under the title 'Hybe Cine Fest in Asia,' a series of concert films and a music visual featuring its four artists will come to cinemas, a joint effort with global distributor Trafalgar Releasing.
Viewers will be able to sing along the reedited versions of concert films: 'Map of the Soul On:E' from BTS, 'Be the Sun – Seoul' from Seventeen, 'Act : Sweet Mirage Finale' from Tomorrow X Together, and 'Fate in Seoul' from Enhypen.
A mash-up of 22 music videos from ten artists, including the aforementioned four as well as Le Sserafim, &Team, Boynextdoor, TWS, Illit and Katseye, will also be available on large screens with Romanized subtitles.
The fest will kick off on July 10 and will run for four days in nine regions — Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Hong Kong and Taiwan — and until Aug. 7 in Japan.
At least one theater in each region will operate as a 'special location' where visitors can enjoy a range of experiences and purchase merchandises.
The event was first held last year in 11 countries in Latin America and drew over 260,000 fans.

These Korean grad photos might be the best thing online today
Korean high school students are often known for their intense academic competition, but that doesn't mean they've lost their sense of humor. Uijeongbu High School in Gyeonggi Province, which goes viral every year for its quirky graduation photos, is once again breaking the internet after posting this year's batch Tuesday on Instagram. The all-boys school has gained fame both in Korea and abroad for its unique yearbook tradition, which began in 2009. Each year, students dress up to reflect current trends, viral moments or iconic figures in Korean pop culture. Among this year's standout costumes were two students who recreated a screen capture of Hybe Chairman Bang Si-hyuk and internet personality BJ Kwajeup Seyeon, who were spotted crossing a Beverly Hills street last August in a YouTube video. One student wore a bob wig along with a patterned tube top and miniskirt, while the other sported a blue knit sweater, beige pants and sunglasses, which perfectly mimicked the original look. Other pop culture figures also made appearances, including Blackpink's Rose and Bruno Mars from their 'APT.' music video. Students also got creative with costumes that resemble dancer Kyoka's look from 'Street Woman Fighter,' a Buldak Ramen package, and even characters from the Japanese game Pikmin. One student took a more satirical approach, dressing up as a USIM card, referencing the crisis at telecom giant SK Telecom caused by a massive hacking incident in April. Meanwhile, the school said it is working closely with students to pre-approve concepts before the shoot to prevent misunderstandings. Back in 2020, broadcaster Sam Okyere criticized a student's parody of a meme featuring Ghanaians, calling it racially insensitive. In another case, a student sparked backlash from fans after dressing up as singer Park Yoo-chun, who at the time was accused of sexual assault.

Can Hybe make next ‘KPop Demon Hunters'? New film in works with Paramount
Set for 2027 release, the feature stars 'KPop Demon Hunters' voice actress Yoo Ji-young and singer Eric Nam Hybe America, the North American branch of BTS' agency Hybe, is teaming up with Paramount Pictures to co-produce a new K-pop-themed feature film, the companies said Wednesday. The film, which aims for global box office success akin to the recent animated hit 'KPop Demon Hunters,' is set to premiere in theaters in early 2027. Though the title is yet to be announced, the film will center on a Korean American teenager who defies her family's wishes and auditions for a reality TV competition with dreams of becoming part of a K-pop girl group. Yoo Ji-young, who voiced the youngest Huntrix member Joy in 'KPop Demon Hunters' and singer Eric Nam, known for his lead role as surgical resident Yona Yoon in the 2023 Hollywood drama 'Transplant,' will take on the lead roles. The production will begin filming in mid-September and will be shot entirely on location in Korea — marking the first time a major Hollywood studio has conducted a full production solely in Korea. Korean American director Benson Lee will helm the project, with a screenplay written by Eileen Shim. Producers include James Shin, president of film and television at Hybe America, along with Arthur Spector and Joshua Davis of Epic Magazine and Hybe board member Scooter Braun. Executive producers include Joshuah Bearman, John Zaozirny and Scott Manson, all from Epic Magazine. Bryan Oh, senior vice president at Paramount Pictures, will oversee the project on behalf of the studio. 'This film is my love letter to K-pop — a world filled with energy, passion, magic and an incredible community of support,' said Lee in a statement. 'I'm deeply grateful to Paramount Pictures, the production team for their unwavering commitment and everyone involved in bringing this story to life.' Shin of Hybe America said, 'We are thrilled to partner with Paramount Pictures for this historic opportunity to bring a K-pop story to global audiences. The film will highlight the dedication, artistry and global impact of K-pop, while also delivering a universal message about chasing your dreams against all odds.'

Jungkook becomes first Asian soloist to hit 100m Spotify streams on every original track
Jungkook proves enduring global impact with milestone achievement Jungkook, who is both loved as a talented soloist and as the youngest member of global sensation BTS, has set another historic global record on Spotify. According to the World Music Awards, on Monday, Jungkook became the first Asian solo artist in history to surpass 100 million streams on every original track released via his Spotify account. Among the 47 tracks registered under his profile, 18 are original songs, excluding remixes. The World Music Awards honor the world's bestselling music artists. Jungkook is also one of only three artists in the world ― alongside Billie Eilish and Harry Styles ― to achieve 100 million streams on every original solo track on Spotify, according to international outlet Oneily Vibe. Jungkook's most-streamed track is 'Seven,' which had amassed 2.4 billion streams as of Monday. It is followed by 'Standing Next to You' with 1.2 billion streams and a collaboration track with Charlie Puth, 'Left and Right,' which has garnered over 1.1 billion streams. "Seven" holds records both for racking up streams the fastest and achieving the highest number ever for a song by an Asian artist on the platform, which was founded in 2006. Jungkook has continued to hit milestone after milestone as a soloist. In 2023, he was recognized by the Guinness World Records for becoming the fastest artist in history to reach 1 billion Spotify streams, achieving the feat in only 409 days with just three solo tracks. Moreover, his total Spotify streams have now surpassed 9.2 billion, making him not only the fastest Asian act to reach that mark, but also the first K-pop soloist to do so. Jungkook completed his mandatory military service on June 11 and is currently gearing up for the full unit comeback of BTS. Early this month, the group announced plans for a new album and world tour, aiming for a release in spring next year.
