Azizah praises Norazlinah for standing up for women's rights

By: Noor Zafira Zayn Text Size: Azizah and Norazlinah Kota Kinabalu: Gagasan Rakyat Sabah Wanita Chief Datuk Seri Azizah Mohd Dun said every leader must champion the rights of the people, especially in defending women's dignity and interests. 'I commend Kunak Assemblywoman Datuk Norazlinah Arif for speaking up on women's rights, particularly on issues affecting their dignity. If women remain silent and fail to stand up for their honour, especially when it involves sensitivity and morality, who else will? 'Her actions should inspire other leaders, and all women, to boldly uphold our rights. People cannot just make inappropriate jokes without boundaries,' she told reporters during her Aidilfitri open house at her house, here, Saturday. She said this in reaction to a widely circulated social media clip of a State Legislative Assembly session, where Norazlinah expressed disappointment over being playfully punched by Merotai Assemblyman Sarifuddin Hata during a previous sitting. In the video, Norazlinah argued that such actions, even if meant as a joke, were unacceptable. The exchange also involved Lamag Assemblyman Datuk Bung Moktar Radin and Sarifuddin. Azizah said that women's participation in Sabah's governance under GRS proves the State Government takes their role seriously. 'We have achieved 30 per cent women's involvement across key positions, including Government Link Companies chairpersons and board directors. He said all public transport services including trains will continue operating as usual on the day. Loke stressed that the Madani government upholds the right to peaceful assembly, even for groups opposed to the administration. 'We must not return to an era that suppressed democracy to the point of shutting down Parliament,' he said. He added that public transport must keep running to ensure that the majority of Malaysians can carry out their weekend plans without disruption. Loke took the opportunity to remind Klang Valley users that the subsidised MY50 travel pass can now be renewed online via the Touch 'n Go app. He also highlighted the RM6 MyCity Pass, which offers unlimited daily travel on LRT, MRT, BRT, Monorail and Rapid Bus services, and will be digitised by year-end. The minister then repeated his call for all rally-goers to ride public transport and help ease traffic flow in the capital. Speaking at the launch of the party's 'Gasak 17 This Is the Time' Information Seminar on Friday, Hajiji called for clearer communication on Gagasan Rakyat's mission and the State Government's achievements. The seminar at the Sabah International Convention Centre marked the start of the three-day Gagasan Rakyat Annual Assembly. Hajiji said the party's information chiefs at all levels must now activate their networks to engage the public more effectively. He also highlighted the role of the party's Women, Youth and Beliawanis wings in ensuring messages reach communities across Sabah. Strong grassroots coordination, he said, would help reinforce public confidence in Gagasan Rakyat and the GRS-led government. Public transport to operate as usual tomorrow, says Loke

PETALING JAYA: Transport minister Loke Siew Fook says he has ordered all public transport, including Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) and Prasarana Malaysia Bhd's train stations, to operate as usual tomorrow. In a Facebook post, he said the Madani government 'defends freedom of assembly, including for those not aligned with the government'. 'We cannot return to the times when democracy was oppressed to the point that Parliament was shut down. 'More importantly, our public transport must continue to function so that the majority can carry out their weekend activities without being disturbed by the opposition's rally. 'I encourage all rally participants tomorrow to use public transport so that traffic congestion in the capital city can be minimised,' he said. A mass rally organised by Perikatan Nasional is expected to take place in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow to call for the resignation of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Earlier today, KTMB denied issuing orders for the closure of its Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and Kuala Lumpur stations, after a notice made the rounds on social media. When a netizen asked about the notice in the comment section of one of KTMB's Facebook posts, the firm said there had been no official announcement from the management.
