Statewide ‘Maha Smiles' Initiative to be Launched from Nagpur
Nagpur: A major state-level health initiative titled 'Maha Smiles – Cleft Awareness and Treatment Campaign' is set to launch from Nagpur on July 31, aiming to bring free surgical treatment and awareness for children born with cleft lips and palates, particularly in the underserved regions of Vidarbha. The initiative is being implemented in partnership with international NGO Smile Train India and Bajaj Finserv, under their corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts. It was initiated after chief minister Devendra Fadnavis appealed to corporate companies to work in this field. The campaign is not merely a medical drive but a transformative social movement expected to restore smiles and confidence to thousands of affected children. As part of the first phase, three specially equipped mobile vans will travel across all 11 districts of Vidarbha over the next 90 days, spreading awareness about cleft conditions, providing early diagnosis, and facilitating free registration for surgical intervention. Surgeries will be conducted at partner hospitals in Nagpur, Gondia, Akola, and Wardha. Sribhumi set for 24x7 clean tap water with Rs 81.18cr project boost
Silchar: In a major boost to Barak Valley's infrastructure, Assam's public health engineering minister Jayanta Mallabaruah on Sunday laid the foundation stone for a Rs 81.18 crore drinking water supply project in Sribhumi town under the Jal Jeevan Mission (Urban). The ceremony at the Langai water plant was marked by traditional bhoomi pujan rituals and attended by ministers Kaushik Rai and Krishnendu Paul, BJP district president Sanjeev Banik, and senior PHE officials. Addressing a gathering at the Sribhumi District Library auditorium, Mallabaruah reiterated the state govt's commitment to Barak Valley's development. He said CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has earmarked Rs 350-400 crore for drinking water projects across the region. "Hailakandi alone has received over Rs 100 crore. Projects for Lala and Badarpur are in the pipeline, and construction will begin soon," the minister said, adding that the AMRUT scheme in Silchar is also progressing. He emphasised that Sribhumi's current water treatment infrastructure — commissioned in 1967 for a population of merely 12,000 — is grossly outdated. "This project is designed to meet the needs of today's Sribhumi," he said. The system will include a 129-km distribution network and five elevated service reservoirs (ESRs), strategically placed to ensure efficient water flow across town. While the project's completion target is December 2028, Mallabaruah urged officials to expedite delivery. "Clean water means fewer hospital visits and a healthier, stronger community," he said.

Bandi Sanjay dares KTR for open debate on BJP MP Ramesh's allegations
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar has dared BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao for an open debate on the charges made against him by BJP MP from Anakapalli C.M. Ramesh accusing him of making a proposal to merge BRS with BJP in 2023. Talking to reporters in Karimnagar on Sunday, Mr. Sanjay alleged that the BRS rule was steeped in corruption. 'BRS leaders had come up with the merger proposal unable to run their party,' he said in reply to a question. However, during his speech at a public meeting in Nizamabad in 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made it crystal clear that BJP is against family-centric parties and politics of nepotism, he noted. 'Let him (KTR) decide the time and venue. I will arrange a public debate either in Karimnagar or Hyderabad to prove Mr. Ramesh's allegations against Mr. Rama Rao,' he said. 'BRS is on the verge of extinction and its leadership is incapable of running the party,' he charged, accusing Mr. Rama Rao of spearheading a false propaganda against the BJP through social media platforms. 'Such lies will not be tolerated anymore,' he warned, and alleged that the Congress leaders in Telangana were not reacting to KTR's 'abusive language' against their own leaders. Accusing the ruling Congress of 'pursuing appeasement politics', he demanded that 42% quota be exclusively earmarked for BCs by excluding Muslims from the BC list.
