Two more Besut MRSM students remanded over alleged dorm bullying
KUALA LUMPUR, June 28 — Two more students from the Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) in Besut, Kuala Terengganu have been remanded for three days to assist investigations into an alleged bullying incident at the school.
According to Utusan Malaysia, the remand order, which runs until Monday, was issued by Assistant Senior Registrar Yuhanis Mohd Roslan at the Magistrates' Court in Kuala Terengganu to allow police to investigate the case under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.
Besut police chief Superintendent Azamuddin Ahmad @ Abu said the two 15-year-old students were detained at about 4pm yesterday when they turned up with their families at the Besut District Police Headquarters.
So far, two Form Two students have come forward claiming they were assaulted by a group of older students in an incident at the school dormitory around 11.30pm on June 24.
According to police, the first victim was allegedly forced into a semi-squatting position with slippers placed on his head for about 40 minutes. He was also punched in the stomach and slapped, resulting in pain to his abdomen and right ribs, along with bruising on his back.
The second victim reportedly sustained injuries to both legs.
Yesterday, five other students aged 15 to 17 were also remanded until tomorrow in connection with the case.

Acryl Sani and M Kumar had previously denied appearing in separate viral videos circulating on social media, which showed individuals resembling both of them allegedly receiving aid from a person bearing the title 'Datuk'. He said in response to this matter, his ministry is actively conducting awareness campaigns through the Digital Malaysia Tour programme to engage and educate the public, especially in rural areas, so that they do not fall victim to AI-related fraud. 'I have gone to Sabah, the interior of Kapit in Sarawak, and Penang to raise awareness among rural communities about the latest tactics and modus operandi of these criminals,' he said. Telegram didn't comply with many content removal requests, says Fahmi
Communications minister Fahmi Fadzil said MCMC had flagged 1,188,528 pieces of harmful content across social media platforms as of June 24. KUALA LUMPUR : Telegram failed to comply with many of the requests made by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to remove harmful content on the platform, says communications minister Fahmi Fadzil. Among all social media platforms, he said, Telegram has the lowest rate of compliance – less than 50% – to MCMC's requests to remove content. 'I have ordered MCMC to call Telegram for a meeting next week to discuss the issue,' he told reporters following an event at Pantai Dalam this morning. On June 19, MCMC filed a civil suit against Telegram and two of its channels for allegedly spreading harmful content that could erode trust in public institutions and threaten social order. MCMC said the two channels – 'Edisi Siasat' and 'Edisi Khas' – were found to have published content that violated provisions under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (CMA). 'This marks the first such action taken against a social media platform provider, particularly since Telegram holds an application service provider (class) licence. 'The move follows Telegram's serious failure to address content that has been repeatedly reported to it, despite multiple negotiation and cooperation efforts by MCMC,' it said. Fahmi said that as of June 24, MCMC had flagged 1,188,528 pieces of harmful content across various social media platforms. However, only 173,642 of those requests were complied with. 'Of this number, 51% of the content removed were online gambling ads, while 24% were online scams. 'We will take strict action to ensure Malaysians do not become victims of cybercrime,' he said. He said MCMC can only make requests, but the platforms themselves have to do what is necessary to ensure the content cannot be accessed in the country.

Too early to tell: Perak forensics narrow probe into Hutan Melintang fire that gutted 23 homes, shops, and house of worship
BAGAN DATUK, June 28 — The Perak Social Welfare Department (JKM) and the village chief's office have conducted an immediate census to provide aid to the victims of the Hutan Melintang fire. District Disaster Management Committee chairman Nazrul Fazami Mohamad said that relevant departments and agencies have been mobilised to conduct a quick census of the affected victims. 'JKM and the village chief's office have begun the census to complete the documentation procedures in a timely manner. 'We have also requested all victims to lodge police reports so that state-level disaster aid can be channelled through the Bagan Datuk District and Land Office,' he said when visiting the victims and the incident site today. In the 4.30 am incident, 23 properties in Bagan Pasir Laut near here were razed. This included 19 Class B and C houses, each approximately 92.9 square metres in size, a non-Muslim house of worship, two eateries, and a sundry shop. No casualties were reported. Nazrul Fazami said that no relief centre (PPS) has been opened, as all victims are reportedly staying with their relatives nearby. 'A meeting with representatives of the residents found that all victims currently have temporary shelter, so there is no need to open a PPS at this time. 'However, further discussions will be held from time to time to assess the need to open a PPS should the situation arise,' he said. Meanwhile, Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director of operations Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said it was still too early to determine the cause of the fire. He said JBPM's forensic team is still investigating to determine the actual cause of the incident.
