Trump announces trade deal with Japan
Japan was the United States' fifth-largest trading partner in 2024, making it by far the biggest trade deal the Trump administration has reached so far — not counting the temporary tariff truce they reached with China this past spring. A spokesperson for the Japanese Embassy did not immediately confirm the terms of the agreement outlined by Trump. U.S. imports from Japan totaled $148 billion last year, including about $58 billion worth of autos, auto parts and other automotive products. Japanese goods currently face a 10 percent U.S. tariff, but it was set to rise to 25 percent on Aug. 1. Trump did not say whether the Japanese would receive relief on Trump's separate 25 percent tariff on cars and car parts, an issue that has been a major sticking point in trade talks. The Japanese auto industry, lead by companies like Toyota, Subaru and Honda, is taking a significant financial blow on its exports to the U.S. as a result of the tariffs, which went into effect at the beginning of April. The Japanese government did not immediately issue a statement regarding the deal, but Japanese trade minister Ryosei Akazawa is in the U.S. and met with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick in recent days. The Trump administration has pledged that it will make a handful of deals before the Aug. 1 deadline it has set to impose tariffs between 10 and 50 percent on more than 50 U.S. trading partners.

Tesla's Massive Elon Musk Problem Is Not Going Away
Tesla CEO Elon Musk (Photo by Patrick Pleul / POOL / AFP) (Photo by PATRICK PLEUL/POOL/AFP via Getty ... More Images) Tesla's reputation crisis is deepening, according to a new report from EV Intelligence that says Tesla now has the lowest net positive perception among all EV brands and the highest distrust score. In fact, 37% of consumers say their perception of Tesla has become more negative in the past 6 months, while only 9% say it has improved. 'Tesla registers the lowest net positive perception among all surveyed EV brands,' the report states. "Furthermore, it exhibits the highest total distrust (48%) and the lowest trust intensity score (-19) among all brands, indicating significant challenges in public trust and brand favorability." Robotaxi doesn't look like it's going to save Tesla any time soon, either. Just 3% of consumers have heard about Tesla's self-driving taxi in depth, and those that are told about it are generally less interested in using a Tesla robotaxi and less convinced of their safety. In fact, 53% of the 8,000 U.S. consumers surveyed say that robotaxis should be illegal, and 55% of them say Tesla's Full Self-Driving technology specifically should be illegal. Competitors like Toyota and Honda–not traditionally known as self-driving leaders or electric vehicle leaders–led consumer trust and appeal metrics for safety, brand perception, and family-friendliness, according to the report. Toyota has the highest net positive perception, closely followed by Honda. Toyota and Honda lead in EV brand perception, while Tesla is the lowest. Tesla's fall from grace can hardly be overstated. Tesla has been the primary innovator in electric vehicles globally, and as recently as March of 2025, 'consumer sentiment toward Tesla was overwhelmingly positive,' according to a brand activation company, Inspira. Now, Tesla is the most rejected EV brand in America for potential EV buyers, with 50% of consumers saying they'd never consider a Cybertruck, for example, and 32-33% saying they won't even consider other Tesla models such as the Model 3 or Model Y. Tesla's brand perception scores have hit rock bottom The only other all-American startup EV company on the list, Rivian, has good brand positivity scores among people who have heard about the brand. But it lacks brand awareness with 63% of people not having heard of Rivian. American brands near the top include Chevrolet, Ford, and Cadillac. Musk has stepped away from the U.S. government and DOGE, of course, and has criticized President Trump on his handling of the Epstein issue, for example. But it's possible that these steps won't bring back the more liberal or left-leaning segment of potential EV buyers, and will just annoy the more right-leaning or MAGA potential customer. Starting up a new political party, the America Party, probably won't help. Tesla stock has dipped as sales slump and investors have grown tired of his political activity.

Honda, Acura EVs Can Now Charge at Tesla Superchargers via Adapter
Table of Contents Honda, Acura EVs Can Now Charge at Tesla Superchargers via Adapter Good news, owners of the Honda Prologue EV or Acura ZDX: You now have more than 23,500 more places to charge on your next road trip. Honda has unlocked access to the Tesla Supercharger fast-charging network for the two electric SUVs and is now offering a Honda-approved adapter for connecting to any North American Charging System (NACS) DC fast-charging point. Pioneered by EV giant Tesla before being opened to the rest of the North American automotive industry in 2023, the NACS standard and charging connection has been rapidly adopted by nearly every automaker that sells or plans to sell electric cars in North America. Honda declared two years ago that it would be adopting NACS for its EVs starting in 2025, and today we see the fruits of that announcement. Read more: Best Electric Cars and SUVs for 2025 (and Beyond!) Designed and developed largely before the mass-adoption of NACS in the US, both the Honda Prologue EV and the Acura ZDX EV charge via the Combined Charging System (CCS) connection. To connect to a Tesla Supercharger or other NACS DC fast-charging station, Honda is now selling an OEM-approved NACS-CCS adapter at authorized dealerships in the US and on the web at its Acura and Honda DreamShop online retailer. The adapter, which connects between the charging station and the EV, retails for $225. Enlarge Image The Honda-approved adapter connects to the NACS cable and plugs into the EV's CCS port. Honda Third-party NACS-to-CCS adapters have existed for some time now, many of which are less expensive. However, Honda warns that damage to a vehicle caused by an unapproved adapter may void your EV's limited warranty. In addition to the new charging hardware, the Google dashboard software that's built into Prologue and ZDX EVs is also being updated to find and navigate to authorized Tesla Supercharger locations when people are searching for charging on the go. Owners will still need to install the Tesla Supercharger app on their smartphone to connect and pay upon arrival, but the automaker tells us that more seamless plug-and-charge capabilities are currently "under development."

The 2026 Acura Integra Doesn't Fix What Isn't Broken
There wasn't much not to like about the Acura Integra . It's a practical, efficient hatchback that feels a step above the Honda Civic it's based on, yet more fun and more affordable than the luxury compacts it's up against. Acura would do well to leave well enough alone, and that's what it did for the 2026 Integra. There are a couple tweaks here and there, but fundamentally, this is the Integra we've grown fond of. The biggest upgrade is a new 9.0-inch center infotainment display replacing the older 7.0-inch unit. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring are now standard, too, as is a wireless phone charger, all of which used to be only available on the top-trim A-Spec Technology Package. A gamechanger? Hardly, but nice features that bring the Integra in line with its new crossover sibling, the ADX . Photo by: Acura Inside, the Integra also gets new blue suede inserts for the light Orchid interior trim, and A-Spec models get more ambient lighting and different dash trim. Otherwise, it's much the same, which is a good thing as Acura's European rivals all have been cost-cutting like mad. For exterior changes, the A-Spec trims get a larger splitter, new side skirts, and a new 18-inch wheel design. Additionally, there are three new colors, Solar Silver Metallic, Urban Gray Metallic, and Double Apex Blue Pearl. If you opt for a red or blue Integra A-Spec, you now get a color-matched grille with a black grille available as an accessory; on the flip side, gray and white Integras can also get a color-matched grille as an option. Photo by: Acura Mechanically, the Integra is unchanged. That means you get a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 200 horsepower and 192 pound-feet of torque paired with a continuously-variable transmission. You can get a six-speed manual with the A-Spec Technology package, which also adds adaptive dampers and a limited-slip differential to the mix. If you're able to drive a stick, you should definitely get the six-speed. It's excellent. Acura hasn't announced pricing yet, but hopefully, the 2026 model year won't be too much pricier than the 2025, which starts at $34,195 and climbs up to $39,195 for the A-Spec Technology. The brand is quick to point out that the Integra is built in Honda's Marysville, Ohio plant. So, the vehicle itself isn't exposed to an import tariff, though presumably, at least some of its parts are. We'll see closer to the 2026 Integra's on-sale date. Honda and Acura EV owners gain access to Tesla Supercharger network
Honda and Acura EV owners can now take advantage of the sprawling Tesla Supercharger network with the release of the first Honda-approved NACS -CCS DC fast-charging adapter. This means that Honda Prologue and Acura ZDX owners can join the growing ranks of non-Tesla EVs that you might see filling up at any one of the more than 23,500 selected Tesla Superchargers. "Combined with other growing charging networks, Honda and Acura EV drivers now have added peace of mind with a wider range of dependable DC fast charging options nationwide," said Ryan Harty, assistant vice president of Sustainability and Business Development at American Honda Motor Company. While Honda and its subsidiary brand Acura only have one fully-electric model each at the moment, this lays the groundwork for future models to use the Supercharger network. Prologue and ZDX drivers will now see Tesla Superchargers marked on their built-in Google Maps for easier navigation. Once they arrive, drivers will use the Tesla app to begin charging. Integration with HondaLink and Acura EV apps that will allow plug and charge capability are currently under development, according to Honda. Customers can now buy the Honda-approved adapter from their authorized Honda and Acura dealership in the US or online . The adapter will retail for $225.
