Bukit Aman, KL CID team up on deadly Brickfields, Cheras shootings, rope in Sarawak CID
KUALA LUMPUR, June 27 — The Bukit Aman and Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Departments (CID) are working together to hunt down suspects linked to two recent fatal shootings at Brickfields and Cheras here.
Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said investigations into both cases are currently ongoing, with the Sarawak CID assisting in checking the motive of the Cheras shooting.
'Photofits by witnesses at the scene of both the shootings cannot be done as the suspects in the (Cheras) case was wearing face masks and helmets (in the Brickfields shooting),' he added.
Two men riding a motorcycle had fired shots at a group of men at a restaurant Jalan Tun Sambanthan, Brickfields, killing one and injuring two at 10.50pm on June 13, while another man was killed in front of a convenience store at Jalan Loke Yew, Cheras on June 16. — Bernama

Skipper in deadly Perhentian capsize remanded 3 days over drug offence

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : The skipper of a boat that capsized in rough waters near Pulau Perhentian Besar on Saturday night has been remanded for three days until Wednesday in connection with a separate drug-related case. The 22-year-old tested positive for drugs following the accident, police said. He also has a record of five criminal offences. According to Berita Harian, magistrate Nurliyana Md Zukri issued the remand order at the Setiu magistrates' court under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug use. The boat, which was carrying 15 passengers aged between three and 40, was en route from Pulau Perhentian Kecil to Pulau Perhentian Besar when it capsized at around 10.30pm. Three people died at the scene: S Arumugam, 40, his three-year-old daughter Sarrvihka, and a 10-year-old relative, V Vennpani. A six-year-old child remains in critical condition and is being treated in the intensive care unit of Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu. Initial police investigations revealed that none of the passengers was wearing life jackets at the time of the incident.

5 students in MRSM bullying case out on bail

(Envato Elements pic) PETALING JAYA : Five students who were remanded by police over the bullying of another student at the Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) in Besut, Terengganu, were released today on police bail. Besut district police chief Azamuddin Ahmad said police have almost completed the investigation, and two more students will be released tomorrow, Berita Harian reported. 'The investigating officer will contact the families of the students involved on the next steps in the case,' he was quoted as saying. Azamuddin said police are now in the process of obtaining the students' school and medical records. 'We are also looking for witnesses to the incident to complete our investigation. The investigation paper will be referred to the deputy public prosecutor for further orders,' he said. Police had identified and detained five Form Three students on Thursday over their alleged involvement in the bullying of a Form Two student. On Friday, Mara chairman Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the students who bullied the 14-year-old student have been expelled from the MRSM, under his zero-tolerance policy on bullying cases. Yesterday, Azamuddin was reported to have said that police arrested two more students after they presented themselves at the Besut district police headquarters with their families. This brought the total number of students detained to seven, comprising six Form Three students and one Form Five student. Following the initial arrest of the five students, it was reported that the victim claimed he was forced to squat with slippers on his head for 40 minutes at about 11.30pm on Tuesday. The victim also alleged he was punched in the abdomen and slapped in the face by several Form Three students at the hostel.

The appointment, which takes effect on Tuesday, is for two years, from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2027. Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, in a statement, expressed confidence that Comm Shuhaily, 53, who has 26 years of experience in the police service, would be able to lead the AKPS with distinction. "This confidence is based on Comm Shuhaily's competence and extensive experience in various units in the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), both at national and international levels. "His leadership is also expected to further strengthen the country's border security and uphold a culture of integrity in line with the Madani values," he said. Comm Shuhaily graduated with a Bachelor of International Relations from the International Islamic University Malaysia and a Master of Science in Strategic Studies, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He previously served in Washington, United States, as a Police Attaché from 2010 to 2013. He was appointed as Bukit Aman CID director on Aug 15, 2023. Johor police chief Comm Datuk M. Kumar has been tapped to succeed Comm Mohd Shuhaily as CID director.- Bernama
