Mumbai Metro 3 services from BKC to Worli begin
Earlier, Mumbai Metro Line 3, also known as Aqua Line, was only operational in the suburban stretch between JVLR Aarey and BKC, which was thrown open last year.
Mumbai Metro line-1 (Ghatkopar-Andheri-Versova), Metro Line 2A (Dahisar East-Andheri West ) and Metro Line 7 (Andheri East-Dahisar East) are operational in suburban areas.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday (May 9, 2025) flagged off the phase 2A stretch between BKC and Acharya Atre Chowk in Worli and announced that the final phase of the Metro Line 3 between Worli and Cuffe Parade in south Mumbai will become operational in August.
A spokesperson of Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRC) said the operations began at 6.30 a.m., and the first train departed from Worli Naka station, while another train departed from JVLR Aarey at the same time.
He said the services will be operational from 6.30 am to 10.30 pm, except on Sunday, when trains will run from 8.30 a.m. to 10.30 p.m.
One of the passengers who travelled in the morning from Shitaladevi station to Siddhivinayak Temple station posted on social media that there were hardly any commuters, as most people were unaware of extended operations.
Phase 2A is 9.77 km long, and its tunnel has been built through the 'rockbed' underneath the Mithi River, officials said.
It has six stations, including Dharavi, Shitaladevi, Dadar West, Siddhivinayak, Worli, and Acharya Atre Chowk.
The underground corridor will provide metro connectivity to offices in the Worli, Lower Parel, and Prabhadevi areas from BKC, the biggest business hub in the city.
It will also ease the commute to Siddhivinayak and Shitaladevi temples, Mahim Dargah, and recreational places such as Shivaji Park and Ravindra Natya Mandir.
As per the MMRC, the minimum fare will be ₹10, and the maximum fare will be ₹40 for the journey in phase 2A of the underground corridor.
For the travel between JVRL Aarey and Acharya Atre Chowk, passengers will have to shell out ₹60.
MMRC has planned 244 services on the corridor with eight Metro trains, and the travel time between BKC and Acharya Atre Chowk will be 15-20 minutes, while that between JVRL Aarey and Acharya Atre Chowk will be 36 minutes.
The headway between two trains will be 6 minutes and 20 seconds.

Navi Mumbai: NMI Boarding Passes Start This September, Check Which Airlines Are Onboard
Last Updated: Spread across 1,160 hectares, NMIA boasts two parallel runways spaced 1.55 km apart, with top-tier infrastructure already in place for Phase 1 and 2 operations. By the end of September, travellers will be handed boarding passes marked with a brand-new airport code: NMI — standing for Navi Mumbai International Airport. After years of anticipation, Mumbai's second international airport is preparing to welcome its first wave of passengers. Located in Ulwe, the airport is set to ease the load off Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), which is bursting at the seams handling over 50 million passengers a year. When Will Flights Begin? As per Hindustan Times, domestic flights from NMIA are likely to begin post-monsoon, with international services scheduled for mid-2026. According to Maharashtra's Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the first flight will take off by September 30. Which Airlines Are Coming Onboard? Major Indian carriers are lining up to operate from the airport. Initial operations will see 8–10 aircraft movements per hour, which will gradually scale up to 30 by mid-2026. The twin parallel runways can eventually handle 45 movements per hour. How Easy Is It to Get There? The airport boasts world-class multi-modal connectivity, including road, rail, metro, and even sea routes. The Atal Setu bridge has already reduced travel time from South Mumbai to just 40 minutes. Thane and Pune will also be accessible within 1–2 hours, making NMIA a convenient option for flyers across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Built at a cost of Rs 16,700 crore, NMIA is India's most advanced greenfield airport, second only in size to Delhi's IGI Airport. It will initially cater to 20 million passengers, with a vision to scale up to 90 million by 2040. view comments First Published: July 21, 2025, 16:08 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Breakthrough achieved in Mumbai Metro Line 7A: 61% work completed, tunnel linking Andheri and airport reaches major milestone
MUMBAI: The Mumbai Metro Line 7A project has hit a major milestone with the successful completion of a 1.65-km tunnel connecting Andheri (East) and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA). On July 14, 2025, the tunnel boring machine (TBM) T-60 achieved the breakthrough, marking significant progress in this critical infrastructure project. Executed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), tunneling began on September 1, 2023, with the TBM drive starting on November 4, 2023. The tunnel, with a finished diameter of 5.6 meters, was built using 1,178 rings — each 1.4 meters in length and made up of 6 segments. The depth of the tunnel ranges from 12 to 28 meters. The overall Metro Line 7A corridor spans 3.4 km, with a 2.5 km underground section. It includes two underground stations — Airport Colony and T2 Airport — and is designed as a partially elevated and partially underground alignment. The project, targeted for completion in 2026, has now reached 61% completion. Key engineering challenges tackled include construction under the Sahar Elevated Road, an overpass above Metro Line 3, diversion of a major sewer line, and crossing an underground water pipeline. Metro Line 7A will eventually integrate with Metro Lines 2A, 7, 9, and 3, strengthening Mumbai's metro network and easing travel across the city.

Last tunnel of Mumbai Metro's Line 7A, important connectivity link to airport, completed: MMRDA
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) completed the work on the second and last tunnel of Mumbai Metro's Line 7A corridor between Andheri East and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on Monday. The tunnel-boring machine Dhruv was deployed for the work and the entire tunnelling on the underground section of the corridor is now complete, officials said. The 1.65-km upline tunnel of a diameter of 5.6 m was built with 1,178 tunnel-lining rings of 1.4 m. Precast ring segments in six pieces were used as liners. The driving of the tunnel started on November 4, 2023, and drove under critical infrastructure items such as Metro Line 3, the Sahar Elevated Road ramp, a principal underground sewer pipeline, and a water pipe. Line 7A, which is 3.17 km long, runs from Andheri East to CSMIA's Terminal 2. It has elevated and underground portions. The line will have two stations–Airport Colony and CSIA Terminal 2–and will be configured to link with the running Metro Line 3 (Aqua Line) and, later on, Metro Line 8 (Gold Line), which will be connected to Navi Mumbai International Airport. So far, 61 per cent of the total alignment of Line 7A has been completed, according to officials. The work is being undertaken by J Kumar Infraprojects Limited, which was given the project contract by the MMRDA in September 2019. The Rs 1,998-crore contract involves the construction of a viaduct, ramp, underground tunnels and metro stations. The same company used Dhruv in the Metro Line 3 project from 2018 to 2021. Metro Line 7A is a part of an extension of Metro Line 9, also called Red Line, which has an estimated cost of Rs 6,518 crore. Line 7A is said to enhance connectivity to the airport.
