MP govt to introduce new Bill on OBC reservation, says CM Mohan Yadav

Hans India13 hours ago
Bhopal: Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Saturday said that his government will soon introduce a new Bill on OBC reservation in the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
The Chief Minister reiterated that his government is committed to providing 27 per cent reservation to the OBC candidates in government services, and he has directed officials to prepare a Bill, which will be brought to the House for discussion.
Responding to the Congress' claim of delay in the implementation of 27 per cent reservation to the OBC community, the Chief Minister said that Congress had approved the Bill without any proper "survey" and "preparation".
"Congress misled the people on the OBC reservation issue. The Bill approved by the then Congress government was lacking proper preparation and a survey. The BJP government is committed to providing 27 per cent reservation to OBC people," CM Yadav said during a press conference.
Earlier in the day, state Congress chief Jitu Patwari, along with the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the state Assembly, Umang Singhar, blamed the BJP government for delaying the implementation of 27 per cent reservation to OBC.
The Chief Minister's statement came a day after the Supreme Court issued a notice to the Madhya Pradesh government over the continued delay in appointments to 13 per cent of government posts kept on hold under the 27 per cent OBC reservation policy.
The court has sought an explanation from the state for not filling these posts despite there being no legal stay on the enhanced OBC quota.
The Chief Secretary has been directed to submit an affidavit in the matter.
The notice was issued during a hearing on a petition filed by candidates affected by the hold on appointments.
The petitioners, under the banner of OBC Mahasabha, demanded that the government fill 13 per cent of posts, which have remained vacant for several years despite the policy for 27 per cent OBC reservation being introduced in 2019 by the then Baghel government.
The petitioners stated that although there is no stay from the Supreme Court on the implementation of 27 per cent reservation for OBCs, the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) has kept 13 per cent of posts on hold in various recruitment drives held in recent years.

AIADMK open to electoral ties with parties opposed to ruling DMK

CHENNAI: After Union minister Amit Shah's statement that the chief minister candidate will indeed be from the AIADMK, it is not right for anyone (in the BJP) to make contradictory statements, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami said on Saturday during the unveiling of the logo and jingle of the party's state-wide campaign 'Let's Protect the People, Let's Save Tamil Nadu' at the party headquarters. He was responding to a question from reporters on the resistance among a section of the BJP to the chief minister candidate being from the AIADMK. 'The decisions are made in Delhi,' Palaniswami said. Palaniswami said the party is happy to include those with similar objective of defeating the DMK in response to a question on whether the AIADMK would form an alliance. 'We are open to aligning with all parties that seek to oust the anti-people DMK regime. We would be happy to ally with anyone who shares this objective. They too must cooperate.'

Gopal Khemka murder: Rahul Gandhi slams Nitish Kumar, BJP over Patna businessman's murder, calls Bihar ‘India's crime capital'

NEW DELHI: Congress leader and leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi on Sunday hit out at the BJP-led NDA government and Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar over the murder of businessman Gopal Khemka, calling it proof that the state has turned into "India's crime capital". In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi said, 'The brazen murder of businessman Gopal Khemka in Patna has once again proven – the BJP and Nitish Kumar have together turned Bihar into India's crime capital. Today, Bihar lives in the shadow of loot, gunfire, and murder. Crime has become the 'new normal' here – and the government is utterly ineffective.' Appealing to voters, he added, 'Brothers and sisters of Bihar, this injustice can no longer be tolerated. A government that cannot ensure the safety of your children cannot be trusted with your future. Every murder, every robbery, every bullet – is a cry for change. Now is the time for a new Bihar – where there is progress, not fear. This time, your vote is not just to change the government, but to save Bihar.' Businessman Gopal Khemka was shot dead on July 4 around 11 pm near Gandhi Maidan in Patna. Superintendent of Police (SP) Patna, Diksha, confirmed the incident, stating, 'On the night of July 4, at around 11 pm, we received information that businessman Gopal Khemka has been shot dead in the south area of the Gandhi Maidan. The crime scene has been secured, and further investigation is underway. One bullet and one shell have been recovered. ' Director general of police (DGP) Vinay Kumar said a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe the case, and will be headed by the SP, City Central. The incident bears resemblance to the 2018 killing of Gopal's son, Gunjan Khemka, a BJP leader and then state convener of the party's small industries cell. Gunjan was shot dead at his cotton bandage factory in Hajipur. Following his murder, there was a reported lack of presence by top BJP leadership at the funeral, which left the family disappointed. Ram Khemka, uncle of the deceased, told TOI at the Gulbi Ghat crematorium, 'Gunjan used to spend 3–4 hours every day working for the BJP. Yet no senior leader or minister even raised their voice against his killing.' Only a few BJP MLAs, including Nitin Navin, Arun Kumar Sinha, and Sanjeev Chaurasia, were present at the funeral. Though state BJP president Nityanand Rai visited later, the family had by then decided not to take Gunjan's body to the party office for last rites. Reacting to the killing, RJD leader Mrityunjay Tiwari said, 'It is very sad. The government will have to answer as a businessman was killed in the posh area of Gandhi Maidan. The police reached after two hours. It happened near the police headquarters. Tejashwi Yadav has been showing the crime bulletin, but this government is sleeping. Bihar wants to get rid of this government now. It is a Gunda Raj, what else?'
