Russell Wilson left stunned as sold-out crowd BOO him at MetLife ahead of his first season with the Giants

Daily Mail17 hours ago
Russell Wilson is the new face of the New York Giants but the veteran NFL quarterback was given a brutal reception by the crowd at MetLife Stadium on Sunday night.
The 36-year-old and his family were among the crowd at WWE SummerSlam, which took place at his new home stadium over the weekend.
Russell even brought a specially-designed Giants championship belt. But when he appeared on the jumbotron, many inside MetLife booed the quarterback.
The 82,000-seater stadium is, of course, also the home of the Giants' rivals, the Jets, with the two New York teams meeting at MetLife for a preseason game on August 16.
Wilson is a 10-time Pro Bowler and a Super Bowl winner who spent last season at the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The veteran quarterback joined New York in March after agreeing a one-year deal worth up to $21million with the Giants.

He has moved to the East Coast with his wife, singer Ciara, and their four children. The Giants also signed Jameis Winston and drafted Jaxson Dart but Wilson was recently named the starter for 2025.
Brian Daboll's team will begin the season at the Washington Commanders before travelling to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2.
Wilson's first chance to wow the crowd at MetLife will come on September 21, when the Kansas City Chiefs are in town.
On Sunday night, he watched from the front row as Brock Lesnar controversially returned to WWE after two years in exile due to his alleged involvement in the Vince McMahon lawsuit
Lesnar last appeared for the company at SummerSlam in 2023 and was written off television despite being one of the company's biggest stars at the time allegedly due to his ties to the McMahon litigation.

Astros seek another offensive outburst vs. Marlins

August 5 - The Houston Astros rediscovered their offense on Monday against the host Miami Marlins, and the visitors will attempt to keep it going in the second game of a three-game series on Tuesday. After getting swept in a three-game weekend set by the Boston Red Sox and managing a total of five runs, Houston responded with 11 hits in an 8-2 victory at Miami. "They are an aggressive offense," Marlins manager Clayton McCullough said. "They strung some hits together." Houston's Jeremy Pena, Yanier Diaz and Cam Smith each collected two hits on Monday, and they combined for four RBIs. The strong offensive performance led the Astros to just their third win in 11 games. The result halted Miami's five-game winning streak, the club's second-best run of the year. The Marlins have been one of the best teams in baseball over the past two months, going 30-15 since June 13. On Tuesday, the Marlins will start right-hander Cal Quantrill (4-8, 4.79 ERA). The Astros had not announced a starter as of late Monday night. Quantrill, who is 1-2 with a 4.38 ERA in six career appearances (four starts) against Houston, has allowed just one run over his past three starts, covering 16 innings. He registered 10 strikeouts and just two walks in that span. The Marlins -- who lost 100 games last year -- entered the series with a .500 record, making them one of baseball's best comeback stories this year. Among their surprising contributors is utility man Javier Sanoja, who is 4-for-7 with three homers in his past two games. The 5-foot-7, 150-pound Venezuela native had hit just one homer in 91 major league games before going deep twice on Friday against the New York Yankees. He added a solo shot on Monday. "Power surge from Javier Sanoja!" McCullough said with a smile. "He is a really good baseball player. He is always prepared." Astros left fielder Jesus Sanchez was prepared to face his former teammates on Monday, four days after Miami traded him to Houston in exchange for pitcher Ryan Gusto, infielder Chase Jaworsky and outfielder Esmil Valencia. On Monday, Sanchez hit an RBI double off ex-teammate and Dominican countryman Sandy Alcantara. Sanchez enjoyed the moment, laughing in Alcantara's direction. "He's a great hitter and a great teammate," Alcantara said. "He was laughing, but I don't like laughing. He knows that. "It was great to see him on the field, but it was sad to see him on the other team." The RBI was Sanchez's first with his new team. He is 4-for-15 (.267) in four games with the Astros. Another Houston newcomer, Carlos Correa, is 4-for-17 (.235) with a homer and two RBIs since he was acquired last week from the Minnesota Twins. The three-time All-Star was needed because Isaac Paredes -- who had been terrific at third base this year -- sustained a serious right hamstring injury on July 19. Paredes, who has posted 19 homers, 50 RBIs and an .829 OPS in 94 games this season, reportedly declined to have season-ending hamstring surgery. Instead, he will try to rehabilitate the injury in the hopes of returning late this season. "He is dedicating himself to getting back," Astros general manager Dana Brown said. "That gives me some optimism. He's watching what's going on here (with the team), and he wants to be a part of it." --Field Level Media

Beloved WWE star's contract 'expires this weekend' with no deal in sight

A top WWE Raw superstar could be leaving in a matter of days. This weekend, the current deals for Karrion Kross and his real life wife Scarlett are set to expire, and reports suggest neither star have settled on a new contract. After months of fans rallying behind the former NXT Champion and loudly chanting his name at SummerSlam over the weekend, the duo could be on their way out. As reported by Fightful Select, the pair – who didn't feature on Monday Night Raw this week – haven't been offered new deals days after he lost to Sami Zayn at the stadium show. However, the outlet added that neither star has been told their contracts will be lapsing, which could suggest there's still hope they'll remain with the company. They haven't addressed the situation publicly, but Karrion did respond on social media after fans chanting 'we want Kross' at boss Triple H was brushed off as 'we want Brock' chants. 'I heard you loud and clear,' he wrote on X, before adding: 'Unreal. They write the scripts… But the fans write the truth. Thank you, Tick tock.' It's safe to say a lot of fans are disappointed at the prospect of Karrion and Scarlett leaving, with plenty of people pointing to their potential as major players. 'Karrion Kross has to be up there with the biggest waste of talent in the WWE of all time. Hopefully this isn't if for him though,' wrote @r0w4n_k3r1m. And @chris_xcom added: 'Wherever Kross lands, if it's renewed with the WWE or elsewhere – Kross and Scarlet are going to be serious draws. He was just starting to come into his own for his character. And Scarlet just needs the opportunity.' However, after Seth Rollins recently fooled everyone with his injury at Saturday Night's Main Event, some people are remaining sceptical about this situation. 'We definitely getting worked lmaooo,' joked @johnathanvolk, with other fans expecting them to remain with the company. The duo first signed with WWE in 2020, remaining with the company until November the following year when they were both released. By August 2022, Karrion and Scarlett had been re-signed and returned on SmackDown, feuding with the likes of Drew McIntyre and AJ Styles. For much of 2024, he fronted the Final Testament group with Authors of Pain, and feuded with The Pride and the Wyatt Family. This year, he's been featured weekly on Raw – albeit sometimes in short promos in between the main action – but his merch has sold well for WWE, and fan support has been steadily growing. Hulk Hogan 'begged for forgiveness' in final conversation with estranged daughter

Brooke Hogan hadn't spoken to her father for years after their relationship broke down but she managed to reconcile with the former WWE star just days before his death Wrestling icon Hulk Hogan begged his estranged daughter, Brooke, for forgiveness just days before he died aged 71. Hogan, born Terry Gene Bollea, passed away on July 24 after suffering a heart attack. ‌ For years, the retired ex- WWE star hadn't been in contact with 37-year-old Brooke after their relationship broke down. That same fractured relationship was brought into the spotlight when she shared an emotional tribute on social media following Hogan's death. ‌ Now it's emerged that they had a 'tearful conversation' only a few days before he passed away at his home in Florida. According to the National Enquirer, Brooke reached out to her dad and they reconcile their relationship. ‌ "It was a tearful conversation, albeit a short one," an insider told the outlet. "Brooke told her dad how much she loved him, how much she missed him. Hulk said he loved her, and he was sorry. "That was huge for Brooke to hear. Everyone knew how stubborn Hulk could be, but his fading health obviously softened him up. He knew he was dying and begged her forgiveness." The report adds that Brooke is still estranged from her mother, Linda. Along with 35-year-old brother Nick, Brooke was one of two children who Linda had with the former wrestler, who went on to marry two more times following their 2009 divorce. Five days after Hogan's death, Brooke took to Instagram and released a statement, insisting that their bond had 'never broken', despite him never meeting her twins. "My dad's blood runs through my veins. His eyes shine through my children. And our bond had never broken, not even in his final moments," she wrote. "We had a connection deeper than words, one that spanned lifetimes. I am so grateful I knew the real version of him. Not just the one the world viewed through a carefully curated lens. "We shared a quiet, sacred bond, one that could be seen and felt by anyone who witnessed us together. When he left this earth, it felt like part of my spirit left with him. I felt it before the news even reached us. ‌ "He used to remind me, 'All of this is temporary and I'll always find my way back to you'. I truly believe that we will find each other in every lifetime. "I know he's at peace out, out of pain, and at a place as beautiful as he imaged. He used to speak about this moment with such wonder and hope. Like meeting God was the greatest championship he'd ever have." In a subsequent Instagram post, Brooke said: "My Dearest Daddy, You were my everything, and I will always be your girl. I am PROUD to be your daughter - for all the love, light, and goodness you brought into this world. "Thank you for choosing me in this lifetime, and for loving me so deeply. Our bond is eternal. That truth brings me comfort and hope, even in your absence. I love you more than all the stars in the sky, 4LifeAfterLife. Forever yours, Brooke."
