Pat McAfee rips fans' response to why he has missed WWE Raw commentary duties

New York Post4 days ago

Pat McAfee has notably been missing from WWE's 'Raw' for the past three weeks, and he explained on Monday what has him on the sidelines.
'I was getting pretty exhausted there,' he said on Monday's 'The Pat McAfee Show' episode as the reason for his absence.
But many fans were not interested in what he had to say, or whether or not he appeared back on the show at all and caused McAfee to lash out a bit.

'I was getting pretty exhausted,' the former All-Pro Colts punter posted Wednesday to X. 'I produce/host a 5 day a week show, have been on the go every week since Dublin last year before College Football.. plus I run my growing company with 14 employees and have a 2 year old daughter.'
''YOU'RE NOT EXHAUSTED ENOUGH BITCH.. NEED YA TO TAKE A DIRT NAP' ~ The IWC (Internet Wrestling Community),' McAfee added on an X post, imitating the wrestling fans who came for him after he revealed his exhaustion.

McAfee then added 11 screenshots of fans on X tearing him apart for his absence, clearly not missing him.
'Trust us [McAfee] no one cares that you are gone,' one user said. 'In fact we are enjoying it.'
'We're also pretty exhausted when he is on commentary,' another said.

McAfee has been the lead color commentator for Raw since the show debuted on Netflix this year, joining Michael Cole in 2025 directly after the college football season ended, as he had been a host for ESPN's 'College Gameday.' WWE is a 52-week a year schedule for Raw, plus premium live events.

All the while, the former Indianapolis Colt continued hosting his daily self-named show, which also took a bump in busyness with the Indiana Pacers making a run to the NBA Finals.
Wade Barrett filled in for McAfee the first week and Corey Graves took the chair next to Cole the past two weeks.

While he didn't confirm, McAfee hinted on Monday that he may be back for Saturday's 'Night of Champions' show in Saudi Arabia.
'Thank you all so much,' McAfee humorously concluded his X post addressing his absence to the haters. 'Excited for the future of my life.'

Kirk Herbstreit reacts to Lee Corso's last GameDay being at Ohio State

Perfect setting for one last ride!Coach's 'First Love' as he says!! If you've tuned into ESPN's College GameDay through the years, there's one thing that has become pretty apparent. Former Ohio State quarterback and current GameDay analyst Kirk Herbstreit has a very good relationship with host Lee Corso. The two have a chemistry and mutual regard for each other that has gone on for almost three decades. In fact, when Corso has been absent from the show for health reasons, Herbstreit has always been right there wishing his friend well and expressing his gratitude for what he means to him and college football. So it will be with great respect and reflection that Herbstreit and the rest of the College GameDay crew pay tribute to Corso when the show hits Columbus for the massive collision between Texas and Ohio State on Aug. 30. It's the same location that Corso started the headgear tradition by donning the Brutus head in a game between OSU and Penn State on Oct. 5, 1996. But not everyone is happy about it. Dan Corso, Lee's son, expressed his desire that his father's last ride be in Tallahassee on the same date for the matchup between Alabama and Florida State, where Corso played quarterback and cornerback and was also on the baseball team. Herbstreit, though, responded to the confirmation that Ohio Stadium as the last location for his buddy as a perfect ending, showing support for his friend and for what it'll mean for GameDay fans and college football fans in general. Not only should the game be much-anticipated, but you can bet the GameDay crew is putting together plenty of moments and reflections from what Corso has meant to college football through the years. What a poetic ending to Corso's career in front of the camera for ESPN and GameDay. Is this the beginning of the end for WWE's John Cena heel run?

Are we looking at the end of the John Cena heel run? Given what a surprise the big turn was in the first place (I still don't think a single person saw it coming), it's interesting how many people are now confidently predicting exactly how and when it will end. And to be honest, they probably have good reason to be confident. One thing is for sure: After yesterday's WWE Night of Champions event, we are heading for a John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes rematch at this year's SummerSlam. That was effectively confirmed the second that Rhodes defeated Randy Orton to become King of the Ring, before taking to the mic to make his intentions clear: 'At SummerSlam,' Rhodes declared, 'I will get my ball back.' Expect an official match graphic to appear on the weekly shows any minute now. Advertisement Will 'The Quarterback' triumph in New Jersey? Given the current status of play, he has to be a serious favorite this time around. If nothing else, the fact that the clock is ticking down on John Cena's retirement tour — according to the man himself, he has 15 dates left — makes a Rhodes victory more likely. Assuming, that is, the whole thing about Cena retiring as champion is a ploy to get heat rather than the genuine creative plan all along… There are other things in Cody's favor. As he's the one who is sticking around to carry the company, a defeat would likely inflict serious damage on his brand — particularly after he went through the effort of winning King of the Ring to earn the title shot. Then there's the fact that Cena has been presented as very much beatable. We saw Saturday night how CM Punk had the champion pinned to rights — albeit after a ref bump — suggesting, once again, that it's the dirty tricks that keep Cena on top. Advertisement Combine all of those factors and you can see why the widespread expectation is this year's SummerSlam will culminate in a reversal of what happened at WrestleMania 41. — i.e. 'The American Nightmare' getting his revenge over the dastardly trio of Cena, Travis Scott and The Rock, who conspired to screw him over in Las Vegas. (Who knows, perhaps the final member of that alliance will actually show up this time…) So where does that leave the Cena heel turn? In normal times, you'd assume it would be the moment to call time on the project. After all, if a babyface is at their most powerful during the chase, the heel is never weaker than when they finally get their just desserts. Whatever you might think of his work ethic, there's a reason that Roman Reigns took a break after losing his title at WrestleMania XL, for example. If this dark Cena had succeeded in getting some genuine heat from the fans in the first place, there might be some merit in having him sticking around to carry on the act. That way, the crowds could get some cathartic relief by jeering the downfall of his whole 'ruin wrestling' shtick. But we've seen time and again how the heel act has struggled to land in the first place: The crowds just don't buy it. Then there's the fact that WWE has seemingly been teasing that Cena might be regretting his heel turn (in kayfabe at least) for a while now. We saw that again last night when 'The Champ' thought twice about clobbering CM Punk with the WWE Universal Championship last night — suggesting, not for the first time, that he feels conflicted about some of these underhand tactics. Advertisement If it was a one-off, you could write it off as a coincidence. But given we had similar teases at WWE Backlash and Money in the Bank, too, you have to assume it's deliberate. As for how you actually execute the big change, your guess is as good as mine. Although given that the audiences have never really believed Cena as the soulless heel, WWE will presumably face much less resistance in turning him face than they did with more established bad guys like Roman Reigns or Brock Lesnar. Don't be surprised if Cena flips as quickly as he did back at Elimination Chamber. No matter how they get there, though, you sense they have to do it. With just 13 scheduled Cena appearances after SummerSlam — including three PLEs and a rumored Saturday Night's Main Event in Boston — WWE is running out of time to create those magic moments when you have a whole arena cheering their man to the rafters. In other words, the thing we all expected to see from the moment that Cena announced his retirement tour in the first place. After a tricky few months, you have to assume that remains the end-game. Forget about 'ruining wrestling' and retiring with the belt as 'the last true champion': The far bigger prize is to walk out with those crowds behind you. Surely even "The Final Boss" can see the wisdom in that?

Center Jaylin Williams Signs $24 Million Extension With Thunder

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA - APRIL 12: Jaylin Williams #6 of the Oklahoma City Thunder celebrates a ... More 3-point shot during the second half against the New Orleans Pelicans at the Smoothie King Center on April 12, 2023 in New Orleans, Louisiana. NOTE TO USER: User expressly acknowledges and agrees that, by downloading and or using this Photograph, user is consenting to the terms and conditions of the Getty Images License Agreement. (Photo by) The Oklahoma City Thunder just extended Jaylin Williams, their 6'8 backup center, to a three-year deal worth $24 million. To some, it seem like a lot for a player who is on the fringe of the rotation in the playoffs, but Williams - who turns 23 today - is both young, skilled, and quite underrated. Let's get into it. Effective player, who's buried on the bench Williams has a lot going for him. Not only is he a 39% shooter from three-point territory for his career, he's also a formidable passer at his size, and position. Williams gathered 120 assists in just 784 minutes this season, a frankly ridiculous number for a player who spent 74% of his minutes at center, and the rest at power forward. While triple-doubles have never been a reliable indicator of, well, anything, it is noteworthy that Williams gathered three of them this season, thus also showcasing his ability as a rebounder, of which he grabbed 5.6 per game in just 16.7 minutes. On a deal that will average $8 million per year, Williams becomes the perfect backup insurance for the Thunder, should Isaiah Hartenstein and/or Chet Holmgren miss time. The team drafted fellow big man Thomas Sorber out of Georgetown in the draft, at #15, but Williams should very much be able to play alongside him, due to his positional fluidity, and playmaking capabilities. Williams becomes very tradable down the line Should the Thunder eventually bump up against the second apron, and thus become too expensive to keep everyone around, Williams becomes an immediate trade candidate where the Thunder can expect a market for him. As the cap will continue to climb 10% every offseason, Williams' deal - which is already modest in value - is enormously easy to trade for, and the fact that the third season is a team option, no team would relinquish control of the deal. This contract is almost unrealistically team-friendly in both scale and structure. It's only sweetened by the fact that it's attached to a player who might even become a starting caliber player for some team within long. After winning the title, the Thunder are quietly doing very well in the early stages of the NBA offseason. Unless noted otherwise, all stats via PBPStats, Cleaning the Glass or Basketball-Reference.
