TN: Tiruvarur declared ‘Red Zone' ahead of CM Stalin's visit
The Tiruvarur District Police have declared all roads and streets through which the Chief Minister's convoy is expected to pass as 'red zone' areas, effectively restricting movement and activities in those zones for security reasons.
In a press release issued on Monday, District Collector V. Mohanachandran said the use of civil remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS) and drones has been strictly prohibited during the Chief Minister's visit.
The restrictions follow standard VVIP security protocols, given that Stalin's convoy will pass through multiple areas in the district.
As per the itinerary, Chief Minister Stalin will arrive in Tiruvarur from Chennai via Tiruchirappalli on the evening of July 9. He will first visit the Kalaignar Memorial at Kattur, located on the outskirts of Tiruvarur town, to pay homage to his late father and former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.
Following the memorial visit, Stalin will lead a roadshow in Tiruvarur town on the same night. The Chief Minister will stay overnight at his family residence in Tiruvarur.
On July 10, he is scheduled to participate in a function organised by the district administration where various welfare scheme benefits will be distributed to eligible beneficiaries. The programme will also showcase recent achievements of the DMK-led government in the region. This visit is part of Stalin's broader outreach campaign across Tamil Nadu, which has included recent stops in districts like Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, and Nagapattinam.
In each of these districts, he has launched new development projects, interacted with local communities, and overseen the disbursement of welfare assistance.
The Chief Minister's roadshows have been attracting large crowds, particularly in districts that hold political and sentimental value for the DMK. Tiruvarur, being Karunanidhi's birthplace and home turf of the DMK, holds special significance.
This visit is expected to further consolidate the party's grassroots presence ahead of key local body and assembly elections.
Police have urged the public to cooperate with the security arrangements and avoid using drones in the restricted zones during the two-day visit.

Truckers halt delivery under Anna Bhagya Scheme
Bengaluru: Karnataka truck owners have halted the transportation of rice provided for free distribution under the Anna Bhagya scheme by the Siddaramaiah government. Retail Transport Contractors' Association President Shanmugappa issued a statement on Monday, announcing that trucks stopped transporting rice from midnight on Sunday. 'Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar have failed to fulfil their promise of clearing transportation dues for trucks that carried rice across the state from February to June. The pending amount is Rs 250 crore,' he stated. 'Truck drivers and owners are going through a difficult phase. They are taking loans and facing the threat of losing their livelihood. Many are managing to continue operations by pledging their jewellery to purchase diesel and cover transport expenses,' Shanmugappa added. He further stated that finance companies which provided vehicle loans are now repossessing trucks, as the owners are unable to pay the EMIs. He slammed the government, stating that the Secretary of the Food Department had promised that payments would be made by June 19, but nothing has been done so far. The trucks have transported 25 lakh tonnes of rice to district and taluk centres across the state. Due to the state government's negligence, about 3,500 to 4,000 truck drivers are now in crisis, he said. As a result of this development, there will be delays in the distribution of free rice to beneficiaries. This situation is also expected to reignite debates over the Congress-led government's alleged struggle to generate sufficient funds. Under the Anna Bhagya scheme -- one of the Congress government's major guarantee schemes -- the state provides 10 kilograms of free rice per person for families falling under the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category. The state government claims it is distributing free rice to 4.42 crore individual beneficiaries from 1.19 crore BPL and Antyodaya card-holding families across Karnataka. Meanwhile, Karnataka BJP President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra stated on Monday that the Congress-led government in the state is attempting to gradually halt the free rice scheme. 'They had promised to provide 10 kilograms of free rice, including the 5 kilograms supplied by the Centre. Now, they are preparing to distribute Indira Kits instead of free rice. The objective is to save Rs 700 to Rs 800 crore. They are using the excuse that beneficiaries are reselling the free rice,' he alleged.

RS 10 cr bribe for waiving 100 cr loan, alleges Cong
Vijayawada: Senior Congress leader Chinta Mohan on Monday launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led Central government and the current state coalition government, alleging widespread corruption, flawed policies, and the dismantling of crucial welfare programmes. Addressing a press conference in Vijayawada, Mohan touched upon issues ranging from bank loan write-offs and rising fuel prices to the controversial Amaravati project and the alleged weakening of the MGNREGA scheme. He asserted that corruption has escalated tenfold under BJP rule, claiming that 'BJP leaders are swindling thousands of crores of rupees.' He accused the government of writing off lakhs of crores in bank loans, leading to massive illicit gains. 'To get a Rs 100 crore loan waiver, one has to pay Rs 10 crore as bribe,' he alleged, stating that this sentiment is widely prevalent in Delhi, where he recently conducted an extensive ground assessment. The former minister questioned the whereabouts of subsidies on crude oil, stating that India is receiving 60 per cent of its crude oil from Russia at subsidised rates. 'Despite this, petrol pumps are not dispensing fuel for less than Rs 100 per litre,' he observed, demanding an explanation from the central government regarding the utilisation of these subsidies. While clarifying that he is not against Amaravati, Mohan criticised the project's concept as 'a total failure.' He said that the CRDA acquired 30,000 acres, and 'if you dig an inch, you find water,' suggesting unsuitability for a capital. He also questioned the need for another international airport in Amaravati, just 30 km from the existing one in Vijayawada. Mohan strongly condemned the state coalition government for allegedly 'destroying' the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). He accused the government of diverting 90 per cent of MGNREGA funds, meant for labourers' wages, towards 'material charges,' leaving only 10 per cent for the workers. Regarding the Talliki Vandanam scheme, Mohan alleged that the government's distributed funds were ending up in 'brandy shops'. He demanded that funds for students' education be directly credited to schools and colleges. He also voiced strong opposition to the state government's reported plans to reduce the number of schools in Andhra Pradesh from 35,000 (established during Rajiv Gandhi's 1987 New Education Policy initiative) to 10,000.

Communal strife being fuelled under Cong rule, says BJP chief
Bengaluru: The BJP has alleged that a systematic conspiracy is underway to incite communal strife between two communities in the state. According to the party, anti-national elements are growing bolder with the Congress government's backing. Addressing reporters in Shivamogga on Monday, BJP state President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra said, 'Anti-national elements are becoming stronger in Karnataka, particularly in the coastal region. Forces that do not want peace and aim to create communal discord are ensuring that untoward incidents continue to occur.' 'The tragedy is that the state government is not taking this seriously. Whether it's the murder of Hindu activist Suhas Shetty, the Mysuru police station attack, or incidents of violence during Tipu Jayanti in our Shivamogga district -- trouble is recurring during festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi. These disruptive forces feel emboldened because they know they are protected by the state government,' he alleged. 'Due to the inaction of the government, these anti-national elements are becoming more daring. They believe that no one will hold them accountable because the government is on their side,' he added. 'There is a situation where the fence is eating the crop. In this background, such disturbing incidents are taking place. The BJP strongly condemns this. The Chief Minister and the Home Minister -- who is one only in name -- must pay attention to this situation,' Vijayendra said. Commenting on the recent spate of heart attack cases in Hassan district, he said, 'A series of heart attacks are being reported, especially among young people, and lives are being lost. Shockingly, the district's in-charge minister has not visited the area in the past three months. This is the height of irresponsibility. One does not need further evidence to see how callously the Congress-led government is running the state.' Turning to the state's financial condition, he said, 'The state's economy has collapsed. The Financial Advisor to the Chief Minister, Bavaraj Rayareddy, has stated that if people want roads and other development works, the government will have to stop the guarantee schemes.' 'When the BJP points out that the Congress-led government is struggling to pay salaries, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah claims that everything is fine,' Vijayendra said. 'But through Rayareddy, the Chief Minister has made it clear to the public that funds for development cannot be allocated unless the guarantee schemes are first delivered. This government has pushed the state into a financial crisis.' 'The people are tired of this government and are regretting bringing it to power. That is the reality. The damage caused is so deep that no Chief Minister will be able to easily fix Karnataka's economy,' he concluded.
