It took just one season with the Philadelphia Eagles for Saquon Barkley to reach greater heights. While Jameis Winston was with the Cleveland Browns, he happily watched the MVP-caliber back from afar, proud to see him land and hit the ground running with his new team.
"I'm grateful that Saquon is getting his flowers," Winston said recently, on 'The Pivot.'
"He is showing the world what type of dynamic back he is."
Now with the team that let him go, Winston's statement is ironic, but the truth is what it is.
"Saquon had a team that didn't believe in him," he added. "I'm grateful to be with that team, but he had a team that didn't believe in the type of player that he is. He used that to fuel his fire."

Saquon Barkley #26 of the New York Giants takes the field before kickoff against the Philadelphia Eagles at MetLife Stadium on January 7, 2024 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The world witnessed the Giants fumble in the Barkley negotiations last year. While they wanted him back, they were unwilling to meet his price. The Giants suggested Barkley should hit the open market. Not only did the star back leave—but he took his talents to the Eagles—a direct rival of the Giants.
Being that Winston hasn't suited up for the Giants in a game setting just yet, it doesn't come as a surprise that he's not as affected by the Giants' decision to allow Barkley to walk, just to see him nearly break an NFL rushing record while winning a Super Bowl.
The veteran quarterback is simply enjoying the fact that Barkley silenced his critics.
"Saquon is too shifty, he doesn't run down, he doesn't run in between the tackles, he dodges tackles and stuff," Winston said, mimicking previous narratives about Barkley. "They were like, 'Oh, you're not going to be a player, a finesse back isn't gonna be able to make it like that.' [He's] beating the odds."
After getting picked second overall in 2018 out of Penn State, Barkley had plenty of great flashes on the Giants. Throughout his first two seasons, he exceeded 1,000 rushing yards and even led the NFL in scrimmage yards during his rookie year.
An injury in 2020 prevented Barkley from playing in more than two games. When he returned for a 13-game stretch in 2021, Barkley posted his lowest total outside of 2020, with just 593 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
There was a bounce-back in 2022, when Barkley ran for over 1,300 yards and 10 touchdowns in 16 games, but his 14-game run in 2023 finished with 962 yards and six touchdowns.
Barkley landed a three-year deal with the Eagles, worth nearly $40 million. After just one season with the Eagles, he was extended two more years, adding $41-plus million more to his upcoming earnings.
Winston is right, the Giants didn't value Barkley enough. Maybe they see it now, but it's too late. Barkley found the right situation for him as a running back and as a player in general. The Giants are now working to build their offense back up after making some big changes last year.

NFL insider hints that Buffalo Bills, James Cook extension is almost done

NFL insider hints that Buffalo Bills, James Cook extension is almost done originally appeared on The Sporting News The Buffalo Bills are gearing up for their first preseason game this Saturday against the New York Giants, but will continue to practice without star running back James Cook. Cook began his hold-in earlier this week, saying it was about "business." And while many fans are over the entire saga, one NFL insider provides some optimism to the situation. Per Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Bills and Cook don't appear to be far apart in terms of a deal, and this hold-in is more or less being used to get the deal finalized. "I don't get the sense the gap in negotiations between James Cook and the Bills is as large as other notable hold-ins around the league," Russini posted on X. "Cook's decision to sit out Bills practices is designed to get this deal across the finish line. We'll see if the two sides can come to an agreement." Should this be the case, it sounds as if a long-term deal could be announced soon for Cook and the Bills. Inside former NFL player LeShon Johnson's ‘nice and nasty' dog fighting ring

Ex-NFL player LeShon Johnson's dog-fighting ring is believed to be the largest-ever seizure of dogs in a federal case, according to the Justice Department, and the former Giants running back allegedly described the dog bloodline he cultivated as 'nice and nasty.' Johnson was found guilty last week of violating the federal Animal Welfare Act's prohibitions against possessing, selling, transporting and delivering animals to be used in fighting ventures by a federal judge in Oklahoma. The jury found Johnson guilty on six of 23 counts. 3 LeShon Johnson with the Giants on Nov. 14, 1999. New York Post An electronic device seized from Johnson allegedly includes images of a dog on a treadmill and photos of dead and maimed dogs, The Oklahoman reported on March 29. Johnson made his alleged 'nice and nasty' comment in a since-obtained phone conversation with a government informant, according to the paper. The authorities seized 190 'pit bull-type dogs,' which federal law enforcement said were used in an 'animal-fighting venture,' from Johnson's residence and 'off-site yard' in Oklahoma last October. The Oklahoman also reported that a spreadsheet includes digital financial records through Cash App that allegedly show transactions for 'fighting dogs,' with some interstate and others international. 3 Federal prosecutors have charged former NFL player LeShon Johnson with operating a large-scale dog-fighting ring. KWTV In the trial, prosecutors offered evidence that Johnson bred and trafficked dogs for the intention of fighting through his 'Mal Kant Kennels' operation. Johnson claimed that Mal Kent Kennels was a legitimate breeding business, but prosecutors argued that Johnson knew he was raising dogs that would be used in dog fights. The business produced $400,000 in sales over a four-year span leading up to Johnson's arrest, according to the Tulsa World. 3 The pit bulls that were owned by LeShon Johnson are being kept in a section of the Tulsa Animal Shelter. Tulsa World Johnson pleaded guilty to animal fighting charges in Oklahoma District Court in 2004 and was granted a five-year deferred sentence, long before his latest charge. A third round selection of Green Bay in the 1994 draft, Johnson played five NFL seasons between the Packers, Cardinals and Giants, who he played for in 1999.
