Corruption in Rampur Bharapur panchayat area of Sirmaur: BJP seeks probe
As per the information, tonnes of construction material, including cement, gravel, and sand, in Rampur Bharapur panchayat in Paonta Sahib, was shown to have been transported on a two-wheeler.
Verma, while addressing the mediapersons, alleged the involvement of a Congress leader in the reported corruption. He claimed that even small vehicles were shown to have transported the construction material in Rampur Bharapur panchayat.
Also, fake bills were made, and payments were made from the govt treasury to the contractor's account, he added.
The BJP legislator further said, as per the information sought under the RTI Act, 17.80 metric tonnes of sand and gravel were transported in two trips on a motorcycle, and eight metric tonnes of sand and gravel were transported in two trips on another motorcycle. Also, 21.70 metric tonnes of gravel were transported in a 945 kg capacity vehicle.

Wanaparthy police arrest constable-turned-builder on loan fraud charge
A police constable-turned-builder accused of duping his own department's Bharatha scheme and multiple banks to the tune of Rs. 2.61 crore was arrested by the Wanaparthy police on Tuesday. The 37-year-old accused Bandaru Rakesh, who joined back to duty after a long leave of nearly nine years, fabricated documents to secure multiple loans from three houses, Wanaparthy Superintendent of Police Ravula Giridhar said at a press conference. He got selected as Armed Reserve constable in 2007 and got converted his service into Civil a couple of years later. Using the connection while serving as a civil constable, he entered real estate business and created his own venture of houses. He first sold one of the houses in his venture to his aide Sunkari Shekhar. He created fake documents stating that he had purchased the house from Shekhar and availed home loan from police department's Bhadratha scheme. 'Using the same details, he fabricated documents and secured home loans from Indian Overseas Bank, HDFC and LIC,' the SP said. With this modus operandi, he collected Rs. 89 lakh in the form of multiple bank loans. In the same fashion, he availed multiple home loans from different banks. The accused spent most of the money he had earned for his lavish lifestyle and ended up behind the bars, Mr. Giridhar said.

Transport workers' stir triggers political slugfest between CM and LoP in Karnataka
The Tuesday protest by the public transport employees triggered a slugfest between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Leader of the Opposition (LoP) R. Ashok, with the latter blaming the former for the situation. The Chief Minister launched a counterattack, blaming Mr. Ashok, who earlier handled the transport portfolio in the erstwhile BJP government, for failing to resolve the problems of transport workers back then. It all began with Mr. Ashok blaming the 'misrule' of the Chief Minister and the State's 'financial bankruptcy' as the reasons for the transport workers going on a strike, and demanding the Chief Minister's resignation. 'Save Karnataka and allow Kannadigas to live in peace by tendering resignation to your post,' Mr. Ashok said in a social media post. This Chief Minister shot back, saying it was when Mr. Ashok was the Transport Minister that the transport staff had gone on a 15-day strike as they were not being paid their salaries fully then. Unlike the Congress government that had implemented a pay hike with retrospective effect, the erstwhile BJP government had resorted to prospective revision for them, he said. He further alleged that the recruitment of staff and purchase of new buses had been stopped during the BJP rule, while a financial burden of ₹5,900 crore towards various expenses, including pending diesel bills, had been passed on to the next government. However, the Congress that came to power had appointed 10,000 staff and included 5,200 new buses to the fleet, he said. He alleged that the BJP dispensation had borrowed ₹2,000 crore to pay for diesel bills and Provident Fund of the staff, but left the loan repayment to the Congress government. Mr. Siddaramaiah urged Mr. Ashok to remember the 'injustice' done by the BJP dispensation to transport workers before pointing an accusing finger at the Congress government.
