Listen to This 10-Liter V-8 Rev to the Moon on a Dyno

Motor 124-05-2025
Huge, big-block V-8 are usually reserved for drag racing. Anywhere else, they're overkill. One pro drifter thinks a proper big block is the way forward for the sport, so he's going all in on an enormous 10.3-liter V-8 for his
BMW M2
drift build. And it sounds incredible.
Adam LZ
published a video to his YouTube channel last week documenting the powertrain set to reside in his carbon-kevlar-bodied M2. He paid a visit to Steve Morris of Steve Morris Engines, learning about the build and getting a few clips of the engine on a dyno.
Morris is the go-to builder for reliable drag engines, so building this 10.3-liter motor for Adam was a piece of cake. It's loosely based on a Chevy's big-block platform, but basically everything, including the aluminum block, is new. There's a lightweight camshaft, RaceTech pistons, AFR heads, a billet oil pan, a dry-sump oiling system, a custom intake, and more.
The lightweight internals were important for Adam, as he wanted an engine that could rev quickly and reach a relatively high redline—the type of stuff you need for drifting. On the dyno, the engine is able to throw down a monstrous 1,125 horsepower and 931 pound-feet of torque at 7,000 rpm, all without the use of forced induction. There's no replacement for displacement, after all.
The most important part of this engine is the low-end torque. Whereas the turbo motors Adam is used to can't be lugged at low rpm, this engine will happily post huge torque numbers from idle. On the dyno, this engine was pushing over 700 lb-ft of torque at just 3,000 rpm. And if Adam needs some extra revs, this V-8 can rev out all the way to 8,000 rpm while maintaining most of its power.
Now all Adam needs to do is get the engine in his car.

2026 BMW M2 CS Sets a New Nürburgring Record for a Compact Car

The has set a new lap record for compact cars around the Nürburgring-Nordschleife circuit. The lap was piloted by BMW M development engineer Jörg Weidinger, who maneuvered the M2 CS to an official lap time of 7:25.534. Weidinger's new time is nearly eight seconds faster than the previous record holder and more than 13 seconds faster than the previous best M2. Lap records at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife circuit can be fleeting, but that doesn't make them any less impressive. The 2026 BMW M2 CS not only set a new lap record for compact cars around the famous German circuit but also demolished the previous record by nearly eight seconds. BMW M development engineer Jörg Weidinger piloted the M2 CS to a time of 7:25.534, making it both the first M2 and the first compact car under the 7:30 mark. Weidinger's lap is nearly eight seconds faster than the 7:33.123 set by the Audi RS3, which formerly held the class record. It's also more than 13 seconds faster than the previous best time for an M2, with Weidinger setting a lap time of 7:38.706 in a standard M2 in 2023. Perhaps more impressive than either of those metrics, the new M2 CS's time is three seconds faster than the M3 CS's time set in 2023, despite being down 20 horsepower. The base M2 is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six and makes 473 horsepower. Torque figures for the standard car are split based on transmission, with three-pedal cars rated at 406 pound-feet and two-pedal cars at 443 pound-feet. The M2 CS has significantly more gusto. While it uses the same engine, the CS is rated at 523 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent exclusively to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. It's not just brawnier, the M2 CS is leaner than the base car too. Between the aluminum wheels, carbon buckets, and various other carbon bits and bobs, the CS is nearly 100 pounds lighter than the standard car. Michigan road construction takes a break for Fourth of July weekend

Road officials from Oakland County and the state of Michigan have announced they are suspending construction work for the Fourth of July holiday weekend. This is expected to be a record holiday travel weekend in Michigan, with AAA estimating more than 2 million Michiganders will travel 50 miles or more. The intention for suspending work in the road construction zones is to provide safer, less congested travel during the peak traffic times. "Across Michigan, we are moving dirt and fixing the damn roads to grow our economy, helping Michiganders go to work, drop their kids off at school and run errands safely," said Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in a statement. Oakland County road construction The Road Commission of Oakland County said it is halting projects on July 3 and will resume on July 7 in most of its work zones. However, the following roads and bridges in Oakland County will remain closed: · Dequindre Road, 23 Mile Road to 24 Mile Road/Parkdale Road on the Rochester, Rochester Hills and Shelby Township border. · Kent Lake Road/Silver Lake Road intersection. · Martindale Road bridge over the Novi-Lyon Drain between Pontiac Trail and 12 Mile Road in Lyon Township. · Spaulding Road bridge over the Novi-Lyon Drain, just north of 11 Mile Road in Lyon Township. · 12 Mile Road, Inkster Road to Autumn Ridge Road (just east of Middlebelt Road) in the Farmington Hills border. Michigan highway construction The Michigan Department of Transportation is removing lane restrictions on 110 road projects out of 179 that are currently active, with some needing to stay closed for safety reasons. Roads in the Upper Peninsula, Northern Lower Peninsula, West Michigan, Southwest Michigan, Central Michigan and the Thumb, Southern Michigan, and Metro Detroit are set to reopen for a short period of time. State crews then plan to resume construction on July 7. For the latest information regarding MDOT construction and lane closures, go to the MI Drive website.
